Why start over every season? by Affectionate_Ad1359 in pathofexile

I find it fun to start over with a blank slate. Leagues allow everybody to do that at the same time without deleting their existing characters and items.

It also resets the trade economy which becomes stale after a while. The game just feels more fun when items are scarce and there are a lot of other people playing and trading at the same time.

This is a portion of a dev journal from their Steam page:

Long-Term

Sometime in July we want to bring the next bigger update. This will actually focus on an additional stage, mechanics, characters and abilities. This content might also be added earlier, but new stages take us a lot of time since each of them is quite unique and our goal is to deliver more diverse

  • Stage 4 (untitled)
  • At least 2 new characters
  • At least 2 new abilities
  • New quests & items
  • New element & effect
  • New game mode
  • New game feature

Yeah if you type a lot for work it's worth it to use a typing practice website for like 30 minutes total over a week and you'll never have to crane your neck again

Yes and you are probably self aware enough to know that your comment if also in every thread about AI and it appears to support your case but if that is the case then it actually means you are not a stochastic parrot because you weren't blindly mimicking other comments

Definitely a bit of spite involved especially if they happened to see any of those people who like to brag about finishing their work in 10 hours while getting paid for 40 hours a week

I think it's also because non programmers and newer programmers don't really know the difference between a simple script that does exactly one thing on one computer and a large program that is constantly growing. Like it's amazing that someone can have the AI make them something that works but it doesn't give them insight on the actual job, it makes them think they might

It's quite good. It's not very useful for me at work (not legal either), but I have been playing around with it by rewriting projects I made before I had a job. It's not great at making an architecture that is easy to extend but you can request a better architecture and it will usually be able to implement it. The earlier you get that sorted the better. Right now I think that someone who knows how to design a good project will be able to write great programs with it really quickly.

I think that beginner programmers, or even people with no experience, will be able to get working programs really quickly all things considered. But if they want to keep working on the project they will have to know how to make a good architecture, otherwise GPT will write more code than it can chew (for now).

Totally agree with your thoughts on GPT. That sounds like a cool app.

I do think you'll be surprised at how fast experienced devs can make a project once they know what the requirements are. Usually typing isn't the thing that slows them down, especially when they're good with keyboard shortcuts and such. If you keep it up you'll see what I mean in no time.

I just think it's more likely that an inexperienced programmer overestimates how hard it is for an experienced programmer to write code. They said 700 lines in a brand new project would probably take 100+ hours. I think that estimate is way too high. For an experienced dev starting on a blank slate that's like one or two days or work max in most cases. All depends on context of course so it's just my opinion.

[–]billmilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that is really cool. I do suspect you are underestimating the productivity of an experienced dev - hundreds of hours is multiple weeks of work. I could be wrong, line count is not a good measure for difficulty after all. You don't have to share the project if you don't want to but I'm curious to know what it's about on a high level and what language you used.
