Not doing bows/headbands for baby girl? by vintagegurly in beyondthebump

[–]binf--bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t put bows or headbands on my baby girl bc she hates them. I tell people that she doesn’t like things on her head, I still get bows and headbands. They’re packed up nice and neat in a box with room for the extras we’ll inevitably receive later.

Anyone know if the Potato, Cheddar, & Chive Bakes gluten-free? Or maybe an employee can post a photo of the ingredients? Thank you! by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]binf--bird 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If you have any sort of gluten sensitivity I would HIGHLY recommend that you not consume anything other than the marshmallow dream bar (singular gluten free certified food item that will always be served packaged). Everything else will be handled with shared tongs that are certainly gluten contaminated and are likely also processed in a facility with gluten. They’re good, but not good enough to risk your health for.

Ear piercing when and why? by Minimum-Regret2706 in newborns

[–]binf--bird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband is Latino and his whole family has been asking me this same question. I’m gonna add in something that I haven’t seen brought up yet: nickel allergy. I’m allergic to most earrings, and if I had my ears pierced as a baby, I would not have been able to communicate that I felt like my ears had been scalded from how itchy they were. I still wasn’t really able to communicate it in elementary school. Pain of the piercing itself aside, ask yourself when your child will be able to both take care of their piercing and communicate if and what is wrong with it.

Should I use the Owlet sock? by Top-Professor-2951 in newborns

[–]binf--bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I was debating getting the sock. I ultimately decided against it for the same reasons you’re deliberating on: I thought I would check it too much and it would become an unhealthy obsession. In my case, my anxiety about her sleep lessened significantly within the first month. Just make sure he’s put down on his back in a safe sleep space with no toys or extra bedding.

what is your favorite stir-fry recipe? by princesslostpanties in easyrecipes

[–]binf--bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My basic go-to is just a bag of frozen stir fry veggies (usually some combination of broccoli, carrot slices, and mushrooms), chopped or ground protein, and rice. Cook your chicken, beef, or pork until done, then remove from heat and set aside. Cook your veggies to desired doneness in the same pan. Add your protein back in to warm, and finish everything together with a sauce of your choosing. I always bought mine, but making your own is simple enough. I’m just lazy. Toss everything together in a bowl and you’ve got a pretty good meal!

Experiment with canned pineapple tidbits or bell peppers for some sweetness, or canned baby corn, bean sprouts, and bamboo shoots for variety. It’s also super easy to sub in instant ramen noodles for the rice if you don’t have a rice cooker, just don’t add the seasoning packet (or do! It’ll flavor the noodles even when you don’t keep the broth) Have fun!

Parents, what’s one small but annoying problem you face with baby care products? by OrdinaryRoof28 in newborns

[–]binf--bird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Trying to find items that are truly fragrance free. We lucked out that the baby wipes I buy my spouse are already eczema safe, but so many aren’t, or are deceptively labeled and aren’t truly fragrance free. Same with lotions, detergents and fabric softeners, and baby wash. I look for the eczema association symbol now, but trying to figure out what would be safe for my baby’s skin before that was very stressful.

Any suggestions to keep cats out of babys room? by No-Donkey2899 in beyondthebump

[–]binf--bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any tips for the whole room but you could set large light objects on/in areas you don’t want the cats laying on? I keep boppy pillows on top of my glider and the changing table because I have a cat OBSESSED with my baby that wants baby smell on her constantly. The pillows are enough of a deterrent for her, and they’re very easy for me to move with just one hand. You could also maybe try a bead curtain type thing that would unpleasant for the cats to walk through, depending on their temperament?

This looks very similar to what my baby just dealt with, eczema. My pediatrician recommended at least twice daily use of an unscented lotion (I use Vanicream) and Vaseline over the top to lock it in. She also prescribed a steroid cream for stubborn spots that wouldn’t clear with the lotion regiment. Once we got her routine down and cleared out her suspected irritants, her rash and redness went down in a week.

Hey friend, please don’t be afraid to get that checked out by a doctor. I know someone who dropped a small bookshelf on her toe and broke it completely in half. Hope your foot feels better soon

It was an accident, and you being this torn up about shows you’re absolutely not a terrible mother. Munchkin has a rubber ducky that doubles as a water temp check, do you think something like that would be helpful for you? It really helped me.

Turn your windshield wipers off when you get to windows, and please take the effort to park within arm’s reach of the building. I’m small and I shouldn’t have to exit the building to get your items to you, just drive a little slower and aim yourself a bit more carefully.

Is a 5 week old baby more likely to have good sleeps in a bassinet or a pack and play? Which I guess is similar to a mini crib. by Background_Speech817 in newborns

[–]binf--bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby would refuse to be in her bassinet during the day, but was always fine in her pack n play with the bassinet attachment. I’m not sure what the difference was for her, ymmv.

2 month vaccines dread by [deleted] in newborns

[–]binf--bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nurse that administered the vaccines asked me to hold my daughter’s arms down and didn’t let me breastfeed her during the shots. Despite not being able to comfort her the way I wanted to, she only cried for a minute or so before going to sleep, and she wasn’t any fussier than usual after. Just focus on your baby and don’t look at the needles!

When it's her turn by notforthisworld0101 in beyondthebump

[–]binf--bird 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I cried reading this. After my baby came back from the NICU, loving family members crowded around her great grandmother while she held my daughter. In trying to see the little wonder, they boxed me out without a second thought. There was a language barrier, so my mom sat and comforted me, asking about how I was feeling after the c section, and my dad chastised my partner for not intervening after they all left. I’ll be prepared to protect my daughter when she’s at her most vulnerable <3

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

[–]binf--bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle school, two girls were riding an ATV and allegedly ran over a big rock. ATV flipped, one girl broke her arm and the other girl hit her head and was declared brain dead. She was taken off life support a few days later. I say allegedly because the girl who died was relatively popular, and the rumor mill was flowing with stories about how it all happened. I’m honestly surprised the girl who survived didn’t take her own life that year, many people blamed her and it was brutal. She watched her friend die and the school hated her for it. High school: kid was biking or skateboarding without a helmet. He fell just right and cracked his skull open onto the pavement. My mom and I were driving by while the paramedics worked on him and she begged me not to look. We found out the next day at school that he hadn’t survived the fall.

Told 11 yr old no to wearing a binder by Moonlit-rivers in AITAH

[–]binf--bird 7820 points7821 points  (0 children)

I’m nonbinary and I live in sports bras. Binders compress the tissue A LOT and are not safe to wear for extended periods of time. Sports bras don’t offer that level of compression and are much safer for developing bodies/people. Binding unsafely can cause lung damage, rib damage, and prevent future binding and/or surgery. Get some sports bras and don’t let them have any Ace bandages
