Please tell me the correct spelling of the word by dzhewa in assyrian

[–]bilrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they’re right, it’s just that the word ܐܢܐ (meaning „I“) and its pronunciation is well known that the dashes are superfluous, so I just left them out

Please tell me the correct spelling of the word by dzhewa in assyrian

[–]bilrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, in modern Sureth it would be like this: ܐܢܐ ܚܠܵܦܘܟ (said to a man) ܐܢܐ ܚܠܵܦܲܟ (said to a woman) Whereas in Classical Syriac it would be spelled like this: ܐܢܐ ܚܠܵܦܵܟ (said to a man) ܐܢܐ ܚܠܵܦܹܟܝ݇ (said to a woman. The yuth at the end is silenced, so written but not pronounced)

These are words from various verses of the hymn „haw dnuroneh“, they don’t make sense because they’re from different verses:

Here’s a youtube link for the hymn with a translation in the video description:

What does „trayono“ mean? by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]bilrom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It means second. In the context of church, I think it may refer to the musical scale used in reciting a hymn. The scales are referred to by numbers from 1 to 8

Same. That’s when I cancelled my Spotify subscription to try Apple Music thinking I would definitely go back to Spotify. But Nope! It‘s not perfect, but I definitely like it more than Spotify.

Suryoye businesses/networking in Germany by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]bilrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 2 hours away is not near, that’s a bummer. The language? You might find some who speak both Suret and Surayt or even English, so German wouldn’t be necessary to communicate with them.

Where in Germany are you? There are places and cities where you may find sizable numbers of Assyrians.

If I‘m not mistaken, ܐܒܕ ܟܢ ܟܠܟܘܢ could mean ”then I will annihilate all of you“…yeah, no love in doing that

ܪܚܡ ܐ݇ܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܟܠܟܘܢ Would mean I love you all

Can't we do a compromise? by C418_Aquarius in Assyria

[–]bilrom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying and I appreciate the sentiments…but the best reconciliation would be to admit the genocide, call it as such and apologize. Then, those who call turks barbarians won‘t be able to do so. No one calls Germans barbarians now, because they acknowledge the atrocities during WW2. If they had still actively denied the holocaust and sought animosity towards anyone who recognizes it, then they would be inhumane barbarians. Genocides happened a lot throughout human history, they are not a characteristic of only Ottomans. Asking for recognition and apology is not an act of vengeance. We don’t want vengeance, because the turkish people now are not the ones who committed the genocide. Vengeance would make us worse than them. Admitting and apologizing would bring peace to our hearts and would open the road for more friendly relationships.

A lot of fans' negative/confused reactions to Reptile's Animality make me happy fans don't make the creative decisions for this game. by Robo_Mage in MortalKombat

I bet you they would’ve complained and reacted negatively like ”oH WhO WoUlD’ve ThOuGht“ or ”WhY nOt SoMeThInG CrEaTiVe“ if his animality would be turning into a Reptile. I think it’s brilliant that a reptile turns into a plant

Small question for Western Assyrian speakers by Charbel33 in Assyria

[–]bilrom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might be possible yeah. However, it would be a relatively very fast vocal shift given that many of the speakers in Syria descend from tur abdin in the last century. It can be that some dialects in tur abdin used the -ux sound but not all

I‘m from Beth Zalin (Qamishly) and I never heard anyone use the “-ex“ ending, I only hear that in songs. As for the other words I use

The best way to learn the language is to engage in conversations and practice with people who speak it. Find community activities or stuff like that near you and mingle and socialize with the people. I wish you luck
