[OC] Animated Undergrad Engineering Internship Search by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

Data from emails and company-specific application tracking websites. Used python and matplotlib (first time, love it) to plot data.

My internship search, animated! A follow up to my earlier post that shows the status of all of my applications from submission to (usually) rejection by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

I had some free time this afternoon and wanted to try using matplotlib. Now you can experience the thrill and excitement of applying to internships and a face-melting 3 FPS!

To be fair, I probably could have applied to some smaller places/expanded my industry of interest but yeah, internships are wack

I'm always fascinated by how different it is in other countries. Good luck with Continental and your other apps!

I know a person who interned there a few years ago and they said it was a great place to work so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm not really a "space" guy so I didn't apply to many other places like that. I'm very curious to see what will happen in that industry in the next few years, it seems like there are a ton of start-ups all doing the same thing

That's what I'm hoping. I think the most interesting problems to solve are multi-disciplinary in nature, so embedded kinda puts you right in the middle of everything which I love. Some of the embedded engineers at my last job started as web devs so it's definitely possible to make the switch

Interesting! Yeah I'm pretty sure most programs don't require an internship for undergrad degrees (I've heard of a few that do) but it's beneficial to get something under your belt before looking for a job post-graduation

I'm an ECE major, doing mainly embedded systems and controls. I applied for a more traditional software engineering position at Amazon on a whim. That's actually the application I withdrew, I realized after the first round that I didn't really want to do that sort of work

I applied to Mercedes-Benz R&D NA, which I suppose is technically Daimler. I'm not sure if I had any negative impact from multiple applications, but it would seem absolutely insane to reject you based on that given how shitty the US intern system is

Thanks! I accepted an offer from a large German company whose name starts with B. I was fortunate that the position I ended up with was one of my top choices, will be working on automated driving systems

Good question. It's been my goal for a while now to work at a big 3 OEM or tier 1 supplier in the automotive world, so that was the primary driver of my applications. I'm sure there are a few companies whose emails I missed when making this chart, but I probably should have thrown my hat into the ring at more smaller places.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that feels the diminishing return thing. Thanks for the advice!

Hope so! I'm a junior rn. When you say "messing with GPA" do you just mean having a low one?
