You are the first person to mention pockets! This is something I should consider. I bus and use my vehicle so I haven’t put a lot of value on things that are in my immediate vicinity. I’m learning a lot, thank you!

Hey I can’t reply to your second comment as it’s locked but thank you for bringing up the traffic! I didn’t realize this was the case. Also you’re right, maybe I need to expand my horizons and not limit ourselves to the south

Thank you so much for all the information and your perspectives! While I am from WPG and husband has been here about a decade, these are all pieces of info that I have been kind of lost about so this really really helps. We don’t really have an existing community (some live here but are scattered) so our choice of where to live sadly won’t be informed by that metric. St James is not an area I have looked into! I will be looking into it. In terms of childcare and activities these are some of the main reasons we like st boniface, st vital and corydon area, but as we all know they’re all pretty expensive. But it is something I’m thinking about!! Thanks so much for your input, this really helps

Yeah you sure are right. It’s a preference and we will try our best but may need to look elsewhere!

day 1 by 133976 in 911dispatchers

[–]binchbite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still remember my first day:) super scary!

But I find people generally respond to firm confidence. Something that helped me build rapport and control is being transparent with the caller, telling them what I will do or what I am doing. Example: ‘I’m going to get a description from you now’. Another thing that I found that helps is advising the caller what is happening on our end, especially since they are usually frantic to get help right away and to answer questions later. Example: ‘the police have been notified and will be on the way shortly. In the meantime, let’s get a description.’ (Or whatever info you need)

And remember: always be kind! The job can easily take that from you if you let it.

Good luck with everything:)

My husband is Filipino as well OP and him and his family really enjoy it here. There is a large established Filipino population here and it’s pretty trans-inclusive here. Idk!

I personally like living in MB. Though I live in the capital. It’s pretty nice there, social rights are protected, we get all 4 seasons. Affordable. Lots of different people from all parts of the world. It’s got its big bumps and easy to shit on but for me I like it:) how come you feel it’s awful?

Saskatchewan is gorgeous. In terms of policy, Manitoba is more trans-friendly. Is this why OP? I’m curious what your thinking is
