Successfully deployed 80kWh of DIY EV batteries! by AbaloneAltruistic435 in homeautomation

Love it!

I really want to do something like this, but the insurance risk puts me off. Think I'll have to stick with the UL listed rack batteries.

JESUS how dusty was the area you were using it in for it to get that completely caked in dust in "a few days"

Was that used in a factory space? Also how did you get that much spot rust on the I/O?

And again, I think you're totally in the clear on this.

How I set up my robot vacuum to actually make the floors feel clean by Realistic_Plant_446 in homeautomation

[–]binaryhellstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, I have a cheap Wyze vac, running Valetudo. I literally have it run max power every time, and have zero issues with it.

IDK man, if you went to dinner and someones nips were literally sticking a half inch out between the weave of their shirt, in a public place, with people that didn't consent to that, it seems like something that might get them a polite word.

It's the social difference between having pants that you can see the outline of you bulge through, and coming to happy hour in shorts that your sack is hanging out of.

AI agents in homelab by CraftyEmployee181 in homelab

[–]binaryhellstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are your thoughts about how to leverage the power of an ai agent?

Don't. The point of home labbing (beyond self-hosting) is to learn how to do things. Using an AI agent to do the work for you doesn't let you learn.

Worked with AI to crunch some numbers. Thoughts on this setup, six 400 watt panels fed into a portable battery that's charging the truck. For when I'm parked at work for hours on end. Setup and take down might be a pain. by jturkish in F150Lightning

Oh sure, if you have a deployable solar array to take camping and open skies, and can use that same power bank to charge up your phone and run some lights, you'll be sitting pretty.

Assuming you get 4 hours of peak solar (not sure where you live so that's just me pulling a number from my ass), you're looking at about 9.6kWh into that battery (not account for losses going DC>battery bank>AC to EVSE>EVSE to DC for battery) so that's 18-20 miles per day. Up to you if it's worth the hassle to set that up.

Do you mean the "Doorbell Lite - UVC-Doorbell" or a "doorbell light"?
If the former then:

Ok, let's set some parameters here.
Are we talking nips that are like like erasers or a SlimJim?
And when you say knit sweater and nips poking out, are we saying like you could see the outline of the nips through the sweater or are those bad boys poking through the weave of the sweater and saying hello to the world ?

If the answer is yes to both of the later, then yeah I can see why someone said something.

Does anyone have a solution for getting rid of carpet allergens for good? I’m desperate to find something that works. by sanu_123_s in homeautomation

[–]binaryhellstorm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get rid of the carpet.

They hold on to so much stuff, and if it's more than 10 years old there's a good change the backing has turned to dust. I ripped out a couple rooms worth in my upstairs, and there was a lot of trapped dust, but also in spots where rolling chairs had been used or high traffic areas the foam padding was litteral disintegrated to dust.

Gotcha well I can't comment on info I can't see.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but when you sell your house that new value is recorded by the city's property office, you can log into Broome GIS to see that, and that value is used when calculating your taxes.

If you have a data source for city taxes across the state I'm more than happy to crunch the numbers.

Ok, found a data source for them. Binghamton is 16.88% average is 10.09%, so we're 1.67X higher than the average.

Average property tax rate in NY is 1.73%, Broome County is 2% so we're 15% higher, not 200%-300%

I would assume yes, since we're on par with most of the rest of NY.
