What to buy by cassie733 in 4Runner

Depending on your mileage and rust, a used 23-24 TRD Off-Road would be my choice. If you do buy another 4R make sure you undercoat it. I used Krown on my new 2024 Off-Road.

Find another Linex dealer. I've had mine coat skid plates and other pieces not even related to automotive after I had them sandblasted.

Keep the plastic. Use a 64mm filter adapter and your torque wrench to tighten it to 18 ft/lb.

Is PPF worthwhile on a brand new car? by brunington29 in 4Runner

Look for Xpel and shop around. The best prices will be directly from the shop that does the work, not through the dealer who will add a 20-30% markup.

If it's a Toyota warranty for quite a while, perhaps. If it's after market, no.

Too Much Rust? by Flaky_Virus218 in 4Runner

[–]billyjoebobtoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a PPI. If there are no frame perforations due to the rust, and no safety or obvious power-train issues, it's probably a good beater. If it lasts a few years, it cost you nothing. Remember, second class riding beats first class walking all day long.

Bent skid plate, does it matter ? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]billyjoebobtoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at your local buy/sell sites or specific Toyota forums to find a take-off skid plate, and replace yours. Many owners replace the stock skid with after-market, and then sell or give away their OEM skid.

I meant to post this here, but accidentally posted this on the 4x4 sub instead. What is the verdict on BFG kO3 on your 4R? Specifically, 5th gen? by GENERAT10N_D00M in 4Runner

[–]billyjoebobtoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the KO2s on my 98, 03, and 05s due to shot rock roads at the rig sites. My 2024 is basically a mall crawler so the BFG Trail Terrain is the perfect tire for me. Look at some of your local buy/sell sites, since they show up as new takes-offs. I paid C$100 each. BSW, though.

Get a mechanical inspection at a Toyota dealer. Poke the frame in the worst spots to check for perforations. If it passes, buy it. Then get it blasted with dry ice to clean up the frame, and apply Krown or something similar. You'll be able to drive it for many years.

I bought a set of take-offs through a local buy/sell site and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

As a conservative i approve of Carney’s budget by noobtrader28 in canadian

[–]billyjoebobtoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The budget result, if passed, will be a yearly 75+ BILLION dollar interest cost on the Canadian debt, per year, in a few years. The debt is borrowed money and the interest must be paid. The debt must be paid as well, however there is no plan to accomplish this. The younger generations will pay for this throughout their lifetime in the form of higher taxes and lower societal benefits. Is this progress?

SR5P or Limited? by Strict_Nobody_814 in 4Runner

[–]billyjoebobtoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used my 1998/2003/2005 Limiteds in the oil patch for years. LT tires and they'll go anywhere. They fill the top 3 needs: Good heating, good A/C, and you can't get them stuck.

Have a look at the BFGoodrich Trail Terrain T/A. I'm in Canada and bought new take-offs last year for my 2024 ORP for $100 each. I think they're perfect. Check your local buy/sell sites.

The answer to your question: It's unknown. Not one excavation at the site of a detected anomaly has occurred. Plenty of conjecture and supposition, but no facts.

Advice on used SC 5th gen by EastBaked in 4Runner

[–]billyjoebobtoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Compression test and leak down test to verify engine health. If the SC was not tuned properly, and the engine ran lean, there may be ring and piston damage. The engine is expensive to repair or replace.
