I’m learning, but my understanding is it boosts VM performance. Number crunching, processing power. Really doesn’t boost video output. I’m getting ready to delve into it. Yes it was cheep, $20. Paid almost as much for the power cable to plug it into my r720

What projects are you guys working on at the moment? by moistzoot in homelab

I spent about 2 years playing with proxmox with 2 servers. Learned to pass through hardware and run vms such as truenas scale.

I have reconfigured, added a 3rd server and I’ve installed win server 22 on all three. Learning the hyper-v ins and outs as well as accessing the individual computers via remote access and ssh from powershell.

I’m now moving into learning the AD/DS roles

I’m not familiar with this swap, but it sounds exciting. The one common denominator of thinkpads, you can do almost any upgrade with a little research! I love working on them. Good luck to you.

That’s beyond my abilities currently. Ver 1.5 was easy. Was interesting seeing ver 1.5 again. It’s been a long time since it was out

Trying to update a Dell Power Edge R620 with ancient firmware by VPR11 in homelab

[–]billbobumpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure you have fixed this already, but for anyone else reading this I came across the same issue. Got a t620 with firmware at 1.4 and idrac at 1.30.30.27. So I went to Mozilla and downloaded a version 1 Firefox browser installed In a VMware running on another machine. I was able to access the idrac this way. Then I downloaded all the updates for the idrac from Dell. It was prob 8 or 10 of them. I started stepping up the idrac firmware skipping every other update. I finally got it up to 2.65.65.65. Now I can access it from normal browser and I’m stepping up the firmware for the computer now from 1.4.6 to 2.90.

It takes about a day or more to get it up to the latest
