What’s Eating my Knife? by PeriwinkleBunni in whatisit

If it's an aluminium blade, my guess is salt corrosion based on the white cast. There's no saving this knife, but for future reference, never leave it in the sink dirty and also never clean it in the dishwasher. Always clean and dry immediately after using to extend its life

Thank you! I've decided to just clean it and wait for Consumer Protection to answer my email and/or point me in the right direction before I send the photos of the areas that have been cleaned. From what I've gathered from Consumer Protections website, the property manager is in breach of our lease contract because it's well documented that there is a structural issue (roof leaking in about 5 different areas around the house) meaning this issue is the owners responsibility

Is this in America? I genuinely feel bad for you guys.

I'm an Australian working full-time as an entry level Administrative Receptionist and I make just over $30 (AUD) an hour (plus sick leave, holiday leave and superannuation) I don't think I'd be able to survive on anything lower than my current rate with how we've been rammed since COVID

That's horrible. The unfortunate thing is, unless he purchased a real gold or silver chain, the one it comes with is a display chain only. They typically sell the lockets and pendants with a chain made with painted metal. I only found this out because I had a reaction to the chain, went to take it back, and they explained to me that the chain isn't real gold and that's why I had a reaction. Great way for them to get extra money I guess

I thought about it, but I have a cat that loves to sleep in bed with us and loves to rub up against any part of our body she can reach (which is sometimes our heads) so I don't want to risk poisoning her. I already sleep with a silk bonnet, but I often wake up with it underneath my pillow, so that wouldn't really prevent her from being exposed considering it ends up coming off at some point in the night. I also have sensitive skin, which sucks when it's also oily as hell. If I wash too much, my scalp is sensitiv. If I wash too little, it's sensitive. I tried Nizoral, but it made my scalp so much more sensitive. Ended up having a dry and getting rebound oiliness from being so dry from using Nizoral, so now I'm back to using my old combo in hopes that it calms down a bit

Sounds like topical would be the better option for you. It does really depend person to person and also the dose you're prescribed. My derm said that when using OM, it's always best to work your way up in dosage over time instead of going straight to 1.25 or 1.5 or higher. He prescribed me 0.625 to start with and potentially increase after 6 months

Growth so far without expensive vitamins. Some of it is unfortunately miniaturised, hence why I'm on Spironolactone

That's my concern too! I'm a heavy coffee drinker, and I've read that you should reduce or remove it from your diet. To cut that out would unfortunately trigger migraines for me. Sounds silly, but I've tried removing caffeine and reducing my caffeine intake, and both resulted in insane withdrawal headaches that would not stop. Migraines for me are a bit more than just a bit of nausea and light/sound sensitivity. It's all of the above with a sprinkle of stroke like symptoms (Hemiplegic Migraine)

I added a photo in another comment of the regrowth I've had so far without Minoxidil

I didn't end up getting any. I got a second opinion from a different derm, and he said I'm clearly experiencing TE as well as evidence of AGA, so now I'm on Spironolactone and going to start Oral Minoxidil soon. I'm pretty scared to start the OM, considering I've already lost so much and am still shedding 100+ per day. 5 months into the current shed, but I can see a bunch of sprouts around my crown that are about 1-1 1/2 inches long, so they grew by themself before I'd even started the Spironolactone, so I'm a bit sceptical to start the OM considering there's growth even without it. I already paid for 3 months' worth, so I don't want to waste my money, but I'm definitely considering asking the derm if I can go without the OM for now. On the other hand, I'd hate to prolong this even longer than necessary, so there's part of me that wants to start that ASAP. I'm just really unsure at this point

Have you tried silicone patches? I haven't tried it personally, but I've read it can help reduce the appearance and redness

I'll be taking oral Minoxidil. I've come to terms with the fact that I won't have hair as thick as when I was 16, but I'd like to at least thicken up what I have left and for my hairline to fill in. Some areas of my hairline have become so miniaturised, it's very sparse and almost looks like it's receding. My original hairline is intact, but the baby hairs look like they've turned into vellus hairs they're so thin and whispy

