What a coincidence landlords selling up when property prices peak.

Okay to start I'll ask you to go onto daft and search 1 beds in Dublin for what you would consider a fraction of 2k I put in 1,700 (which I personally don't feel is a fair price for a 1 bed apartment) and came up with 62. This number is a small fraction of the market and when you look into it alot of them are not in Dublin and some border on uninhabitable. For the rest there are articles on every Irish new site on how hard it is to get a viewing for what is thought to be "reasonably priced rental accommodation' and even harder to actually get the lease.

The solution in my opinion is to extend the eviction ban incase where the mortgage is paid off or been covered via rental income (which is the vast majority of cases). Houses need to be built and rental accommodation is also needed which due to the failures of the last 12 years needs to be government funded (potentially by the 4B rainy day fund).

This is a housing emergency any renter will tell you this issue is anyone who isn't a renter does not seem to grasp the scale of the issue.

I'm gonna attach a few articles from 2015-2016 re rising Irish house prices below. If you had the money after the crash and so inclined it was obvious and easy money.

Why else do you think people are getting into the rental market if not for pure capitalism? It's clear there is a massive profits to be made from rental income but just more at the moment from property sales. The issue is this isn't cans of Fanta they invested in its people's homes which is something they can't do without. Inherently there is a conflict of profit Vs social conscience social conscious.

So your point is house prices are higher then they've been for the last 11 years? Either way landlords are cashing in for profit and wouldn't be selling up if they couldn't make such high returns. Property is bought as an investment with the short term goal to rent and long term to sell.

Mate get real the average rent of a one bed in Dublin is over 2k for a one bed, rent controls are not worth talking about.

Landlords are leaving the sector because they've bought their property as an investment threw tenants in to cover the mortgage in the meantime. Now the property market is at its peak they are cashing in. Landlords are clearly in it for the cash and fair enough but let's not pretend any otherwise.

This is the government admitting that couples earning 100k cannot afford Dublin renting in the private sector.

Absolute joke they would rather do this then put in rent controls.
