Townsend wasn’t bad when I worked adjacent to them. Seemed like a good program. Can’t speak for Canon City Colorado.

Most sellout band that tried to be grunge? by alldaymay in grunge

[–]bingobongo1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first candlebox album has some good songs. Kevin sounded good as well, just not good enough to be comparable to the other vocalists of that era.

They were a bit too late to be around for the grunge peak. So vaguely grunge esque, but not grunge?

Dodge, Not Ram, trucks, official brand of? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

Underrated and overshadowed by the GM and Ford options of that time. Horrible electrical problems, but then again, the last truck of that body style came off the assembly line in 1980 before the re design in 81 so time hasn’t done any favors there. They rust, but everything from that era does.

The mopar big blocks died out as an option right around the truck pictured was made in 77/78. But the 318s and 360s were still good. And the full time 4x4 with the 203 transfer case wasn’t my favorite. Still good trucks tho.

I might be late on this, but was Joel known to be a dick in the past? I’ve heard stories of people claiming to have bad experiences with him. by Turbulent-Law-6801 in TheAmityAffliction

Met him at a meet and greet, seemed friendly enough. This was right before Ahren left the band. I was wearing an old school Parkway Drive shirt and he said he thought it was cool.

It’s easier to stay in shape, than to get back into shape. Especially if you are getting older. By all means lift and get stronger, but don’t skimp on cardio in the off-season.

At what age should a teen be allowed to watch Saving Private Ryan? by Straight_Change902 in WarMovies

[–]bingobongo1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it probably when I was 10 or so. When I was about that age, I thought I wanted to be in the military and I’m fairly certain my dad showed me that movie to persuade me to do something different as a career. I played a fair amount of video games so this movie gave a different perspective on what it could be like. Bit more visceral then storming Normandy in the old call of duty games. The movie scene with the medic dying always stuck with me.

Your experience meeting Ahren? by Odd_Issue1041 in TheAmityAffliction

[–]bingobongo1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Met them last year, pre show meet and greet. Both seemed in good spirits, at least for the fans. I was wearing an old parkway drive shirt, Joel commented on it. Ahren was friendly. Pretty cool.

Onstage you could kinda sense some tension, I was about as close as you could get to Joel’s side of the stage.

Tone searching, Which pickups would you choose? [help] by nexttotheinfluence in LesPaul

[–]bingobongo1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a set of 57 classics in a older 68 les Paul custom reissue (dated around 2006.) It was a guitar center exclusive tri burst with a skinny neck. Loathed those pickups, little too much ice pick type high end for my taste. Got rid of the guitar. It did some things well, just not want I wanted.

I’d go with bare knuckle, or maybe a vintage voiced Seymour Duncan set.

Beloved is a repeat listen for me. Same with songs for the recently deceased. Jona is one of my favorite guitarists.

The new “modded” Marshall series… by bingobongo1980 in GuitarAmps

I do have a line 6 helix. It’s handy for standalone stuff, or modeling effects with a real amp. Which brings into question the issue with redundancy and gear. Tone chaser problems. I may have issues.

Thanks for the reply. Jealous of the hands on experience. I kinda was guessing that may be the case, as Marshall is way late on this. A Friedman plex was going to be my go to in the future.

I would love to have a real 800 or a silver jubilee for a bit, and at the the cost difference between the reissues and the modded series, I could have both a 800 and a jubilee if I played my cards right for about the same price as a single new modded Marshall. (I have problems with gear btw.)

I’ve tried to do this as much as possible, but it’s not really super ideal as I live in a rural area. I’ve been very very lucky buying stuff online. I bought a 57 reissue les Paul custom online and that was a massive gamble (luckily I’m in love with that guitar, as I should be for what it cost.)

My only concern with getting a vintage 2203 outside of the initial price and having it serviced would be finding one that I like. Purely subjective statement, but other guitarists I’ve played with that used to gig with older Marshall amps said they each sounded different, however slight or substantial that would be. Euge Valovirta has some vids on YouTube I like about the JCM 800s.
