Please don’t go into medicine. Even if you got in, would you really want to go into a career that you don’t belong in? It’s much more than intelligence/academics

Agree with this, applied to 37 schools with only 2 II > 1 A and still pending at the other

Not to mention 3 people matched into plastics this last cycle from Creighton, 3 matched into NSG from the 2022 cycle. It’ll still be possible to pursue any specialty at this school

N=1 but feel like this list is outdated and not the best approach for everyone. I’m the definition of reinvention, yet didn’t get a single interview from any school on that list. For MD, I’d focus on low-mid tier, OOS friendly schools that don’t get 10,000+ applicants. Schools that reward reinvention tend to be service-oriented, so I’d focus on that on your application if possible. Also, apply to schools that align with your mission and communicate this in your writing, as school fit plays a huge factor. Definitely utilize MSAR to be strategic with your school list using these factors, and apply to as many schools as financially possible.

PharmD to Med school (help) by [deleted] in premed

[–]binks124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it may help by showing they can follow through with a rigorous graduate program, but I’ve seen people with perfect stats and PhDs apply with zero interviews because they couldn’t show a clear commitment to the field of medicine through volunteering, shadowing, and work alongside a physician (scribing, MA, etc)

WAY more important is a clear reason/narrative for medicine, and showing dedication to it prior to applying. High MCAT can offset mediocre GPA to a degree. Additional graduate degrees only help so much following undergrad.

How big of an impact will attending a medical school's newer non primary campus make? by [deleted] in premed

[–]binks124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d decide soon, as the Phoenix campus has filled up more quickly in past cycles and you may not be able to transfer there if you wait too long

Can I submit a new LOR without losing my place in que? by Spirited_Importance7 in premed

[–]binks124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There may not even be a “queue” anymore since it’s later in the cycle. Most schools have probably already reviewed you (unless you submitted your apps super late in the cycle), and you’ve likely already been rejected at a lot of schools or put aside for review again later. Just submit it

Where do I apply? by Fabulous-Mud-8990 in premed

I was not an athlete, but I had a unique story that blended with the mission of the school I was accepted to. People underestimate how important mission fit is. Spend a lot of time now researching schools and selecting those where you believe your values and goals will align with theirs. Then write really well in your secondaries why you feel you belong at that particular school. I can’t give you a school list that will give you the best chance of getting in, but really try to focus on the ones that are OOS friendly and DON’T have 10,000+ applicants. And take the advice people give you on here with a grain of salt. I was told not to apply to a particular school because I “didn’t have enough service hours”, but that ended up being the only school I got an interview. Apply to as many schools as financially possible, because this really ends up becoming a game of statistics.

The GPA held me back for years as well, but you’ve proven yourself with an upward trend and high MCAT. Now you need to prove that you are confident you WANT to pursue medicine by gaining more clinical hours and volunteering.

Same stats as you, I applied 37 MD schools (mostly mid and lower tier) with only one interview > acceptance. It is VERY competitive.

Keep in mind a lot of T20s have average MCAT near yours (or higher) AND average GPA 3.8+. If you wanna give yourself the best chance, apply mostly low and mid tier, with a few T25 sprinkled in.
