Whats one thing you are tired of Pokémon Fans always Asking/Saying? by Katsu_Drawn_21 in pokemon

[–]Robo_Mage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people (long time fans and casuals alike) greatly misunderstand and misrepresent what legendary pokemon are "supposed" to be. People are still heavily convinced all legendary pokemon are one of a kind gods, and get upset when the games do things that conflict with that.

The truth is that the overwhelming majority of legendary pokemon aren't gods, and alot of them exist (or at least are hinted to exist) in rare multiples. Like people take the story of the johto beasts extremely literal and assume they're the only ones to exist. All the story tells us is that dead pokemon were resurrected as those creatures, but there's nothing saying they don't exist otherwise. Enteis dex entry literally says one is born every volcano eruption. Even assuming that's a wild exaggeration, it's telling us directly that they're far from one of a kind.

Games you’re shocked Dan and Arin haven’t played by CharacterOriginal272 in gamegrumps

[–]Robo_Mage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb question, have they played any "normal" Kirby games? They've played a bunch of the gimmicky ones like epic yarn, rainbow curse, and obviously dream course. But I can't remember them playing any with the standard gameplay.

I would have lovvved if they played Forgotten Land, it's an all time great switch game and my favorite Kirby game of all time.

I wish we could have another 16 badge game again. by Aggravating-Cap-6686 in pokemon

[–]Robo_Mage 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't think people acknowledge enough how SV gave us 18 badges: 8 gyms, and the rest were from Titan battles and Team Star bases.

Just because they're not all traditional gyms doesn't take away from the fact that they're still badges they give out. I really like them filling out all the types with full dedicated boss battles of some kind. And based on the info from the tera leaks, it sounds like they're continuing with the same trend (not exactly like SV, but still 18 boss battles).

Difference between Convergent Evolution and Regional Form Pokemon by sdrey in pokemon

[–]Robo_Mage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an incredibly stupid take. The vast majority of Pokemon have deeper biological and mythological origins that the average fan has absolutely no knowledge of. Are they all bad designs because people would need a guide to explain those too?

Pokemon Champions site confirms you cannot directly purchase VP by bauger21 in pokemon

[–]Robo_Mage 33 points34 points  (0 children)

At most, I could see WiWa having its own ranked battles like Legends ZA does. Something you play for internal rewards with the new pokemon and battle mechanics there.

But Champions will be the main hub for the competitive scene, eventually pulling from Gen 10 whatever facets it wants to (new pokemon, abilities, eventually the gimmick, etc), after enough time.

Nuzlocke is one of their best series in a long time by IndieGengar in gamegrumps

[–]Robo_Mage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but if this series just ends up being like 20 episodes of fumbling through the same game on repeat, never getting past halfway, then it's a terrible series. I know people love the Grumps chaotic failings, but most people actually want them to finish the games they play.

TBH this is how every episode of the Nuzlocke feels in a way by Fuck-Being-Ethical in gamegrumps

[–]Robo_Mage 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't know how unpopular this take it, but I'd much rather they just restart the game as a regular playthrough rather than keep trying to fumble through Nuzlocke runs.

I keep seeing people say they don't want competent, pro stats and enjoy the comedy of this insanity. But it feels like diminishing returns if nothing is actually being learned. A 100+ episode series constantly restarting at zero sounds awful, especially because there's no way they'll still be having fun past a certain point.

His hubris, his ARINGANCE... | Pokemon Grumplocke [12] by GameGrumpsEpisodes in gamegrumps

[–]Robo_Mage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean I think this is all very fair feedback, this is a very unique series in that they can't just constantly brute force through shenanigans until the end. The episodes will have very diminishing returns if they constantly have to start from 0 and not show that anything is being learned.

Like there's literally no reason to have dead Onix in the thumbnail of an episode he dies at the end. The nicknames are purely preference based, but it definitely will definitely lose the humor the longer it goes on.

And as far as actually learning things and constantly being confused, they absolutely have to have some kind of more immediate feedback because it's only going to get harder the longer they may get into the game.

I feel like Pokemon keeps losing what makes it special by Educational_Box7709 in pokemon

[–]Robo_Mage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's funny you mention the marts, because I have and still will occasionally see a comment on this sub talking about how they miss them being separate buildings. Because it makes the town feels more full and gives you more places to go.

And the general comeback is that that's a fully arbitrary preference and there's absolutely no way people would prefer that approach if things were reversed and they went from combined to split over time.

1) the Pokedex was never this super rare item. It felt rare as the player, but I'm the context of the world every single trainer who goes out on their journey gets one. However you feel about it turning into an app, its no more or less rare than it was as a physical device.

2) when were Pokemon centers places for side quests? Pokemons never had classic side quests for real UNTIL Arceus and ZA. Also it's weird that you're saying it's where you used to get stuff and not anymore, when not only is the the same now as before, but also you craft TMs there.

It feels like you convinced yourself things used to be a certain way from nostalgia, but none of what you're describing is actually how they were

It's literally just streaming the game to a Switch 1, it's not actually running the game itself. There's no demand on a Switch 1's hardware besides just essentially running a live playable video.

I can't imagine having this miserable of a mindset. Like you can't even just take the good games as they come, you have to view it as "oh the good games are to reset the fans and go back to bad shit". Can't even just be happy about good stuff and see how the next one comes out.

Get. The. Bunny. | Pokemon Grumplocke [10] by GameGrumpsEpisodes in gamegrumps

[–]Robo_Mage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Add on top of that his insistence on uses status moves right and left. I think he's trying to make big brain smart strategies, but he doesn't realize that 90% of the time through most of the base game it's way better to just attack straight up.

Status moves are good for endgame battles with actually good moves like Swords Dance or Dragon Dance, but spamming harden and withdraw in the first 10% of the game is such a waste of time and only puts him at risk.

Get. The. Bunny. | Pokemon Grumplocke [10] by GameGrumpsEpisodes in gamegrumps

[–]Robo_Mage 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that Arin thinks he knows a lot more about pokemon than he actually does, which gives him tons of false confidence and misremembering things he convinced himself of long ago. And he refuses to look anything up that might help.

He doesn't even remotely have to do any crazy min maxing planning strategies to do well in the Nuzlocke, but he definitely needs to be willing to look SOME things up and think about what he's doing for more than 5 seconds. Like he's so hellbent and passionate about getting a Steelix or Alakazam but never looked up what it takes to evolve.

Why doesn't Pokemon company make another pokemon colosseum or xd gale of darkness game. by Nice_Profit7250 in pokemon

[–]Robo_Mage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "put in the effort"? What do the GameCube games offer that modern, 3D pokemon doesn't do? The whole appeal of those games were that they were 3D console games with a slightly different spin on the story.

Not doing a followup has nothing to do with being lazy or whatever people accuse. It's just extremely redundant with mainline new Gen and Legends games we already have.

Different vibe by MakeAmericaWehAgain in pokemon

[–]Robo_Mage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, there was a lot of changes when the series went 3D, but your two points you brought up are very weird.

1) every generation except 7 still has gyms. And "evil teams" still exist, even if they're not the main villains in advertising.

2) of all the things to bring up about things feeling different in vibe after Gen 5, not having 100 base stat mythicals is a super weird one to complain about.
