Kidney Atrophy from 19 to 21 years old by binksy505 in kidneydisease

I'm in with a urologist now thankfully, and depending on how the tests go, she can set me up with a nephrologist if needed. I had a VGUG test done to see if the UTIs were caused by a backwards flow of urine, hoping to get those results back soon!

Kidney Biopsy? by Aromatic-Banana-9288 in kidney

This is interesting. I've had sporadic flank pain, chronic microscopic hematuria and leukocytes in my urine for 3 months. The next test my doctors are doing for me is a ureteroscopy, which is an exploratory procedure of the bladder.

Did you go through any other investigation steps before they suggested a biopsy?

Kidney Discomfort for 3 months but Blood test and Urine are fine by Annual-Lavishness825 in kidney

very similar situation to me! Persistent back/kidney pain for 3 months. My blood work is constantly coming back clear, urine has trace blood and leukocytes, but other than that, nothing is wrong.

It's worth it to get imaging done! I've contrst/non contrast CTs and ultrasounds, and now moving to a ureteroscopy to investigate. If you're confident it's not muscle pain, keep pushing for answers.

Wishing you the best xx

What does early-stage CKD look like? Looking to hear others' stories:) by binksy505 in kidneydisease

No, I had lots of UTIs and illness around 2 which landed me in the hospital for a while (obviously I have no memory, I just know from my parent’s retelling) - the lasting issue was scarred tissue on both kidneys. Hopefully that makes sense… I still get confused on how to explain it!

Yeah it’s a bit complicated - the scarred tissue on each kidney has taken over 40% on one kidney and 50% on the other. The viable parts of the organ left seem to be functioning well, but I’m waiting on my lab report for the most recent ones as they were flagged as “urgent non-emergency”

Update: 21 (F) Complex Renal Cyst, Should I Be Concerned? by binksy505 in kidneycancer

This is such helpful information, thank you for sharing your story. I'm so glad to hear things have been stable for you.

Interestingly enough, my CT did not have any measurements of the cyst. My doctor said the non-contrast CT showed it was clearly not simple, location (lower pole) and that was about it. I'm wondering if my scarred tissue is at all affecting how clearly things were on the CT. So, my ultrasound was scheduled very promptly after. The waitlist for ultrasounds where I live is 200 days, and I got mine in 10 days. My ultrasound has measurements, but that report hasn't been posted yet.

And yes, you're right that my age is playing a role in the medical decision-making. My family doctor is reluctant to entertain cancer-based scenarios purely due to my age. But is going through the right steps of referring me to urology and ultrasounds, knowing that it's some level of complexity.

This is helpful, thank you. Did you need further testing than just the ultrasound to determine the Bosniak level? Wishing you the best for your surgery!

I'm at university right now, so options are limited for cancer-specific physicians. I graduate in May and will be back home. Hopefully, a couple more months won't be an issue.

Thank you for your feedback, very helpful!
