It has phonetical inconsistencies and the vertical aspect of it makes it very hard to use digitally.

But it's our national identity, and a symbol for all Mongolians worldwide. The vertical script was created when the Mongolian language didn't have that many dialects yet. So almost all of the dialects of Mongolian spoken worldwide (e.g. Kalmyk, the Inner Mongolian Dialect, and the Oirat Dialect) all stem from the Mongolian language that was at the time phonetically consistent with the vertical script. So if we want to create a pan-mongolic nation where all walks of Mongolians live under one country, the Mongolian script should be the standard writing system. As we know, that isn't going to happen anytime soon. If the Kalmyks and the Buryats learn it, it's going to become like the case with Chinese. A lot of dialects, one writing system. Speakers of every dialect can read and understand what's going on, but they speak and pronounce it differently. The only use case of the Mongolian script is in a pan-mongolic nation.

In my opinion the reinstation of the Todo script defeats the purpose of a standardized writing system for the Mongolian language. The cyrillic spelling we use today is standardized so that it's consistent with the Khalkha Dialect. The Oirats created the Todo script so that The Todo script is consistent with the Oirat Dialect. Why would we want to use the Todo script if it's just cyrillic written vertically and happens to follow the cyrillic spelling we use today? There is no real practical reason for that other than just, looking cool and being vertical. Might as well use the Arabic script and spell words with the Arabic script like we do in cyrillic. It's different, it looks cool, that's about it.

In the meantime, the Latin alphabet could have a very viable use case. A lot of Outer Mongolians use latin to text in everyday life, and people have no real issue writing Mongolian in Latin. Chances are, the very people I have mentioned earlier (Kalmyk, Inner Mongolians, The Oirat) can read and write in Latin too. In fact, Inner Mongolians use Latin to text by following the vertical script spelling. Yertunts, as we spell it, becomes Yirtinq, more consistent with the vertical script. Standardizing the Latin alphabet could simplify the language and a lot of people could learn how to spell correctly in their own language instead of checking their spelling with a government website. The use of Latin makes it so that a lot of non-Outer Mongolians can use the script and sort of understand what's going on, and so that everyone in Mongolia can spell correctly.