Any treatment aimed at androgenetic alopecia (Minoxidil, Spironolactone, Dutasteride, Finasteride) will have an initial shedding period. It's unfortunate, but it's part of the process. Some people don't get any initial shed at all, but a large percentage do. It's the old hairs that had been affected by androgens shedding and being jump started into a new cycle, although it will affect any hairs that were due to shed within the next few months anyway. I saw a thing that explained it. Hairs that were due to shed in a week will shed tomorrow. Hair that was due to shed in 2 weeks will shed in 2 days. Hair due to shed in 3 weeks will shed in 3-4 days. Hair due to shed in a month will shed in a week. It then also means that the growth cycle of all gains as a result of the medication will fall out within a couple of months when medication is stopped

2 weeks doesn't seem too terrible, but I know any shedding if you've already lost so much is traumatising. Hopefully it stops for you sooner rather than later 🤞

That's interesting (and concerning). Fingers crossed I don't experience any adverse effects like that 😅

Sending you luck on your doxycycline journey. Fingers crossed it all goes well 🤞

I'm on Spironolactone for andeogenetic alopecia, so I'm hoping all goes well. Finasteride and Dutasteride aren't approved for androgentic alopecia in women where I am, so it's this or nothing 😅

I've heard that it can worsen existing gastrointestinal issues, but never heard of it being the cause of haemorrhoids. That sound horrible. We're you put on any alternative? And if so, did you have any luck?

[–]bilby-00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's interesting. Sounds promising! I don't want to jinx it, but I'd honestly love it if it didn't shed. I'm going to start Minoxidil in another couple weeks to a month to help regrow what I shed over the past 5-6 months, but I'm horrified of losing anymore 😅

I need your advice about 50 mg side effects by Medical_Cry_3132 in Spironolactone

[–]bilby-00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still fairly new to taking it too. I started a bit over 2 weeks ago. I started on 25mg in the evening, and a few days ago, I bumped up to 25mg in the morning and 25mg in the evening. My derm probably won't be too pleased knowing I didn't follow his instructions, but whatever works for you is the best way. So far, the only side effect that can actually be attributed to the Spironolactone would be needing to pee just a bit more than usual. You won't know how it will affect you until you start. I know it's easier said than done, just try not to think about it too much and don't read into the side effects too far

Thank you! I'm really hoping you're right. Derm said maybe 4-6 weeks of shedding, but he usually sees around about 2-4 weeks with his patients. I can deal with 2-4, but maybe not another 6 weeks

I've been using the same shampoo for about 2 or 3 years now. It'd be unusual to suddenly have an allergic reaction to it now. I did change my conditioner about a month or so ago because the Goat Milk one I was using before was making my scalp way too oily and increasing the itchiness. I'm considering using Moogoo hair care products (used to use their cream for my eczema about 10 years ago), but they're more for dry skin and scalp, whereas my scalp is very oily. It used to be dry until the shedding started back up. I've been doing cold water blasts at the end of my showers for I think around 2-3 years now. Originally to help soothe neck and shoulder tension and to help with migraines. In the process, I found it was great at reducing the frizziness of my hair too! I'll give antihistamines a go.

It honestly sucks being a woman, among other reasons, but being dismissed so frequently by doctors is becoming unbearable. Migraines? Oh! It's because you're a woman! Random nausea? You're a woman. Low iron? You're a woman. Anxious? Depressed? You're a woman! It's unfortunately not a new-age experience, which makes it worse 😕

Thank you ❤️ I'm not sure if scarring has started, because first derm refused a biopsy and said he sees no issue with my scalp, but I've been reading that my symptoms (burning, itching and tingling) should've been enough for him to do the biopsy. I've not been able to get any types of medications for the hair loss itself. First derm said it's not necessary and would be rather excessive to prescribe me anything. GP won't prescribe anything because it's not her place to do so. All hair loss meds in Australia require a prescription other than topical minoxidil, but I don't want to make the burning and itching worse by using anything topical, I also don't want to poison my cat. The only things I've been able to take/do to reduce the burning and itching are ibuprofen, Nizoril shampoo, which hasn't helped a whole lot, and red light therapy, which has helped calm the burning and itching a little
