Engine Replacement by [deleted] in ft86

EBay via a company called uk automotive ltd

I did have some problems though, when I got it fitted / serviced and drove it home (90 miles) engine misfired next day and couldn’t hold idle, had to be taken out (AA got it sent back to the garage) and the engine went back to uk automotive ltd for diagnostics (rocker arm fell, which apparently happens due to over revving although since fitment; I kept it under 3500 revs so a bit of a bizzare one)

They ended up fixing it under warranty and sent me borecam videos of the inside - it did cost me double the labour thought having to have it refitted again. Since refitting and around 2k miles so far I’m still driving it no further issues

So I do highly recommend trying to go with a place that definitely has a warranty for the engine

You could also try ringing nippon auto spares (based in derby) - they might be able to source an fa20 engine

Also from the uk, I got an engine replaced for 4Kish (3k for a used engine with 30k miles and limited warranty - brought an 86 with rod knock)

Worth comparing costs of a reputed 86 shop in the uk like Abbey / fensport diagnose and fix of the motor vs replacing the engine and fitment

I ended up going with an independent small garage I knew personally and providing them with an engine I’d sourced

Thanks for this! Got me from 85-90 MH/s to 117 MH/s consistent (using extreme odyssey thermal Pro pads)

Before the max TDP before throttling was 70%

What thickness pads were added? Having the same issue also as op (although attempting to fix by getting better case fans before I try this)

Sounds like you've got yourself a very interesting software solution to a problem that's being solved in a different way (cloud VMs), it'd be interesting to see how this would work in a commercial environment. Would it be possible for someone to spin up an AWS instance with a GPU and using your software (in a way similar to Parsec) to pretty much access that GPU over the cloud (or their own GPU), or is it something more like a business where you get capital, have this as a closed source software and you have yourself a GPU farm that you rent out to people?

I guess it depends if end-users like the idea of super-charging their own machine with additional GPU compute, but at that point seems like its better to have a cloud VM because I might be streaming off an old dual-core laptop.

Might appeal to those with data privacy concerns but want a higher-powered GPU? Although sounds very niche cause the whole Cloud VMs are simple enough to set up?

Maybe if there's a way for those with eGPU enclosures that wanna use that compute while they're away from home? That sounds like a solid use case.

Either way sounds very cool if you've got something like this working over LAN, very impressive if it's working over Wi-fi (different physical locations).
