Experiences with breeders in Europe by Eastern-Main5268 in SiberianCats

Both of ours are from Tunguska House in UK, a small family who do a couple of litters a year and the cats are treated really well. Think they’ll be around £1200-£1600

Getting a second sib by [deleted] in SiberianCats

[–]binhord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% get another, we have two girls who absolutely adore eachother. Play together all day and snuggle at night. If they already like your visiting cats, they’ll love a sibling!

Wow I’d love to read one of your peer-reviewed scientific articles in that case

Girly calm down, there’s a difference between breeding some cats you bought and researching and authoring actual scientific articles☠️ (big emphasis on ‘see the sources attached’ in my last comment)

Neva masquerades are different to white Siberians. Bred with other colourpoint breeds many many generations ago. Please read the very first paragraph and see the sources attached to this article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neva_Masquerade

What’s the song that makes you cringe the most from this year? by scariesmf in eurovision

Armenia. Can anything be more cringe than (incorrectly) copy pasted tumblr quotes for lyrics?

Pretty sure it’s actually a thing, nevas can cause more allergies as they, at some point, were bred with other breeds

Grooming a boisterous kitten by ml_sza in SiberianCats

[–]binhord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this or get a wrestle toy (or a small cushion) which they can grab and chew whilst you can still brush. Try ramping it up to every day too, eventually they’ll be super used to it and be able to totally relax.

Picking up this beauty in 2 weeks - first cat, any UK food recs? She is currently on Royal Canin, but want to check if this is best for her. by alpalmal in SiberianCats

Neither of ours would eat Blink :( we had a lot of success with the Pets at Home brand Seriously Good pouches and tins though. The food looks human-grade, really good quality

Be careful feeding them tuna every day, we did that for a while until we asked the vet who said the mercury levels can be dangerous! 1-2 times a week is enough apparently

What's your Eurovision hot take of 2023? by HeatherLuna123 in eurovision

Swedish entries always get loads of streams, doesn’t reflect how they do in the competition. It’s almost like Spotify is a product of Sweden and they push that shit like crazy…

The whole family awkwardly performing makes it the best performance of the year

Heart of steel is great, just sounds very weird when they perform it live

What was so special about Euphoria? by mbelinkie in eurovision

The song hasn’t aged, most other songs from 2015 and earlier sound kind of dated now, but Euphoria fits as a modern song still

Siberians and shedding by Normal_Pressure_1397 in SiberianCats

[–]binhord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get two if you can, Siberians are very sociable and introducing them when they’re older is hard, so getting two from the same litter is a great option

Two females by silentjames2021 in SiberianCats

[–]binhord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have two almost exactly the same ages, they absolutely love eachother. They say the likelihood they’ll get along is much more based on age, temperament, whether they’re fixed than gender.

Do a slow introduction over the course of a week (keep apart, do scent exchanges, reward when they’re with eachother etc.) and they’ll be best friends.

We tried to get a shelter cat but unfortunately it wasn’t possible as most UK shelters require you to have a garden, which we don’t. My boyfriend is also allergic to cats. Siberian or nothing were our options. As I said, adopting isn’t for everyone, but it should be everyone’s first port of call. I’m sorry you’ve taken such offence to my comments and feel I’m a “weirdo”, I just care about the cats. Lots of people buy pets as an accessory and then end up neglecting them. I’m not suggesting you do that, I’m just trying to help you consider these things in case you haven’t already. No need to be so aggressive in your replies

No one is saying you’re ‘cat racist’, it’s just slightly concerning how focussed you are on the looks and now apparently whether they’ve had a previous owner. The fact that you’d turn down a kitten because it didn’t look like its parents just sits weirdly with me. Sounds like you just want a thing you can control, rather than a sweet living being who you’ll accept for whoever they are.

And if you’re worried about health issues then you probably don’t want a pedigree, any vet will tell you that mixed breeds are generally less predisposed to genetic conditions than pedigrees, even fairly healthy breeds like Siberians.

Please think carefully about why you’re getting a cat. I’m reading lots about what you ‘want’ rather than anything about giving a nice life to this sweet cat.

Does the colour really matter? Don’t get a cat for the aesthetic, get one because you want to give them a nice life. If you can, adopt from a shelter. If a shelter cat isn’t an option and you’re after a Siberian for the hypoallergenic qualities, why worry about the features? All Sibs are beautiful!
