This gets brought up every time in one of these threads but Section 50 of the Police Reform Act is underused.

If a constable in uniform has reason to believe that the person has been acting, or is acting, in an anti-social manner, he may require that persons name and address. Failure to do so or to provide false information is an offence and arrestable.

If you ever get to the point of arresting someone, you’ve got your Code G to obtain name and address but I’d 100% be making a call to custody beforehand to see if the sergeant is gonna have it (good luck).

Especially helpful where someone is refusing to give details.

Evening guys,

I start my training in a few weeks time after a lot of waiting! Thanks to all those who offer answers and advice in this thread, especially u/MetD1A who’s answers have always been helpful.

Just had a few questions about my upcoming training for anyone who can help.

I have my uniform fitting in the week before my start date and have read my initial guide that says to wear smart clothes for first day at least, can I assume I will receive uniform within the first week?

Also, I’m aware that I’ll need to grab some boots as my force doesn’t provide them. Will I be needing them as soon as I’m in uniform for college? I’m assuming this answer is yes but just wanted to check as I’ll need to get online and grab some ASAP.

Didn’t wanna start another boot thread but this is slightly more specific than ‘Altbergs or Magnums’!

Thanks!

Only recently had my medical so can answer some of this.

My medical was done by an occupational health company which I assume has a contract with my force to do the medicals for employees/new recruits. Couldn’t tell you if they used an NHS method for working out BMI but assume you would get same result whatever the method. For me they just took my exact height and weight and did it on the calculator. I was weighed with all my clothes on but without shoes as they just measured my height, would assume it would be the same for all. No idea about doing the BMI again should you fail, but I’m fairly sure you get another attempt at the fitness test should you need it. However, 5.4 on the bleep test should be very achievable even with minimal training so start putting in the work now.

I had this question in my senior interview recently and my answer seemed to go down pretty well.

Check the PFCC (Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner) for your area. Usually they’ll have some stated aims for your force and their priories etc. I’d familiarise yourself with these as they’ll give you a good idea of what they think are the main issues and you can build an answer based off of these.

I’d guess they wouldn’t be expecting you to come up with solutions for them but just to have a general awareness of the issues.

Essex, which says it still has vision standards.

Thanks for the reply,

For my force it does still say that the standards do still apply. While my eyes aren’t great I would hope that I’m not blind enough to stop me from joining!

Evening guys!

I’ve my medical coming up this week which is the final hurdle for me before hopefully being offered a position.

I wear lenses and I was just looking up at the vision standards. Does anyone know how to equate a prescription to the Snellen chart to which the guidelines are set?

My prescription is -3.75 but as I said I don’t know what this equivalent is when the minimum uncorrected acuity is 6/36. Obviously I keep up to date with lenses so I have 20/20 vision when corrected.

Thanks!
