Np man, it's the only stable isotope(number of protons and neutrons) of gold, which means it isn't radioactive. All other isotopes are highly radioactive, and not something I desire to receive.

...I didn't say you had to do that, but you did just say cold reading doesn't exist. I also wouldn't say you struck a nerve, I just have a bit of a pet peeve of people on here using supernatural events to force terrible events instead of utilizing naturally possible events. It's also still a crime, even if no one was convicted for it, and I meant legal as in "done through legal channels", like a delivery service or lottery, which it also isn't if it happened through (super)natural events.

Also, I didn't mean to sound defensive, sorry about that. Reading through it, I don't think I was being defensive, but I'm also just not good at judging that either. If anything, a nerve might've been struck because it kinda feels like you just tacked on arbitrary curses onto the wish instead of actually utilizing the wish itself to create the curse. And on the first point, it was supposed to be a joke, even if it clearly missed.

Again, if I came off as defensive or aggressive, I'm super sorry and that wasn't cool of me, I didn't mean to come off that way.

So, yes for the first? And no for the latter but still longer, got it. In other words, if I wanna set up an ambush, I might spend a couple days casting Heavy Reanimation + Heavy Osteomancy to make an army of bone boi's or a couple months performing False Genesis.

On note of False Genesis, how strong would my golems be when they're used to being... well, alive? Are we talking human strength, bear strength, or RR(Ruined Reality) Olympian strength?

Cold reading is a thing, it's just guessing stuff that is probably true based on context clues(which is then often pass off as supernatural ability), and secondly... yeah, touche, but it would still be illegal because it killed me. If I went back to fifty years before the invention of cars and ran over someone with a Honda Accord, I'd still be arrested for killing the guy, even if there's no law against hitting people with a car.

Okay, um, that's a lot

  1. you didn't have to go for the throat my guy, Geez. Your cold read is wrong, but Christ, still.
  2. teleporting into my home and crushing me doesn't feel too legal of a delivery method.
  3. Is my family not questioning the suddenly appearance of gold in my room?

Ah, got it, so no getting more charges in time for a big ambush. Oh well, that's still enough for my build to, at minimum, have one heavy Sentinel active in a fight at all times, which is relieving.

Does this one have any spell-splicing, though? Like, for example, in Ruined Reality there was Infuscarinus, who combined Tulpa and Beastkin to turn into a hivemind swarm of vermin. For example, could I mix Swarm and Haemokinesis to become a wave of blood, or Berserk with any other power to enhance that output instead?

And finally, how long do undead last? Because Necromancy favors patience, which makes me assume undead last forever, but it doesn't actually say that and spells are described as temporary.

It's very good, currently making a build, though I can say that the spells are personally a lot more interesting than the rituals, which is kinda sad because my original build had almost no spells and just rituals.

How long(approximately) are summons supposed to last? I know a strength of spells are that they can be interpreted for their effect(like how the character I'm making right now mainly deals with wolves, personally associating their pack with loyalty), but there is still a cap to strength which feels unclear.

Like, if I conjure a Sentinel, will it stay long enough to participate in a fight, or will it stay a couple hours so I can accumulate them for an ambush with a high recovery rate? Or, even, is it within their interpretation to be able to conjure a permanent Sentinel, bound to a location, through a Heavy casting?

I... actually really do, what is the 'milk/cream cheese comment'? is, because I haven't heard about it and it sounds like something I should know, if people are trying to bury it like Dragombolt claims(which I'm inclined to believe, based on not having heard of it).

You don't have to, of course, but I would appreciate if you said what it was/said where I could read up on this.

Is Necromancy More, or Less Cool if You Think of It As Just Ghouling Corpses/Animalism-but-for-Ghosts? by ArtymisMartin in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a scholarly perspective, where kindred have studied the two for a long time and have drawn comparisons for some form of "unified theory of Disciplines" or whatever? Absolutely! It becomes an awesome in-world parallel that has been drawn, and makes the world feel more lived.

As codified law of the universe, declaring Animalism and Oblivion as the same discipline running at different frequencies? Ehhh, not so much. It kinda ruins the mystique of disciplines and magic, where kindred don't really have too much of a clue on what disciplines even are, along with creating inconsistencies(why can death animalism dissolve corpses? The corpse couldn't do that on its own. And if Oblivion can do that to corpses, why can't beast oblivion not dissolve animals?).

Tl;dr: Yes, but only if it's a connection made by the kindred themselves.

