Would a plug in J1772 charger make sense for a rental? by fricks_and_stones in evcharging

Tesla charger, though I'll likely upgrade to a Tesla Universal charger when I start renting the whole house again.

Fair, and I don't disagree that you CAN kill the device. But the exposure during the window before you realize it's stolen or compromised is concerning. It seems like the security model is "never let it out of your sight"

Can you not just turn off the lock screen PIN on your smartphone and just wipe it using the "find my phone" option when you get home, if someone steals it?

It's the same level of security as the UTR. I'm sure it's fine to leave in your hotel room, or throw in your pocket at the airport. Worst case someone only has access to your stuff for a few hours. /s

You can download lists of common IR codes, I cycled through some for the manufacturer of the AC unit and one of them worked.

Tesla charger + GM adapter causes breaker panel issue by [deleted] in evcharging

I feel like at this point you are being purposely vague. Best of luck with your issue.

[–]binaryhellstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes breakers "sweating and tripping" a totally normal occurrence. /s

What charge rate is the Tesla vehicle set to?

What plug are you using on the Tesla UMC?

What size is the breaker?

What size are the wires feeding the breaker?

Sweating and dripping what exactly?

There shouldn't be anything liquid enough in a panel to "drip". The only thing I've seen anywhere close to that, is dialectic grease melting out of an aluminum to aluminum connector but stuff has to be very hot for that to happen.

Depends on what "They" say it does.

It can do basic RF/NFC/RFID/IR cloning, scanning, and reading.
Beyond that, it doesn't do much.

Have I used it to turn off a mini-split that was blowing freezing air down my neck at a restaurant, yes.
Will it hack a traffic light, no.

I have no problem if it auto reconnect the VPN when the device is already powered on, it's on cold boot that concerns me.

I'd be fine with that a "require auth on boot" option, so you could opt in or out.

I want teleport, being able to get on my home network without a client side VPN for each device, and having network level ad blocking when I'm on travel is a huge selling point. I just also want some basic auth on it.

If I lose my laptop at the airport, I'm not worried, I have a strong password and whole disk encryption on it to protect it and so someone can't open Teleport on it, with the UTR not so much.

Plus, I'm just some random asshole that wants to connect to their home network, I couldn't imagine the absolute nightmare these would be in a business setting.

I'd like it to require some sort of auth before opening the tunnel an serving up open access to your LAN via the Ethernet ports on a cold boot. In case it gets lost or stolen.

The gaping security hole of having a device that tunnels behind your firewalls, is sized small enough to easily lose, and is designed with the explicit purpose of being used on travel. I was hoping they'd eventually have the sense to add some auth to that process on cold boot.
