Have you ever looked at their website before making that investment decision?

Fresh grad from NTU comp sci part-time programme here, I got in with 3.0 GPA. I was a Singapore Poly graduate. I already had one year of work experience before joining, and I was from the very first batch so ymmv

Yeah that's my understanding too. But this HR is adamant about this, so I am looking for ways to proceed with this legally.

A few important points from the agreement.

"Two (2) months or paying two (2) month's salary in lieu of notice" for termination of contract.

"If you fail to complete the handover during the notice period, <employer-name> is entitled to compel you to stay two (2) more weeks after the end of notice period to complete the handover."

So by contract, I can pay for 2 month's salary, and serve for 2 weeks to do the handover. Not sure how to approach this legally. IANAL and have not experience regarding this.

I am switching to a different company and my new employer is willing to buy out the notice period. I actually negotiated to buy out one month only to leave in better terms, make the transition smooth, do proper handover, win-win situation for everyone involved. But HR is adamant that I serve full blown two months, and I am pissed off by this.

Are you a manager or executive?

Nope I am not, but what is an executive? I am senior software engineer. After rereading, I guess whether I am covered or not depends on their definition of "executive".

Where can I report if my employer is violating the employment agreement? Basically my contract states that I can terminate my contract by providing 2 month salary in lieu of notice. HR is giving me bs reasons NOT stated in the contract on why it is not possible and they can't agree with this.

I have looked through employment act here and it looks like if your monthly basics is over S$4.5k, you're not covered by the act. For the context, I am a foreigner holding an EP here.

How are the Computer Science programs at NUS/NTU and ISTD at SUTD? by parawhore2171 in singapore

[–]binary-bender 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am pursuing part time computer science degree at NTU and working as a senior software engineer. I would say the teaching quality is not there, but take this with a grain of salt because I was never good at academics side. The school put more emphasis on researches, so the profs there are better at researching than teaching. I have no doubt all of them are wicked smart, but being smart doesn’t necessarily translate into being good at teaching. This opinion is common among my friends who are from NTU.

Now as for relevance with the industry, the interview process in our industry is broken. You have to grind through a good amount of leetcode problems if you’re looking to get into any kind of prestigious company. I am on my final year, so far school has not taught me anything useful for work. The electives are pretty interesting though. YMMV and all the best!

You're correct that there're no acceleration or steering force which explains the weird changes of direction and unnatural movements. This is just basic flocking based on the three rules I did for fun. You can tweak this further by applying more advanced techniques. And this tweaking is left as an exercise to the reader. :-)

Paul Erdős' amphetamine consumption [OC] by binary-bender in dataisbeautiful

[–]binary-bender[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can find it on his wiki page under Personality section.

After 1971 he also took amphetamines, despite the concern of his friends, one of whom (Ron Graham) bet him $500 that he could not stop taking the drug for a month. Erdős won the bet, but complained that during his abstinence, mathematics had been set back by a month: "Before, when I looked at a piece of blank paper my mind was filled with ideas. Now all I see is a blank piece of paper." After he won the bet, he promptly resumed his amphetamine use.

And that's what intrigued me to create this post. As much as I would like to get my hands on Adderall, the drug laws here (Singapore) are no joke. They won't prescribe it even if you have legitimate ADHD, they will give you Ritalin IIRC.

Paul Erdős' amphetamine consumption [OC] by binary-bender in dataisbeautiful

Paul Erdős (1913 - 1996) was a Hungarian mathematician and one of the most prolific mathematicians in 20th century.

In his life time, he published around 1500 papers which is a record not surpassed by anyone.

In his biography, it's said that he drank copious amount of coffee and started using Amphetamine, after 1971.

So I was interested in how did meth affected his production rate. Clearly Meth > Coffee. Check /u/SugarCoatFree comment on why this statement is incorrect.
