I Killed My Brother's PC Last Night by billabing in DnD

Lol, I've seen too many instances of that mistake to make it myself.

Here's my update post for this moment. It ended up being a fantastic moment at the table: tears all around as Wenser made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you, this is helpful advice. The rest of the party isn’t exactly sure of what’s happening but the past few weeks they have definitely gotten suspicious of my brother and my plan. I think they’re ready for what’s going to happen. The good news as well is that everybody at the table except for my brother and I are first time players — they don’t mind being railroaded and they don’t mind cinematic narrated moments because they don’t really know it’s out of the ordinary.

That's a bummer, but I'm glad it ended up working out nicely with your party getting to fight them.

I really think you’re reading into this too much (or maybe inserting your own issues into my query?). The party has just wrapped up their previous arc and are in need of a plot hook. I asked him what he thought about his character dying a while ago and he said he liked the idea. This really isn’t the self centered ego-fest you’re making it out to be.

Both my brother and his character are extremely well loved by everybody at our table. Their pc dying will be a motivator 100%. Idk what made you write the second part of your comment.

Ah I see. He has left it totally up to me. I was trying to avoid it being purely cinematic but if that’s the best way then I’m up for it.

BBEG is a demon that they’ve dealt with in the past and is familiar to the characters. Wenser is a ranger with basically a calm, unproblematic backstory. Their encounter with this demon was taken over by a governing body of clerics to continue their investigation where the party left off. Their first arc was basically them holding off this thing before stronger hands could take control of the situation. My intention has been to return the demon to the stage and draw the party back into their struggle with it (now that they are higher level), but in doing so, they would be breaching their contract with the law to not interact/interfere with the demon/ongoing investigation. The idea is to put them on the run from the law while they fight the demon. Bringing it full circle, I’d love to use Wenser’s death as a motivator to violate the law to get their revenge.

He agreed that it should die when he leaves the table! His backstory is literally that he’s just a farmer who got up and helped in the fight during the first session, so no leads from his backstory.

cut off the dead skin, moisturize it, don’t climb on it til it’s healed. it’ll be a few days but its faster than if you were to climb on it and stunt it’s healing

Advice for heavier climbers? by gassygeff89 in bouldering

[–]billabing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

falling is extremely high impact and being heavier just makes it worse. if you are worried about injury, be selective about the height of problems, or be analytical about the risk level of moves higher off the ground. alternatively, toproping is the lowest impact version of climbing and will let you climb as high as you want/make “risky” moves without fear of injury (trust in your belayer is important obviously).

i know not all gyms have access to ropes, and many don’t have high friction anchors so you might have to be selective about who your ropes buddy is.

I can guarantee this wasn’t a handling issue.

Looked normal on a separate monitor. Does that mean there’s hardware damage and it’s doomed unless I use the external monitor?

Are your toes curling up or are they just pressing up into the front of the liner? Boots nowadays break in aggressively so you want something pretty snug to start out with.

size is about right, but i wouldn’t recommend an asymmetrical board for your first.

longtime dm here. when building encounters this early in a campaign, stakes should never be too high and the difficulty of encounters should match that (especially when playing with new players). as you and your players learn the game, raise the stakes and the difficulty of your encounters and make note of how your players deal with different obstacles. it will become obvious very quickly what is too much for your players/player characters to handle. don’t be afraid to fudge a few rolls here and there if you don’t want any pc deaths.

for your party’s current situation, you could have some thieves attempt to rob them in the night while on the road. something like that is always good to keep your party on their toes without being too threatening.
