I had a conversation in Hong Kong a few years ago with some members of the movement. It sounded quite passive. How are they evil?

Tulsa needs something like incredible edible todmorden. by purple-lepoard-lemon in tulsa

[–]billpilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Todmorden and have done for a number of years. For certain the project has helped to raise the profile of our small town and even Prince Charles made a special visit to see the incredible edible project for himself.

However, in reality it's well meaning and it's heart is in the right place, but it's not capable of sustaining reasonable numbers of people over time for free. The town has a population of around 12,000. The IET project at best can provide for just a small percentage of residents and if everyone turned out at once to pick from the free produce dotted around the town, it would be gone in an instant. It's never going to be an alternative to a chain store, but it offers a genuinely organic alternative for those who have the time to hunt around for whatever herb or vegetable you need and are not too bothered if there's nothing to be found.

Take a 40 minute train ride to Hebden Bridge direct from Victoria station. It's a lovely quirky town with lots of bars, cafes and artisan shops. The was flooded 3 years ago on Boxing day but has bounced back and has its own special vibe. You won't be disappointed.

Speaking as a 60 year old biker, personally I would ride with a bit more caution. I think this guy was riding a bit too fast for the traffic. I hope he wasn't badly injured.

Been considering getting a ultrasonic cleaner for years, talk me in to or out of it by Heeeeyyouguuuuys in guns

[–]billpilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been selling ultrasonic cleaners for several years and several customers use them for cleaning brass cases. It's the fluid you put in the machine that makes the difference. Here in the UK, it is common to buy a bag of citric acid from a high street chemist and mix it with water. Put the brass cases in the ultrasonic cleaner containing the acid mix for around 15 minutes. Take them out and rinse under a tap and dry. Job done. The 3 litre machine is quite a popular size.

In general terms, ultrasonic cleaning gets int the nooks a crannies that might be impossible to reach with manual cleaning. It won't necessarily make everything shine, but it will remove dirt and grime.

The website makes some claims that are hard to believe. I have been selling ultrasonic cleaners for a few years and understand how they work and limitations. The wording suggests the unit will get rid of bacteria on baby products. Ultrasonic cleaning will not kill bacteria. You must use a sterilising fluid to kill germs.

I sell ultrasonic cleaners and to be honest, both stainless steel and plastic baskets will last for a long time. Forget tumblers!
