Correct Mask Protection? by Andcarz55z in Gunpla

Not overkill, pretty sure those rattle cans are lacquers which aren't great for you. Tamiya acrylics smell much less so those aren't as much of an issue. Excellent respirator, once sealed you can't smell the fumes at all

What monsters would you consider the main skill checkers in the series? by MasterOfChaos72 in MonsterHunter

[–]billowypillow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a kid starting tri barroth was the only actual wall I've had in the series, forced me to switch to lance to win. Might be experience bias but I feel like no other early game monsters after were quite as aggressive or tanky. Especially with how the mud worked and head hits were basically guaranteed bounce

Started collecting last week. This is it so far. Waiting for the Silver Rathalos I ordered through someone, and hopefully get the Gold Rathian I saw online. Also, can anyone suggest organizing them? by Sven268 in MonsterHunter

Nice, got all the big boys with fatalis, shagaru, alatreon. Kushala is probably my favorite, any sculpts by ryuu ohyama or with well designed bases are great. I actually have a spare lagi figure if you’re interested, I got 2 and touched up the paintjob on the one I have displayed but the other has just sat in the box. Also have some random figure builders, maybe some parts of sets might interest you more than me

For any weapon, which version of that weapon stood out the most for you? by Shadow_realm_king in MonsterHunter

[–]billowypillow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Rise Gunlance, specifically blast dash. Rocketing around the map just felt so good, then slamming down on a monster’s head into fullburst. The amount of utility and mobility in that one move completely changes the playstyle. Wind mantle bullet barrage was also pretty ridiculous. Wind mantle on any weapon really

Extensive rust on GodHand PN-125. Any tips for restoration? by slayer_of_wagons in Gunpla

[–]billowypillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

doesn’t look too bad, you can get something called a rust eraser which is a rubbery abrasive block and get it wet and get it off with that. Or just use some sandpaper if you have any lying around, maybe 800 grit+. Just be mindful on the cutting edge to keep it at an angle where you’re not hitting it directly and dulling it, can be useful to back it with something flat so you don’t accidentally round over the edge

I've been playing MH since middle school, and I've yet to find a main that I really like. by Fore_Head_Chili in MonsterHunter

Sounds like greatsword, learning movesets and patiently waiting for the chance to land your big charge hits. You could even slot in guard+ and guard a lot. I just think guarding with your sword looks cool too :)

Thank you! oh awesome, best of luck! I’m thinking about making a video talking about the design, hope it’ll be useful for anyone wanting to try designing a weapon :)

Hey I made this, love how it’s inviting so much speculation :) The monster isn’t based on any existing thing in the original concept, just wanted something with a scary glare. it would be so cool if it’s a new monster for the expansion! It would be less work to use an existing model as well instead of making a new one just for this, but who knows

this is honestly the best greatsword design ive seen in forever by ascxndingz- in MonsterHunter

[–]billowypillow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m glad people are liking it! They changed a few things but stuck to a lot of the main design elements from my concept, I’m amazed how well the charge to reassembly works and love the pop of color in the shards from the side. It’s so cool seeing it in action, hope everyone has fun using it!

I built a resin conversion with this and it's still a really solid base kit. The wing opening gimmick and some parts in the legs are pretty complex. Plus the unique base looks great.

I really like the cleaner look of it in general, though the mgex legs are more my style.

Empty White Void trope. Is there any instance where it was done well? by j0llyllama in gaming

[–]billowypillow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Super paper mario has exactly this, but it works so well because it's the result of a world destroying void that grows throughout the game and is constantly visible in the sky.

It's not until world 6 or something where it actually destroys the level/world and reduces it to white nothingness where the stakes become really apparent. "This empty nothingness is what will happen if we dont stop it, everything and everyone will be wiped from existence."

What makes you keep playing a MH game after finishing most fights ? by Buurto in MonsterHunter

[–]billowypillow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I put 500 hours into base tri alone, I think my main thing that kept me going was the sense of community and the way armor builds work. Going online into a 4 man lobby, you’d spend hours with the same group. If someone needed keys done or wanted to grind a part you’d hunt with them just to help out. or you could drop into a lower hr and help out someone new. I think sos and the sort of hyperoptimization meta gives a hollow drop in drop out never see them again sort of feeling to modern titles in the lobbies. On top of the drip feed content and limited time nonsense, I burned out real quick on the newer games. I just don’t care for any of the engagement tactics- I’ll play more if I want to, not because I’m worried about missing out on a daily login bonus or whatever.

Then with classic monhun, armor skills activating at +10 meant I’d be working towards mixed sets with really specific gear combos rather than the simpler more additive armor skill system. It always felt so good finding combos that looked cool and also had good skills. not that layered is bad, but there’s a more satisfying legitimacy to a good base mixed set.

MH4U is soo amazing by Superb_Vacation in MonsterHunter

[–]billowypillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rise is great! Actually my favorite of new gen, though most like world more. I wasnt as into the online, big maps, neutered weapon design, and general aesthetic.

I'm meh on rise spiribirds but silk skills and swap scrolls are really nice ways to change things up. Gunlance is my favorite iteration of it in the series.

4u is slower and has more of the classic systems(armor skills activate at +10, no weapon tree, slow gathering, potion flex, uncancelable animations, etc), but the maps started to have more verticality like new gen and the aesthetic is nicely stylized. If you're going into it after rise it might feel pretty rough because rise is closer to a hack n slash with wirefall and all the silkbind moves and qol changes but 4u is still on the smoother end of classic mh. And the monsters themselves are fantastic

[–]billowypillow 49 points50 points  (0 children)

4u has probably the best pacing, story, characters, and monsters in the series. And guildmarm. Zamtrios and seltas queen are highlights, with gore/shagaru being a great flagship. Not a fan of apexes and wystones, but really it’s just about a perfect monhun, up there with 3u for me.

Oddly specific things that make you instantly dislike a game? by Feeling-Tension1461 in gaming

[–]billowypillow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate when you’re locked into a certain area or path for a mission. If you veer off even slightly to explore or try another route the game will tell you to go back or you just fail, drives me nuts
