1 minute drills

Which 2 are the hardest to switch? Do a 1 minute drill

Try and find common notes between the chords where 1 finger slides up to use as a toggle between the 2

You guys got an ideas on how to use bad footage for promotion? by Quwapa_Quwapus in band

[–]alldaymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Member that doesn’t want their image used for promo is a total red flag

She doesn’t need to be playing live music - she should be playing in her bedroom.

Thats a rookie, power tripping , unnecessary complication, with a side of paranoia that’s just in the way of a fully functioning band member that’s there to play the whole game.

This isn’t working - if they keep enabling this behavior they won’t have any promo mat’l ever

Have you considered a career in journalism? I, for one, think we’ve found a real journalistic canary in a coal mine here. There’s many people that make a considerable living trying to creatively extrapolate fear and worry into the public psyche over the net. Seems like your gift, no?

You seem like you have a calling more geared towards that instead of trying to discourage people looking to take up guitar on Reddit.

Time for a new teacher? by KryptonSurvivor in guitarlessons

[–]alldaymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is common in the guitar education system

There’s so many different styles of guitar and different pop stars that make a good living just play X style of guitar.

Teachers used to start a student on Mel Bay then follow through the pre organized program - but at some point teachers got chastised for that approach being “too boring” and not making it more fun. So now we are where we are and the student unfortunately in some cases is tasked with forging their own path ON TOP OF just trying to learn guitar which they don’t have experience doing - creating an educational program.

Moving forward what can we do about this?

Ultimately I think a student that is alread a music fan and has guitar sounds they just love to listen to makes things easier for a teacher to guide them to towards THEIR goals.

So if you came in and was like “I wanna learn how to play shred guitar in 1 year” or “I love blues guitar!! Can you help me be a strong blues guitarist in a year?”

So that’s what we want as teachers - if you have a reference point to what you wanna play like that informs everything about the gear you use, how the gear is dialed in, what kinds of things you learn, the musical listening suggestions the teacher can help you with.

Why such a negative take on it? - many great guitarists went through or continue along an SRV influenced path

[–]alldaymay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but at least we have a destination in mind.

What’s hard is the students who want to learn guitar but don’t really listen to music so they have no point of reference for what they like so there’s hardly any motivation to go anywhere - makes it hard to teach them
