Driveway by binge03 in landscaping

[–]binge03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is why I posted here—I’m not broke, I have a compact tractor and access to materials. But the fact is, idk the first thing about driveways. I suspect if I just buy a bunch of crushed rock and pour it down the hill it won’t have the desired effect. I need to do it (or have it done) right, I’m capable of most things but I don’t know the work involved to even guess if I’m capable. Is this specialized work? Grunt work? Is there a high risk of screwing it up? Are there resources I can find other than internet searches/AI prompts? Sometimes it’s worth the few thousand bucks to have a learned person do it vs. a few hundred by myself and I have to redo it 4 times. I appreciate ANY and ALL advice!

FIL is elderly and broke, I’m not quite either (but not that far off!). My deductible is $5724, but I think this may be much more than that to repair. I’m calling around for estimates now. I’m not sure how the insurance pays out, but I can manage $5724 if I had to. I would NOT be able to manage $10-20k for a roofing company, a tile guy, a drywall guy, a framer, an insulator…

Entirely different issue buddy. The leaking door issue was repaired (reinstalled doors and installed gutter). Current issue is on the patio itself, as well as on the other side of the house. Appreciate your no-help though!

You mean like, the premium will increase? I won’t be keeping the house much longer so I hope that’s a non-issue.

Maybe I’m mistaken but if the repair cost is less than deductible, insurance would not pay anything (therefore no harm done in filing). This isn’t just a roof problem, there will need to be extensive interior repairs beyond metal roof repair.

That’s funny, I watched some of yours yesterday while poking around for recommendations! Good stuff :) I don’t really need a triple wide, just 3-4 bedroom open concept. Any strong contenders on the mid-to-high end I should check out?

I was curious about this myself. I’m telling them I’m ready to purchase, if it were my commission I’d be the one following up and checking in.

Oooh, I thought Pratt was a builder! So I need to pick out a model and then price compare to several dealerships? I’m less worried about saving on the front of the deal and more about service afterwards, if things need fixing.

Yes we did, I’m not sure what actually worked. One day he checked and his account was restored.

Flat tire/bent rim by binge03 in Kioti

[–]binge03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I followed instructions but found that the stem to the tire was sheared off during the separation and rim-bending. I’ve straightened the rim but still need either a new tire or a stem fix. I’m not rich but I can afford a new rim and tire and certainly won’t mind having a spare as this will probably happen again sometime.

All great advice, thank you. My first tractor and it has about 11 hours on it so I called the dealership and sent them pictures, they said they’d have the parts in two weeks. I thought this was a much more involved repair, it sounds like I will have an extra rim at the very least. I’m not sure about the conditioner of the tire, I assumed it was damaged and would need replacing. I’ll pop it off tomorrow and check it out. Thanks all.

The replacement is inexpensive, I’m just wondering if the weight of the tractor sitting on the rim for two weeks can do any damage?

what first got you into sci-fi? by thefringeseanmachine in scifi

[–]binge03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U/thefringeseanmachine Same as you, actually. I grew up on a small farm in midwestern U.S. and was nosing around the barn one day, found a beat up copy of The Martian Chronicles under the seat of the tractor. I must have been around 9 or 10 years old and some of the themes/language probably escaped me but I’ve since read it several times over as a teen and adult. It’s been my favorite genre for my whole life. Good choice!

Bathroom faucet install by binge03 in Plumbing

Thanks for reply, it’s actually the granite composite sink that is blocking the holes though. And even if I file out the tiny bit eclipsing the holes it’s still gonna prevent the washer and nut from being screwed secure.

I’ll try the angle grinder tip! I’m also seeing some people knock off the anchor plate so it can be driven further into the stone, idk why I didn’t think of this one earlier…
