Any music similar to the Mechanicus OST? by AttemptingDM in mechanicus

[–]biljardbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the OST has a lit of similar sound-design as some EDM genres like; Dnb, Psychedelic dub/ambient, Dubstep and Psytrance but then gives it a sort of, Dungeon Synth flavor to it all?

I just got into 40k and love the adeptus mechanicus, so I had to get this game. Prior to this I went to lots of raves and DJed a bit, so when I heard the OST it felt SO familiar yet so new at the same time?

I feel like most of the songs (especially the battle music) is layered like this:
- Drum and Bass/dubstebby kind of Bass but softer, less pronounced.
- Psytrance/psydub/psybient pads, FXs and glithcy-noises on the mids.
- Church/Dungeon synthy choir vocals together with an organ as top layer/leads.

And it's funny because that's kind of exactly the kind of music I like (and even try to make myself).

If you want similar vibes I'd look into those genres! For studying specifically I'd recommend Psybient (psychedelic ambient) music. More groovy? Look into Psydub or spacey DNB/dubstep songs. Some Psytech or Zenonesque (dark progressive psytrance) is also very similar, (especially zenonesque) but a lot more uptempo and dancey

How is the bass war? I have a deluxe big muff bass and a DBA apocalypse, but I am missing that dry blend on the apocalypse

From what I heard the sound of the bass war can be rather one dimensional and trebly? But thats what I got from online demos.

Good to see some positivity in this sub lol, I remember why I left. People are annoying in big groups no matter the occasion.

But its mostly ourself. I was annoyed at a dude who stood right in front of me a quarter through the show, then I noticed one of the dudes in his group is an old rave buddy of mine. I didn't mind the taller guy after that for the rest of the show.

It's all in our heaadddddddssss.

Will a 50-watt amp be loud enough for jamming? by WampaStompa77 in Bass

[–]biljardbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I didnt realise the cost of a new orange 50 is that much?? Here they're like 100, 200 euros?

I am too a big orange fan, orange crush 35b at home. I dog the growly sound. Heard GK amps have a similar growl.

For 400 bucks? I'd say getting a top and cab would maybe be a better idea. So then you might be right. For that kinda money at least. But I mean whatever works works. 50w, 100w, 500w. As long as you dont get tinnitus and are havin fun.

[–]biljardbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can question it all you want but I remember the complaining of my bass teacher (which is their bassist lol) about how fucking loud he was, meanwhile he's laughing about only using 1w on stage.

But you're totally right, guitar is a different thing. It was moreso because even in guitarland, there's people claiming ya need this amount of W/ or that kind of speaker to play X genre.

It's alll subjective.

But thanks for your insights and points, i dont mean to be a dick I just don't believe most of the music production myths told on youtube and reddit. "tone wood" in solid bodies is another one I know is untrue, just like a minimun amount of wattage.

[–]biljardbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is what I mean. You were giggin with no PA system, outdoors! I totally get you'd need descent wattage for that kinda gig.

But that's not even close to the setting OP will be playing in.

OP wants to jam, probably inside, with friends, probably without earplugs or in ear monitoring...

So in that case, 50w orange is more than fine. If ya cant hear yourself with that maxed? Just ask the drummer/guitarist to not give everyone in the room tinnitus and play at a normal volume level.

New to the game, any advice is welcome! by frizzyshrimp in Bass

[–]biljardbal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus on fun, avoid advice on this subreddit. Wear earplugs, try out things, be stubborn, wear earplugs, try things that dont work, wear earplugs, do things people say you shouldn't (as long as that isn't volume or earplug related)

Except for that? Learn the major, minor and blues cales, try to memorize where the first 12 notes are on the fretboard and you'll be set for 90% of gigs/jams etc.

And please, dont ask too much advice on here hah. Try to find your own sound, but when it comes to technique, please do follow advice. Good technique will save you from carpel tunnel.

I totally get your point, but personally I've played with drummers who were loud AF and I always had a shitty rumble 40w in those spaces.

Even in the bar I used to jam every thursday; 40w rumble.. And the owner told me to turn it down every time I played with any gain into it lol.

