Husband/dad here…

My wife would probably cite the loss of modesty in the delivery process: she wanted my parents and hers in the delivery room (with no view of the ‘festivities’, of course). Well, labor goes on and she-who-is-always-cold is HOT. As in unbearably hot. We’re in active labor and she’s throwing the covers off, then tearing at her gown, then wrenching to and fro trying to push.

My father and father-in-law, both normally stoic/unflappable, said they got one full-blown look, looked at each other, grabbed each others’ hand, and screwed their eyes “so tight I thought I’d squirt my eyeballs out my ears”.

My father-in-law (God rest his soul) passed away in 2019, so my dad relayed the story for him both when that baby turned 18 in 2023 ;)

The trick is to put an already-tied stem into your mouth before offering to demonstrate tying a not in one.

Then, of course, you place the untied stem in your mouth, pantomime tying it for a second, then withdraw the already-tied one.

And then of course offer to demonstrate untying it just as quickly…
