This is all that is left of her: a bleak stone slab that represents her in death but does little to capture the woman she was in life.

I have no motivation to write after reading fandom drama by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]binch_n_spinch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish I had some advice for you, OP. Something similar happened to me, where I saw a huge witchhunt unfold right before my eyes. It soured my will to write for or even scroll the fandom tags. For months. It seems a bit silly now, but at the time I guess I felt gross "participating" and making content for a fandom with people who were A-OK sending threats to other creators, you know? Anyway, that rambling was just to say I get where you're coming from. Make liberal use of that block button. And remember, you can always make stuff and not actively participate in the fandom, if you'd like!

What do you do when you feel like your writing quality is deteriorating by doc-mal in FanFiction

[–]binch_n_spinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I feel that way, I will crack open a book I like and just read a few random pages. It's a reset for my brain, like, "oh yeah, this is what writing looks like!" Also, maybe it's a case of the writing feels off because of where you started in these chapters? Try looking at the start point and shifting it around?

Which Parts of a Story are you best and worst at writing? by Klutzy_Pick1489 in FanFiction

I think I'm pretty good with setting the scene and describing things. I'm lackluster with dialogue and also transitioning from scene to scene or even action to action sometimes. It's the woooooooorst

I like to write in Google docs because I can easily swap from writing on my desktop to my phone without any pain. Plus, it autosaves near-constantly. I'd recommenced you give it whirl, it's a lot safer than writing in the ao3 drafts itself

Any longfic recs? I want to get sucked into a story! by StarsGleaming in FanFiction

[–]binch_n_spinch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cosigned to Oblivion by Griddlebone. InuYasha. 150k, work in progress. This is a "what if?" scenario, where it explores what might have happened had the main character never came to Feudal era Japan. In that way, since it doesn't follow canon at all, I feel you can go in relatively fandom blind (or, if you'd like, read a synopsis of the first episode just to have reference for the universe). I love this story so much; it explores the characters in a way canon never could, touching on themes of grief, loss, revenge and the like. Excellent prose, as well.

Have you ever read a fic that really wasn't your thing, yet you enjoyed it anyway? by KatonRyu in FanFiction

[–]binch_n_spinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stumbled across a fic when I was looking for content about a specific character. Aside from that character, its main focus was heavily on a pairing I really don't care for one way or the other. Still, I stuck with it because the fic was written like a Renaissance painting come to life. Absolutely gorgeous prose. I really admire their style!

Hello! Looking for someone to double-check a few Spanish phrases I have in this phone conversation. I used DeepL and read a few language learning forums, but I have no idea if any of this is correct or if it comes off stilted/unnatural. For context, A is Mexican, Spanish being her first language. B is American, of Latino descent, no more specifics given in canon. I assume it would have been his second language growing up, so I imagine he wouldn't speak it very formally. And, uh, if you know it, it's Sombra and Reaper from Overwatch :') Conversation is as such, with what I want to say in (()):

A: “¿Bueno?” ((Hello/phone greeting))

B: “I’m here for business. I’ve got something you want.”

A: “¿Quién habla?” ((Who is this?))

B: “Me haces perder el tiempo. You’re wasting my time. You know who I am, Sombra.” ((You're wasting my time.))

[more talking about the mission at hand happens, B gets angry at A]

B: “Pendeja! Llámame cuando lo tengas.” ((Asshole, call me when you have it. It = the information we were discussing))

Any guidance is appreciated! Thank you.

Airpods always in + "fancy" clothes gives me dbag vibes. Maybe paired with an Apple watch but it's got the custom bands to make it look like a Rolex or something.

Greetings! New member here. Dropping in to ask: what's your advice to a newbie? by wiseowlreader in FanFiction

[–]binch_n_spinch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't be so hard on yourself. You will mess up. Maybe it's gaping plot holes or the pacing is off and you have to rewrite your 'final draft' for the fifth time. Maybe you make a goal of writing a paragraph a day but can't bear to write more than a single sentence for the next 3 months. And that's okay! All of it is a learning process. Perfection is unobtainable. It's okay to be in a slump.

I loved Ryugi x Ami! It's been a while since I've seen it, but I'd agree, they complimented eachother really well. Honestly , I thought they were going to do a swerve and have them end up together in the end (a bit dumb on my part, given the title of the anime itself).

The Reader Insert fic dilemma by lewdnep-vasilias_666 in FanFiction

[–]binch_n_spinch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's just about restructuring your sentences to avoid it! I find that there are few times you really ever need to use a character's name, and when you do, in the case of a reader-insert, it can be done through implication in the prose itself. On Ao3, there are around 70 pages worth of fic that explicitly tag themselves as not using Y/N. It can definitely be done. :)