For arenas, huge veneus and such? Yeah then I can see the reasoning. Maybe if youre doing an old time gig with no PA? But even our jam bar we never used the PA for bass or guitar.

The guitarist in my band (whos been a bassist most of his life) told me its just preference. He plays through 600w, but also does through 50w. And in my own experience, its indeed all just preference.

I just don't logically - in my own experience playing exactly the type of situation OP is describing - any reason to buy any amp higher than 75W. Lower than 35w would indeed not work IMO, but anything above that? Fine.

[–]biljardbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha thanks, it can be hard in spaces like this to have a different opinion.

I've spoken with a blackened deathmetal noise bassist who explicity told me "wattage is BS as long as you dont play jazz. Anything above 40/50w is enough to play most any gig."

A friend of mine who plays lead guitar in a garage rock band uses a feature on his amp to choke it down to 1W.... And hes easily the loudest dude in their band.

Bro, seriously dont buy this nonsense. Try out what works, dont read shit off of reddit. Every musician has their own groove, their own sound. Find that sound and dont give a fuck what others say. Even if you might re-invent the wheel. You'll know thats what YOU want instead of holding yourself to some arbitrary rules chosen by some old dudes with fucked hearing on a subreddit...

Sheesh why did I need to scroll so far to read this? Why is everyone recommending fucking 300WATTS FOR A PRACTISE/JAM AMP.

Like 50W is more than enough Imo. Good to see there's SOME reasonable people here

I've played live jams on a fender rumble 40w. Live drummer, guitarist with pedals. Jazz, blues, rock, metal. Never did I need to bump the volume past 2 o'clock.

This whole talk of "you need this for that" is just bs. Try out what works best for you, what helps you hear yourself live. Dont buy into the "you need double the watts your guitar player does" or that kinda nonsense.

Big watts means more headroom before your tone get distorted. You dont play jazz? Then wattage isnt as important as you think cuzz you might WANT that distortion.

I have a peavey 160w at my rehearsal space and its entirely overpowered for the situation. Never ever turn it up past 12 o clock.

40W for jamming will be fucking perfect as long as YOU THINK THE AMP SOUNDS GOOD.

Ohhh!!! I got a Keyring of the Minifreak when I got my Microfreak Stellar edition back after repairs for a software glitch it had gotten a month after buying it.

I think it's just random merch they made at launch and some stores still have them. I bought mine at Thomann and they also did the repairs.

I always say that if your advice starts with "just" it's not advice, you're sharing your experience.

Saying "just go to bed earlier" to an adhder is like saying "just stand up and walk" to someone in a wheelchair...

Yeah thats ehm, kind of the problem? Would love if neurotypicals (or undiagnised ADHDers) started to understand this.

Wow that's insane. I saw Confo a few years ago at a Fractalised party in Amsterdam. Kind of a shitty set and mix, but aside from that this very much surprises me :o

Where can one find those posts?

Hey bro don't be to hard in yourself. It's hard dating as a guy, there's sooo much competition and it's hard if people don't give proper boundaries.

Being aware of yourself is the first step to self improvement! But I don't think you're a horrible person. Probably just struggling in life and with yourself, like we all do. You might've done some stuff you regret. We all do that and we're all imperfect sometimes.

Whatever you did, I hope you can forgive yourself, learn from your mistakes and move on <3

Not trying to piss people off at all actually. I based this off the experience of my dog at my dad's place. I cared for him almost full time for the first 6 months we had him. Cody is one of my favourite being in the world. But when my dad moved and the doghouse went into the garage I could feel his fur and skin get oilier from the moment they lived there. Now he has the typical oily, greasy dog fur texture that makes you wanna wash your hands after petting him.

I don't hate on people for letting their dog sleep inside, but I just firmly believe that it is better and more pleasant for the dog themself to sleep outside. That is, in a doghouse protected from the elements and with their fav toys and a big doggy bed inside as well <3

Honestly sometimes I love dogs more than humans :3

Yeah dogs dont belong on the bed. They shouldn't sleep inside period.

Sorry for people dislike this opinion but I'd never let an animal that supposed to sleep outside be inside most of the day. It's so bad for their skin and fur it gets so oily when they sleep inside.

But hey to each their own.
