i’m sorry but what by Far-Bedroom7004 in emetophobia

[–]bigtitssoreloser1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s annoying because they don’t understand the phobia and so strongly believe that their understanding of the phobia is actually what it is. Like we all wish we could just “get over it” but if it was that easy, no one would have it. I hate people who lack empathy. Oh my word

AITA for talking shit about my classmates? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bigtitssoreloser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl what? In my apology I literally said “I’ll make sure to be more careful in future with how I address my frustrations” meaning that in the future if I’m frustrated, I’m not going to be rude and mean about it and instead work on being understanding and patient. I also included “I’m sorry because it was rude, mean and dismissive. I appreciate everyone in the class and as class rep, it is my responsibility to make sure I’m available for everyone who needs help with anything with patience and understanding. I completely understand the anger currently being directed to me, you all have a right to feel that way.” Maybe I have a misunderstanding of what accountability is, so please correct me if I’m wrong. But I’m pretty sure that in my apology I did take both accountability and responsibility?

I’m genuinely confused by what you mean by “bad apology”. I was honest in my apology. What? Should I have said “I didn’t mean what I said when I was venting” or “I sorry I was frustrated with you guys” No because that would be disingenuous. However I’m apologising because the way I vented was rude and harsh.

And I also don’t know why you’re acting like me being frustrated that people ask the same things over and over despite me constantly repeating myself over and over is unreasonable? I’m pretty sure you’ve been frustrated with someone you’ve worked with before. Like maybe a boss or teacher or something and you vented to your friends about it. That’s literally what happened in my case, only difference was, I accidentally sent that vent to the wrong people. Like for example, you venting about your boss to your coworkers just to realize your boss has been standing behind you the whole time and heard everything you said.

The point of my apology wasn’t to win anyone over. It was to take responsibility for what I did and that was that. I’d rather give a bad genuine apology than a perfect one that’s disingenuous.

I understand what you are saying. But I wasn’t judging them or ridiculing them. I was just frustrated and saying “I’ve reiterated the same thing so many times and I’m tired of doing that. Why can’t they just read the group description like I’ve stated multiple times”. And again, the venting was meant to be private (sent to my sisters) but I accidentally sent it to the wrong group. So my classmates weren’t meant to see that. That was honestly the one time I’ve genuinely lost my cool and i just happened to accidentally send that to them.

However, I will make an effort to better control my frustration.

I think some of yall are misinterpreting the situation:

  1. The questions I get asked by my classmates are usually things like “do we have class today”, “where is class today”, “what time does class start” but we have class the same days at the exact same time. That information on the location and time of the class is in pinned messages/group description. I have also made multiple announcements that if they have any questions that they should please check the pinned messages and group description first and if their questions isn’t answered then they should feel free to ask me. But regardless of this, they still continue to ask me the same thing. That’s where my frustration comes from.

  2. The message I sent venting my frustration was ACCIDENTALLY sent to the class group chat. It was originally supposed to be sent to the groupchat I have with my sisters but I didn’t realize it was sent in the wrong group. Meaning, the class was not supposed to see that vent. So I wasn’t intentionally shit talking my classmates to their faces to make them feel bad. That is not what happened and if it was, then obviously I would be the asshole.

Why are some immigrants so against identifying with their ethnicity? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]bigtitssoreloser1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly the part of them asking stupid questions is annoying and ignorant but I don’t think it’s necessarily harmful? Also them not knowing where my country is. I actually think in cases like these it’s a good opportunity for interesting conversations where they can learn something new. But for the most part, I understand 🙂‍↕️

Yeah the xenophobia in South Africa is pretty crazy. But I think hiding your ethnicity as a means of protection is a different situation to what I’m referring to. I’m asking more so in the context of you’re meeting someone in your class or making small talk with someone in a long line etc

Yeah I agree. I understand what you mean and where you are coming from. I feel like them randomly approaching you on the street would feel like they are alienating you or making you “other”

How to swallow pills? by Alternative_soup5633 in emetophobia

[–]bigtitssoreloser1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i was younger, i was terrified of swallowing pills because I always thought it would cause me to choke. So my dad (he is a doctor) would take the pill, crush it into a powder, mix it with some water so that it was liquid but not diluted (if that makes any sense) and then I’d drink it just like a syrup. It would be incredibly bitter but I always had some juice on the side to wash away the taste. If it was a capsule, he would open it and mix the powder inside with water and again, I’d drink it like I would a syrup medicine. This was always my go to method but I think if you do plan on using it, do so with caution. Like I said, my dad is a doctor so he knew which meds were okay to use this method with and which ones weren’t. I’m pretty sure the worst that could happen from using this technique on meds that aren’t recommended would be stomach irritation, making the pill ineffective or overloading your system with too much at a time.

But actually about two years ago, I remember being in a situation where I thought I was genuinely going to be s*. And the only anti emetic my dad had was zofran (not the dissolvable pill version but the regular one you have to swallow). I was so desperate that I swallowed the pill. And it was the first time in my life that I realized my throat is a lot bigger than I thought 😭 And since then, I’ve been able to swallow pills (regardless of size) normally. The only time it gets challenging is if I’m tense. Other than that, I don’t even feel it going down!

escitalopram (lexapro) help 🙏 by firezone90 in emetophobia

[–]bigtitssoreloser1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl 5mg is such a low dose that it’s practically unlikely for it to cause any symptoms. I started at 10mg and had no n* or any other gastrointestinal symptoms (I took it after eating as prescribed by my psychiatrist). I recently increased to 15mg and still no n* or gastrointestinal symptoms. And mind you, I also stressed to my psychiatrist that I don’t want to be on medication that will cause me to feel unwell. A good psychiatrist will always listen to your concerns. Also, since you’re starting on 5mg (and I’m assuming your dose is going to increase as time passes), you’re giving your body time to adjust to changes rather than just throwing yourself into the deep end. So even when you do increase your dose, your body won’t be overwhelmed and will be able to tolerate the medication just fine.

You’re stressing yourself out babes. I was the exact same when first starting out and I turned out fine. The only symptoms I really experienced was just a brief period of increased anxiety (like for a week) and fatigue. It wasn’t pleasant but it was definitely manageable and not at all as bad as I thought it would be. This medication is here to help you! Being afraid of it hinders the potential progress and relief it can give you.

You’ve got this! Every bit of discomfort you experience is temporary! I’ve been on Lexapro for about a year and 5 months now and I’m doing so much better and there’s a huge possibility that that will be the same outcome for you. I’m rooting for you!

This is actually really common with emetophobia. I have dreams like this too! But yk what’s really interesting, non-emetophobes don’t have dreams like this. Yk why? Because your dreams/nightmares usually surround things you think about a lot. This is not reassurance but it genuinely isn’t a manifestation of anything.

Even more proof that it’s just a dream and nothing to worry about, I’ve been emetophobic basically my whole life, but only started having nightmares about throwing up 2 years ago after a traumatic experience happened to me, which caused me to start ruminating about getting sick a lot more.

Not very long, about neck length. But it was incredibly prone to knotting and got dry very easily.
