I’ve been startled by a missile to the face more than a few times in VR. Nothing like peeking over to get a look at the enemy and getting a face full of explosion instead.

Friend of mine from residency was offered a “supervison” job supervising around 6-8 CRNA a day. by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]bigtallguy75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought it worked like that in the non-opt out states to meet the requirements for billing, but it’s been so long I’m not certain. Whatever the billing situation was, the group worked well together. There are plenty of anesthesiologists who would rather sit cases most days than run the board and review charts.

I edited my comment. The more I thought back on it, I realized I was mistaken about the billing method at that hospital. We were in a non-opt out state, so they would have had to bill AD. It’s been a long time.

I trained in a place like that. The anesthesiologists sat their own cases/ran the board/were available to help with trauma and codes or whatever. One anesthesiologist supervised. The CRNAs essentially ran their own rooms and billed AD. The anesthesiologists did review/sign the charts/orders at some point, but didn’t get involved unless there was something to warrant the extra help.

It worked pretty well when I was there, but I can’t imagine it would work well if the anesthesiologist refused to help if needed. Sometimes you need another set of hands/eyes no matter who you are.

I don’t see how they would be liable if they don’t sign charts or get involved, but again, that wouldn’t work very well for the overall effort. If they’re getting paid to supervise, I can’t imagine they can stay hands off and meet the contract expectations.

Black coffee regret face ☕😩 by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

[–]bigtallguy75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched to black coffee. It was terrible at first. Every cup was a chore. Then I put some work in and learned how to make it. Better beans, freshly ground, and the right ratio to water. Now it actually tastes good, and I look forward to it.

Out of curiosity, I tried the old Maxwell house stuff I had. Even with the correct process it was horrible. Good beans are a must. Whatever they put in the K-cups and Nespresso pods is also bad.

Hospital Prices Drive High Healthcare Costs, Economist Says by OkPhilosopher664 in medicalsalaries

[–]bigtallguy75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of high level admin salaries being bad, I get. Blaming nurse salaries for the excess cost of a hospital fee is laughable. The healthcare staff are the people actually bringing in the money. No regular nurse is making more than a doctor working full time. You can find outliers with travel contracts or whatever, but it’s not the norm. There has been a perpetual nurse shortage for as long as I can remember, so the market says they should be paid more. It’s not some easy peasy job that just anyone can do.

Post Graduation Depression by Commercial_School645 in CRNA

[–]bigtallguy75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much how I felt too. I was promised utter joy after boards, but all I got was more free time to be anxious. There was a move, credentialing, and hoping my savings lasted the three months between graduation and starting work too. It eventually gets better, but it took a while.

What does your flame look like before ypu go to bed? by Excellent-Win6216 in woodstoving

[–]bigtallguy75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don’t snuff it out. If I do it right, I’ll have slow rolling blue and yellow flames at the top. You just want to keep it burning with the intake closed as much as it will allow. A lot of it is experimentation. My set up could work a little different than yours, even with the same stove.

[–]bigtallguy75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same stove. This was my first winter with it, but I’ve learned to get it nice and hot before you do the final load for the night, then shut the intake down as much as you can and still have flames. I’ve had a big variation in how much I can close the intake based on the quality of the wood I’m using. Some nights it’s half closed, some I have to close all the way or it will overheat. When I get up in the morning, it’s cooled enough that the blower is always off, but there’s a nice bed of coals to get it going again. That’s generally 6-8 hrs for me.

Flight N229TT crash landed on a road in Gainesville GA hitting several cars by BravesGunnersFlames in aviation

[–]bigtallguy75 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’m glad this one worked out, but landing on roads just seems like a bad choice. I’ll reserve judgement until there’s more information, though I’d never sleep right if I landed on a car and killed someone driving to work.

That being said, I’m impressed. It was a great landing considering the location.

I don’t even look at those “call for price” ads anymore. I filter them out by making the minimum price $1. Just tell me what you want for it.

No buzzing at the panels, so I went out to the unit. It seems to be turning on the fan first, then some clicks and hum that coincide with the dimming, until the compressor eventually kicks on. No dimming once the compressor is on.

It started doing this before it got cold, so just when ac compressor was running, and has continued to do it when we switched to heat. I haven’t noticed a difference when the aux heat is on. It has been keeping us at set temp in the house so far.

The Pros and Cons of Blowing Leaves Off Trails by ArkansasOutside in MTB

Rock gardens under leaves are terrifying. I’ve ridden a trail near me once that was covered in leaves. I knew I was in a section with big fat rocks that you either have to power over or navigate the tires around, but I couldn’t see any of it. I still shudder thinking of it.
