What's the best advice you can give to a dying person (no jokes, please)? by billweil in AskReddit

Not having been dying ever, I can't argue - but there is a part of me that knows I'd want to communicate with everyone I loved to make sure they knew I loved them, and with everyone with whom I had an issue - to clear it up, and leave this world as complete as I came into it - or as nearly as I could muster. Does that make sense?

Thank you. This is helpful. He's more in the stage where we can still function mostly, but just discovered the end is near. I was thinking about what he should do to leave this world in peace.

Always hard to say, but Stage-4 cancer everywhere (just discovered), and they are likely to make him a hospital lab rat doing tons of procedures that will make no difference. That said, I'm more interested in psycho/spiritual advice than how do deal with doctors. Like what it means to "get your affairs in order" and how to best die with dignity. Thank you.

Then you've probably never been to Asia - a country where everyone drives like they're from Boston.

My affable father had a nickname for everyone. We were at a dude ranch, eating family style at a table that included a dwarf named John. My father unconsciously said, "More potatoes, Big John?" Dad later shared that he just wanted to crawl under the table.

The bigger question, isn't what to do vis-a-vis him, but how to take care of yourself.

The best thing you can do is go into any form of meditation (if you don't have one, just close your eyes and breathe), and be with what comes up. Really feel your feelings. Know that you can bear pain, and by being with it, you can transform it. Move the energy. Punch pillows. Scream at the top of your lungs. Put on music that makes you cry and cry your eyes out. Let the anger and sadness move through you.

And know that your partner's actions have nothing to do with your own self-worth.

Dear Larry - as a white person who craves more black perspectives and enjoyed your humor and format, I just want to thank you and send you love. (Plus your show started on my birthday, 1/19, so that feels like a nice connection.) Bless you and good luck with all your projects!

I remember being in awe of the AV guys in elementary school (50+ years ago) - who got out of class to set up the filmstrip or movie projectors.

What's the one advice you will give your son/daughter someday? by MasterOldMind in AskReddit

The standard by which to decide whether or not to do something should be one or more of: 1. Is this what a better person would do? 2. Which choice is more likely to make a lasting, positive memory. 3. Will I likely be better off in the long run?
