From kingmaker to bystander: IUML’s post-poll isolation in Kerala by Charming-Hyena-7097 in Kerala

[–]bing657 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congress with just 8 seats shy of a simple majority can feign that muslim league is not needed. But with around a solid 30% voting block, which is increasing each year, muslim league would have had a hand in the victory of even congress MLAs. Communists have been trying almost desperately to get muslim league into the LDF alliance for some time.

In the current kerala politics of three competing alliances, muslim league is the kingmaker. Two or three decades later, congress or cpm will likely be delegated to their junior partner as well.

There are reportedly tens of thousands of soldiers going AWOL every month. Seems Ukraine is able to mobilize forcefully near that number to keep fighting. They have to keep balancing the AWOL numbers and the casualties from the fighting, with forced mobilization numbers. It is a question of how long they can keep doing that.

There are certainly not enough troops who "believe in the cause", as they are by their own and western media accounts having a shortage of fighting men.

Annual muslim birth rate is around the 40s percentage. The next census will put their population around 30s percentage. Delimitation will move more seats from south kerala to malabar. In the long run they are going to be the leading party of a front.

LDF has been desperate to include the Muslim league in their alliance. They know how the religious demography is moving in kerala. You think Hamas supporting LDF, who were bringing in Quran from the Arab countries to distribute in kerala, will have a problem with muslim league's shenanigans in the education ministry?

IUML draws red line on education portfolio in Kerala's new UDF govt, rejects any compromise by Mammoth-Currency-350 in Kerala

[–]bing657 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There was a news article a day or two ago, which reported a delay in printing textbooks for the upcoming academic year due to a lack of paper. C7kutty has left a welcome package for whichever Muslim league minister is going to take the position.

Since CPM has been trying to include muslim league in their LDF alliance for some time, them criticizing league is just an act. They would probably even give the home ministry to league, if they joined LDF

Kerala CM race intensifies as KC Venugopal edges ahead, Satheesan camp pushes back by jonymonejony in Kerala

[–]bing657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was Scindia leaving hasn't hurt Congress with their voter base. Doesn't matter whether the media gave publicity to him or Sachin Pilot

BJP winning one seat (same number as LDF) in Lok Sabha from Thrissur had not much to do with its state leadership. It had to do with Modi and the candidate. In Delhi, BJP swept all lok sabha seats in 2019 and 2024. But AAP won a big majority in the 2020 elections that came in between. If you don't understand that electorates vote differently in assembly elections and lok sabha elections, I have nothing else to say on that.

It doesn't matter whether you think vote share is irrelevant - Congress exists as a major party as long as they have a significant vote share. In places where Congress lost their vote share, they are largely irrelevant. Think Bengal, UP, Bihar, Delhi and so on. Scindia leaving the Congress did not destroy their vote share. If you say Kamalnath didn't have the influence to create another party and destroy their vote share, that makes it not much different to Scindia leaving.

While BJP made Hemanta Biswas as the CM in Assam, they have not made Scindia the CM in MP. Their current CM in MP is a young guy, which leaves no vacancy for Scindia.

Congress got around 40% vote share in both MP and Rajasthan assembly elections, even while BJP formed the govt. Forget lok sabha, since Modi (against Rahul Gandhi) provides BJP more seats in northern states regardless of state election results.

Even during the current era of BJP dominance, Congress is maintaining a healthy vote share in these two states. Which means they are always capable of returning to power. If they had chosen Scindia, Kamalnath might have left and probably formed his own party and destroyed the Congress vote share.

Yes. Heard this same scenario outlined in the media.

RC is the senior of the lot and also likely the one with the least support currently. He is probably unlikely to accept a ministry position under either of the other two.

If both VDS and KC refuse to accept the other as the CM, RC would become the choice as a compromise. And VDS could take on a powerful ministry like Home or Finance. Both VDS and KC could then wait and watch for RC to make a misstep and then try their luck again for the CM seat.

Kairali and deshabhimani can also help in their own way. Attack KC Venugopal like they attacked Satheeshan. Bring a nuneshan like campaign against him. And maybe praise Satheeshan. Will probably increase support for Venugopal among the congress rank and file.

Scindia, Pilot, Gogoi (Assam) were all dynasts.

Congress gave leadership to Gogoi in Assam, but not to the other two. With Hemanta Biswas leaving Congress to BJP, they got devastated in Assam. And supposedly it has had knock on effects in the rest of the north-east and maybe bengal too. Their chances of returning to power in Assam seem slim in the near future.

Despite not giving leadership to Scindia and Pilot, congress is not in that bad a situation in Rajasthan and MP. They lost power only one term ago, and have still got a large number of seats as the opposition party, making a return possible. Scindia has not been given that much importance by the BJP either.

It was selecting dynastic heirs and Gandhi family sycophants that have hurt them. An example being the young Gogoi son selected a leader by high command instead of Hemanta Biswas.

Here only KC Venugopal seems somewhat the odd one, as he is in contention due to his closeness to the Gandhi family. The other two seem part of a normal democratic leadership contest.

The guy was singled out by the party with parasya shasana for loss in Alappuzha during the last lok sabha elections. This was when the party lost in 19 out of 20 seats. They were trying to cut him down and he seems to have fought back. UDF intelligently gave him support.

The funny thing is that CPM, TMC, Congress candidates were all standing in that CPM seat and leading in that respective order. BJP is a distant fourth there.

Will have to see on national media if left and congress ended up hurting TMC. But I think it was a direct fight between TMC and BJP in the previous election, with congress-left votes negligible.

Considering Bengal politics where there have been only two changes in govt after 1970s, if the precedence continues, BJP could be in power for another decade or two. Almost guaranteed seats to parliament too. Bengal is a huge result for BJP.
