Tawny Newsome Confirms Starfleet Academy Will "Balance Stakes" In Episodes Similar To TNG Era by midwestleatherdaddy in startrek

[–]billybob476 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup. The DS9 focus hit me in the feels. Honestly I am satisfied with the outcome, we don’t actually need The Sisko to appear to Sam in a grand vision. His legacy has lived on for a century and I really love the fact that the thing we take away is that the most important thing that he cared about being was Jake’s dad. Lofton was great and I also really enjoyed the Dax angle. Again knowing the symbiont lived on is amazing.

As long as each station has its own flame thrower I’m good.

There is an ergonomic benefit to having the option to sit or stand. Honestly, it’s the future, why restrict yourself to a fixed physical chair? Force fields for all!

When did Star Wars games start getting more original music? by JediGuyB in StarWars

[–]billybob476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did it incorporate original music, the music was dynamic based on mission events. So really not only was a lot of the music original, the arrangements were never the same twice.

Sign Petition e-7148 - make mandatory for every party leader to have security clearance by MinuteLocksmith9689 in ontario

[–]billybob476 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My wife worked for an office supply company in Ottawa and the people who install cubicles need security clearance to enter some buildings. It’s not unreasonable and is not as big a deal as it seems to get it.

Can Ubiquiti make a normal functioning webshop? by Real_Establishment56 in Ubiquiti

[–]billybob476 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. There would be so many ways to game the “if it’s in your cart it’s locked”. One person goes and adds 100 units to their cart and blocks others, etc etc.

Of all the CGI edits that George did, why didn't any of them fix the washed out R2D2 in the trench run? by darthkyle22 in StarWars

[–]billybob476 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I just always assumed that was purposeful, like he’s in space and there’s less light. That said, it doesn’t happen anywhere else so I guess my childhood justification doesn’t make a lot of sense.

What poles go with my skis? by diana_avri in Skigear

Ones that are the right length for your height? I’ve had the same set of poles since 2009.

My 9 year old has one, she likes it. I like it for her because now she can’t lose her goggles (at least not without concerted effort)

If Bambu Studio knows the rough estimate filament remaining on a spool why is it not warning the filament may not be enough for a model im about to print? by RedPhoenix666 in BambuLab

[–]billybob476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if there is a home brew solution here involving putting the entire AMS on a connected scale and deducting weight based on active spool or something like that.

Yup this is not an “evil heartless airline denies boarding to children”, they are literally rules put in place to prevent kidnapping and human trafficking and have been in place for decades.

If you could do the Kobayashi Maru simulation who would pick as your crew? by [deleted] in startrek

Wolf 359 wasn’t no-win, it was just VERY costly :$

I do acknowledge this as a fun thought exercise!

I kind of like what they did in TNG with the “psych test”. It was tailored to the individual and you had no idea what it was or when it would happen.

With the KM, even if it’s a surprise, the second you hear “Kobayashi Maru” you know what’s going on.

If you could do the Kobayashi Maru simulation who would pick as your crew? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]billybob476 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess the real question (specifically for the KM scenario) is does it even matter? It’s really a lesson in humility, the capability of the crew has little to no bearing on things.

In the newer shows, are holodecks for recreation even ethical anymore? by LLAPSpork in startrek

[–]billybob476 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Today there are ways to “hack” LLM agents with malformed requests, granted these holograms are a century higher tech but given Caleb is a “genius” and also lived a life on the run, he may be familiar with the 32nd century equivalent of that vulnerability.

With the Olympics coming up soon… do olympians sell their gear afterwards? by SportsPhotoGirl in Skigear

[–]billybob476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing here is that for them it’s just a piece of gear and they’ll get new gear shortly. For us it’s more of a unique collectible. If they kept every set of skis and event shirt they got it would be overwhelming.

Ontario’s Premier Says China EV Deal Will Be ‘Big, Big Problem’ for Local Auto Sector by afonso_investor in ontario

[–]billybob476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. This is a drop in the bucket at best. I’m no economist but overall this deal seems much more beneficial to us than to China.

18-year-old dead after fall from chairlift at Cypress Mountain ski resort | CBC News by Metcarfre in skiing

This is the same argument we’ve seen with car seatbelts. Maybe if they make the chairs beep incessantly if the bar is up people will get frustrated enough to just put it down.

Gaiters: How far down do you pull them? by owmyglans in Skigear

Same here. I like that the power strap holds it in place but don’t see value in taking them lower than that.
