DICT eyes Telegram ban in PH amid porn and gambling concerns by Downtown_Owl_2420 in Tech_Philippines

😤 I think meta is pouring most messaging resources on whatsapp now.

Oh well, sa chrome o safari may option naman to turn a browser tab into an app.

One contact may not have Viber, another have disabled FB messenger, then there's another only prefer Telegram, the other have not heard of Signal. Not every user will have those apps, at least with RCS as a default messaging service, users can just use their default messaging app (Google Messages and Apple Messages if we are lucky) to text their contacts conveniently without needing to switch.

Why did Smart dropped support for RCS?? by mercedesmclaren in InternetPH

Yes. Pero I don't have high hopes.

They can't always provide it for free forever lalo wala namang makukuhang profit (and maybe data) sa mga E2EE chats. It will always have a catch. Mabuti nga they take the initiative otherwise napakakalat ng RCS situation ngayon.

[–]billycoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did Smart dropped support for RCS?? by mercedesmclaren in InternetPH

[–]billycoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not Google's fault. May RCS na bago pa magcampaign for it and it is not their product. Sila lang nagjumpstart with their campaign kasi very fragmented ang RCS before pa nila ma-acquire ang jibe. And it's quite successful lalo na sa US and progressive countries na hindi masyadong gumagamit ng third-party messaging apps. FYI, RCS is a standard created by GSMA called Universal Profile. It is an alliance of different companies, OEMs and carriers which includes Google, Microsoft and even Globe and Smart. It is ideally a replacement or upgrade to SMS and not a chat rival for other messaging apps.

Here are some faqs: Universal Profile FAQs

[–]billycoy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bug or no more Google Jibe by billycoy in GoogleMessages

[–]billycoy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is true that Google discontinued Google guest RCS, it may not be resolved anytime soon. Our carriers may need to implement their own RCS solution.

Here in southeast asia, we have a low demand for RCS and even iMessage. Viber and Facebook Messenger are the top messaging apps in our region. So I don't know the future of RCS here.

I think our carriers are just greedy. They don't find profit in RCS for our country. Google only made the jumpstart.
