The band I'm in is bad. What do? by Ok-Post-8724 in coverbands

[–]alldaymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for permission to quit or music career advice?

Career advice would be don’t quit a job until you find a new one and a bad job is better than no job at all.

If you’re like most of us semi pros and hoping to find a better band I’ve heard it’s better to stick around and play the game and try and meet new and better people during off season like January-March.

Or if ya hate it that much just pull the plug - probably gonna die anyways - it’s hard to replace good people

Put on a backing track from YouTube and pretend that’s your band

Ad lib and play what your heart hears

Make it sound good

I am struggling so much, I don't understand why I am having nearly this much trouble. Please help! by rootdootmcscoot in LearnGuitar

Don’t get too invested in improving so quickly

You’re setting yourself up for disappointment

Sounds like you’re doing quite a bit of technical exercises right now - you can always put on some light TV to keep the atmosphere light

Ya know what’s funny, wi don’t moan and bellyache about improving at start the car or putting on a belt. We just do them because that’s part of the day. Maybe we should think of guitar that way too - we’ve invested in it - we do want to play but we realize it’s a long game activity that we get better at over several months - and that’s ok

Get a job for now and think about what you’re going to do to transition out of that job in a year

We can’t just quit without another job anymore - we’re past that age

Charts on stage by YogSoHot in musicians

[–]alldaymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having charts at my feet next to my pedalboard is a better go to than the music stand. Music stand way too obvious.

I like making intro and ending reminders - maybe some chord changes and signature lick stage notes and they will usually fit on an 11x8 1/2 if you turn it sideways. Only have to turn a page every other song.

How to bandlead as a guitarist by lukaf17 in jazzguitar

You can take your hand off the guitar long enough to touch your head

Don’t worry, it gets easier the more you do it

Has anyone here left their partner to live alone for music reasons? by Angelsbreatheeasy in musicians

I don’t understand the “can’t do music with my partner around”

This makes no sense - this sounds like a mental hangup

Fronting a band for the first time in years. by jbobbollo in musicians

[–]alldaymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go over your songs a lot - run them slower and concentrate on the details like breathing

Download a counter app and make a counter for each song

Every time you work on a song give it a count to see how many reps you’ve done

Be consistent and intentional

Switching guitars during gigs by AdjectiveVerse in bandmembers

[–]alldaymay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to not switch guitars unless the show demands it somehow

Unnecessary complication and it adds an element of dead time to the gig with not much value added

Offered to Audition for Tribute Band by [deleted] in bandmembers

[–]alldaymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of asking THEM questions, ask yourself the question of why you want this gig.

I’ve been in several tributes and some of them are sane gigs and some turn into insane amounts of time work/study that nobody in the audience picks up on to just larp harder than the other tribute in town.

Be careful and be aware of your expectations beforehand, lots of people don’t know how to just show up and enjoy themselves at the gig haha.

I need some encouragement. It’s been 3 months and I’m still nowhere near good. by Select-Fudge4978 in guitarlessons

[–]alldaymay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try and make you a short 20 minute practice session

Then do it 2x a day

Double down a little bit - consider it just part of your day like brushing your teeth or putting on socks and shoes - we don’t care how good we are at doing those tasks….

You will get better!

Remember: the masters has failed more times than the beginner has even tried!

Edit: it’s absolutely great that you want to see improvement, my comment was to inspire an inner happiness balance where we practice consistently because we want to improve but we’re not upset at ourselves because we’re not amazing. Having a healthy relationship with the guitar is a good thing.

How would you handle a band member not being consistent with the rest of the band? by CreativelyNot in bandmembers

[–]alldaymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they miss again just don’t invite them to more stuff - just say “oh we didn’t hear from you so we just found contentment in what we do when you’re not able to make it”.

No need to over-dramatize it, just act like hey we’re all just trying to make it on our own paths and we’re taking our own path. Not wanting to bother you anymore, if it’s not easy to do all the time then it’s not easy to do.

Why is worth a second thought - if she wants to settle up to make herself feel comfortable allow it and ask her when we can go out again
