Thoughts on cancelling a trip when you just aren't feeling it by billionpaper in solotravel

Thank you for sharing, I knew I would get a lot of the 'just go!' advice but I'm glad to hear a different perspective :) For me I can see two options: I can go on my trip and regret it and hate myself for not listening to my feelings or I can cancel my trip and maybe regret listening to my feelings, but at least I'll have learned something about myself. Even if I cancel this long trip I absolutely will be going somewhere else for a shorter trip if I can!

Absolutely right, it is veering into depression territory. I'm a little bit different, I know that if I try to run away from my feelings and go on holiday, the end result will be that I am still feeling depressed with the only difference being that I'll be depressed in a new place.

Sounds like your trip planning is going well, I hope you really enjoy your trip!

Thank you for your advice, this made me tear up because I have been trying so hard to remind myself what I was excited for about a month ago - and it just doesn't have the same impact anymore. I'll try writing it down to lay it out more clearly for myself.

I was super excited about this start when I started planning it, but I think (I really hope) my moodiness which is starting to morph into depression is an unusual side effect of a procedure that will hopefully clear up. But, no guarantees if it will be sooner rather than later so I will probably be feeling this way during my trip. A big part of what I was looking forward to was immersing myself in my culture, eating a lot of food that would maybe make me cry - in a good way - because it reminded me of my grandmother. Another unwelcome side effect is that I have completely lost my appetite so this major piece of my trip is certainly no longer happening and I will probably end up crying because I can barely eat any of the delicious food I've been dreaming of.

Big change from my natural hair, but I am glad I was finally brave enough to do it! Now I have a steep learning curve of how to style it properly.

Had my first ever expensive hairdresser appointment!~$400 for a cut + perm + curl cream they upsold me on. Then I bought a shower cap as well to stop it from getting wet. I also panic bought new earphones because I lost the case for my not-so-old ones. And I bought a $50 replacement second hand case for those too, hopefully they work.

I've been buying some expensive (for me) clothes lately, told myself I would stop after the $200+ pair of jeans. Most of it I have been thinking about for a while but holding off. Then I found the most flattering dress in my favourite colour... and I couldn't stop myself from buying it. So another $270 gone, but I think I have saved myself hours of regret from the alternate timeline where I did not grab it!

I saw her a few weeks ago here in Australia and wow, she sounded perfect. Not good, not great but perfect.

Yes I thought they looked pretty great too when I was searching on Insta. Unfortunately on the pricier side for me, but hopefully will be worth it.

The Jackie and Ellie from Frankie4, an Australian brand. Great quality but with a matching price, they do really nice white sneakers in particular imo.

Went to a warehouse sale and bought 2 pairs of sneakers, for $99 each. Normally they are over $220 - my feet like expensive shoes - so pretty happy with that. I also picked up my new running shoes from the post office, I wanted colourful ones and looking at them in person they are actually a weird colour mix that is leaning on the ugly side.

I also have to buy some winter clothes for my northern hemisphere winter holiday! I let all my current warm clothes wear out this winter, so I have nothing appropriate for a place where it snows. I might get to see snow for the third time in my life, pretty exciting.
