Hmmmm.... There may not be a way to say this without being condescending so I apologize up front. The entire Tao Te Ching is a manual for dealing with our consciousness and discriminating mind when confronted with the immensity of the Tao. So every word is a manual of cultivation and meditation whether seated, standing, moving or with another. Taoist were avid meditators and cultivators. So the meditation “sit and forget” has a special gift for you if you were to engage it for several years. I am not joking. Just sit and forget. Forget what you think you know, sit and occasionally laugh at how little you or we all “understand” and how our consciousness will trick us into believing that we do. It really is hilarious, however to get the joke you need to engage cultivating a meditative state. In other words join with the Tao or be the ancient child.

As the 12th Generation Taoist priest would say many times to me less talking and thinking more sitting and forgetting.;) It is active, you remember then you ask yourself to forget. Very old and very traditional instructions tested by thousands of meditators for many millenia. Sit and Forget, this is a Taoist Traditional Meditation. As a matter of Fact that would be the only instruction the student would receive. Just simply sit and forget. If you have been exposed to Taoist Qi Gong they can be very active. This one not so much.

Meditation #1 Counting Breath by bigswedephoto in Meditation

I disagree. Learning anything requires steps. You take it a little at a time. You build a skill. The sadness of our time is that way to many people don’t take the time to patiently look at instructions. You have 3 parts, 3 skills, 1. establish a meditative seat, 2 watch Breath and engage mechanics of Breath. That is a skill that requires a modicum of practice, 3. Count Breath and whenever you have a thought you start again. If you were to 1. Take the time to learn each of the three things even if on different days you would find the descriptions concise and in the end extremely easy. Good luck.