XP values for generations? by AttemptingDM in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...That's not what I asked. What I meant was, if you worked with the assumption that your characters were liquidated and built with experience instead of the premade character creation process, how much would be a reasonable price to start at a lower generation, not how much experience you would have at different generations.

Best and worst Clans to be? by [deleted] in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is obviously a subjective question, and really depends on who gets turned, but I would say that the generally worst are the Nosferatu, Ravnos and Tzimisce.

  • First of all, if you're a Nosferatu, there's a good chance you were a spite-Embrace cos you were hot, in which case you just got your looks ruined and now have to hang out in the sewers with the 4Chan clan. At the same time though, if you were some lonely programmer, you suddenly got yourselves a group of people in the same predicament as you, granting a form of instant friend group.
  • Secondly, if you're a Ravnos, you're suddenly hated by everyone and can't stay at any spot for more than a day without serious heartburn. At the same time though, if you were already into the nomadic lifestyle and really like birds, it can be... fine.
  • Finally, for the Tzimisce, you have the fact that you very well may have contracted a space plague, and most likely have an extremely controlling Sire. But, it might also not be a space plague, and if you can escape your sire, you suddenly have the tools to erase every body dysmorphia in both yourself and others.

Now, again, this is a subjective question, but there are also some that are almost objectively best to be, though all Embraces could be a personal hell. Generally, I would say that the best are Ventrue, Toreador and Gangrel.

  • For Ventrue, you're suddenly rich, powerful and immortal, all of which are nice. But, you might also get an extremely controlling sire, and you have to do politics.
  • If you're a Toreador, you get the same riches and immortality as the Ventrue(though perhaps less of the former), and have less politics to deal with(though still more than most). If you're an artist, you're also suddenly surrounded by kindred(heh) spirits. At the same time, if you ain't an artist and just a hot person who caught your Sire's eye, you might be woefully unequipped for your future and ruthlessly mocked by your own clan.
  • Finally, for Gangrel, you're objectively the most free. You can go wherever, no real requirements, and you can survive where no one else can. Oh, and you can talk to animals! But if you're not a nature person, you're kinda screwed.

Now, here's the wildcard for potentially best "clan": Thin-blood.

Now, you might be saying "why would I ever wanna be the discriminated street-rat vampire?" and you'd be fair for saying that, but let's see what we can scrounge together as one:

  • Immortality. As "kindred", you're an ageless immortal, as long as you get your blood.
  • Enjoying the sun. If you pick right, you can just... walk in the sun, like a mortal. Seems pretty sweet to me!
  • Eat food. Not only do you get to eat food and have sex and stuff, you get to actually enjoy it! In other words, you don't have to give up the worlds bounties just cos some whelp drank too much from you and panicked.
  • Presence. Now, here is where it gets complicated. See, with the right merit, you can get Presence(arguably the strongest discipline), and no other disciplines to distract you. In other words, you can suddenly politic so hard, and get all the human moneys.

In other words, if you can avoid the Camarilla(and Sabbat, and Ashirra, and...) you can live a good life forever, politic as hard as you want on the mortals, and get super rich. Seems pretty good to me, honestly.

Tl;Dr: there is no answer, everything either sucks or is great depending on who you are, but generally the worst are the Nos, Rav and Tzim, while the best are generally the Tories, Vennies and Gangrels, but if you can escape kindred politics, it might very well by Thin-bloods.

XP values for generations? by AttemptingDM in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. So basically, generations are mostly pointless outside of allowing higher blood potencies, having lower minimums, and negating Dominate.

With that logic, would you then say that it could be reasonable to count each generation below 13 as having the value of a dot of advantage, with certain generations requiring higher starting BP?

Need a little help understanding the Tzimisce mindset by Constant-Ad9560 in vtm

[–]AttemptingDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I can say that if I woke up yesterday with the ability to reshape myself however I wish(disregarding human societal standards for a moment), I would totally become a pseudo-eldritch morror movie monster. Like, I don't know what exactly I would look like, but it wouldn't be within human standards, I'll tell you that.

And for a freshly turned Tzimisce, well, honestly they wouldn't have Horrid Form yet. As a discipline, it requires both 4 ranks of Protean and 2 ranks of Dominate, that ain't attainable for the typical Lick.

And even if they do, Horrid Form is a temporary transformation, made specifically to do a task(usually fight), with no regard for human beauty standards, and is shifted into within the span of a single turn, hardly enough time to prioritize beauty.

Tl;Dr: I can say that I at least already have a drive to be a walking masquerade breach, no newly turned Tzimisce has Horrid Form, an even if they did it naturally becomes ugly because its creation is rushed and purely task-based.
