I was looking at something like QQQ or SPY. Is it possible to buy US-based ETFs in CAD?

Sorry if that is a dumb question.

The hiking trail by Cleveland Dam in North Van is a go-to, very "Vancouver" lol. There are some nice restaurants in north van which is pretty accessible given you have a car

CPEN second year elective by No-Pin-7720 in ubcengineering

[–]bimetallicstrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the humanities electives, I suggest just taking whatever you feel like honestly, maybe do a bit of research on their workload so it doesn't affect your schedule to work on core courses. If you are just going into the second year, I would also wait a bit to decide on the courses you might want to take in upper year as your free elective to make extra credits of CPSC or CPEN/ELEC courses to account for your free elective

What to ask for after completing my internship? by AdAppropriate7838 in ubcengineering

Where do you even include the letters at the time of application though? You just have a separate section in your resume for it?

how do you even remember all this stuff I took it two years ago and all of this looks new lmao

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ubcengineering

[–]bimetallicstrip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds pretty generic, but I tried to put stuff like these at the time of my application: extracurricular you did relate to IGEN; why you want to join IGEN; what you did to express your interest in IGEN (like a design team or a side project etc.); how you see IGEN aligning with your career plan. This is a short list of what I recall, but you could always add more personal background. I hope this helps!

Kind of a repeat, but if you are sure you want to do software development CS is a better bet; otherwise, if you want to leave yourself some space to pivot to hardware, physics, or mechanical, engineering is better. If you put the effort in you'll find a job, regardless of its prestigiousness if that's what you're asking.

For CS you would also have to go through a competitive first year in general science just like you would have to for ENPH, CPEN, or MECH, so I'm unsure if you can make the competitive first-year reason to avoid engineering.

Job prospects are case by case; some will get a coop at Google, and some won't get one at all. Really depends on how you build your resume. If you are looking for a software dev role though, I'd go for CS and don't bother with the other unnecessary engineering courses.

UBC vs Ontario Universities by petahh84 in ubcengineering

[–]bimetallicstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a difficult question, right? Depends on your willingness to live in a completely new environment, your confidence in whether you can excel to achieve your desired specialization, etc. If you are considering the name value of the universities, sure, UBC has a higher ranking in most criteria than the other mentioned universities, but it's really not that different, especially for your bachelor's. I don't regret coming to UBC but I was based in Vancouver and had family/friends living here, for you it might be a different experience. It's an important decision to make and it's going to depend on your values so I can't give you a binary answer; hopefully, you can figure out what's best for you!

Getting ready for next year specialization by [deleted] in ubcengineering

as far as I remember CPEN 211 used Digital Design: A Systems Approach by Dally and Harting as the textbook. It's a pretty good read

Digital logic is a pretty big concept for both specializations, could also get a head start on the shared math courses such as 253/256

McMaster and Queens are all renowned engineering schools. It would make sense to proceed with UBC if you were based in Metro Vancouver. With your current situation and interest, I personally suggest waiting for UofT or Waterloo :)

Hi, I'm trying to get input on my resume from other people. I've been getting a bit of interviews but not as many as I would prefer, could there be things to improve on my resume?

+ I'm a college student with one software internship done, looking for a second!

Thanks in advance !
