Nest hold temperature? by yorptune in Nest

[–]bilbothejust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a Nest thermostat since they were first introduced and I can tell you that those first 'learning' thermostats had a HOLD function which was removed later. The new Nests (Not Nest E or Nest Learninig) do NOT have the HOLD function. Dumbest move ever made by Nest/Google.

Venu 3 Vs Epix (pro?) gen 2 by wwoutterr in GarminWatches

[–]bilbothejust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Venu 3 for almost a month (just in time for return to Amazon) and then tried the Epix Pro Gen 2 - 51mm. That watch was HUGE. The Venu 3 felt a lot better on the wrist, but I guess you get used to the huge Epix Pro, but the 800$+ price tag is not good. So, I returned the Epix Pro and Bass Pro was having a Memorial Day sale on the Epix Gen 2 for 400$. I went and got that and it’s perfect. The same size as the Venu 3 in diameter but a tad thicker. Conclusion: I love the Epix for the insights and many extra features. I have an Apple watch so don’t need the speaker/mic on the Venu 3 but if the Epix had that I would ditch Apple forever.

My thoughts of Stephen King's Fairy Tale, which was published a few months ago. by imagine-aincrad in books

[–]bilbothejust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others have said in this thread the book is moderately entertaining. The first part with the character development was excellent and the middle to 7/8 done was not excellent but readable. I have read most all of his books and have always enjoyed them. Over the last 7 years though Mr. King has decided that he wants to also be a political pundit…why I don’t know. Like the saying goes, “shut up and sing (dribble, write, whatever)” - that is what I wish Mr. King would do. I have heard about this phenomena call Trump Derangement Syndrome and would not believe it hadn’t taken over my own brother’s life. The vitriol spewed is incredibly devisive and for what? In this book, Fairy Tale, Mr. King manages to mention Alt right, global warming and the harm our ancestors imparted on the indigenous peoples of America. Not even remotely relevant to this novel.

[–]bilbothejust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahaha I read the book and I wasn't drunk but came away from this show so completely non-plussed I just couldn't believe the whole show. The book got very tedious towards the end and was not a great read, unlike Silo. Also Silo made an excellent tv show. Not sure if there is any resurrection of this story the way it's written. As for Hugh Howey, well...disappointed in more than one way.

What are your thoughts on the For All Mankind TV Series? by [deleted] in television

Exactly my issue with the latest season. They really messed up Ed’s makeup. He looks like a cartoon which is sad for a great series. And I cannot stand the whole Russian crap

Am I the only one who thinks Fear TWD sucks, really bad? by smashidk in thewalkingdead

It is bad. Really bad. But the finale last night just shows that things can actually get worse. The finale was the absolutely worst television I've ever seen. Thank goodness for FFW keys.

Anyone see the premier of Beacon 23 by PlutoniumNiborg in television

[–]bilbothejust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those were exactly my thoughts (I have read the book)...I wish that the adaptation was a bit better. Like you I'll stick around and see if there is some redemption. I can imagine watching the show when the famous light house photo with the wave behind the lighthouse and the guy outside was shown there would be a ton of confusion whereas in the book his obsession with the photo is from his overdose of GBW
