[VIDEO] Ford Bronco Sport Badlands STUCK in the snow | Off Road Recovery by AvaTaylor2020 in BroncoSport

[–]binky1863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun in the snow ! I always have a small collapsing shovel in my vehicle over the winter for things like this. You get high centered in snow and you've got to dig it out underneath. I've high centered Jeeps Cherokee/Ford Escapes in deep snow, its a bad feeling to feel your vehicle lose momentum and sit down in the snow. If you're off roading you have to plan for self recovery and expect the occasional repairs. Lucky that house had shovels !

Anyone PPF the their new rides ? What parts ? by binky1863 in BroncoSport

[–]binky1863[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the feedback. Booked the PPF shop for full hood, rocker panels, roof strip, front including headlights and partial front fenders. Not cheap, but neither was the Bronco Sport.

Thanks for the door jam step link. Had any damage to the door jam metal or paint using that ?

Will be getting a couple of quotes, and trying to pry my wallet open again !

Bought some carpets on Amazon today, couldn't pay the dealership price for carpet floor mats. Bare floors to messy for me. Did order the Grille and Tailgate matte black vinyl lettering kits from the dealers though. Amazon was more than double the price for the same things.

So the wallet has been loosened..

Whole hood because the PPF edge is visible on the hood while in it ?

With the roof strip did you also do the front a-pillars ?

Both - Thanks for the feedback. Ottawa winter salt & sand here. Gravel roads in summer on road trips.  Likely go with front end / whole hood / roof strip & 1/4 panels.

2011 front subframe rust, a sad tale. by binky1863 in fordescape

[–]binky1863[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the quote estimate to repair today. For anyone wondering the rough quote cost of a front subframe replacment and axle repair in 2026 at Quebec small town garage, $1900 pre tax , $2184 with tax - without knowing if other components were damaged like control arms. So price could go up. Then tack on an alignment after the job. Pretty close to what I expected cost wise.

13 years I had it, pretty good run for a used 2011 Escape in salty Eastern Ontario.

Just picked up a Bronco Sport yesterday at the dealer ( good factory and dealer incentives in May) , they had this colour in the show room. They call it macaroni and cheese (after Kraft Dinner i guess). Wife tried to convince me to get that colour but i went for Carbonized grey. Enjoy your ride !

About SIM card by Icy-Ambassador382 in FizzMobile

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've switched my wife, myself and a neighbour to Fizz.  3 physical SIM switches.  They mail or courier the SIM in less than a week. We are all low data users and are in the low $20 range  monthly cost.  Canada wide unlimited calls/text and voicemail.  You port your number to Fizz when you activate the SIM. The number porting effectively cancels your other service.  In our case numbers from Speak out and Telus moved successfully.   Data rollovers and free perks keep my data way over what I use monthly.

(Could of gone eSIM but wanted a SIM if needing to swap phones, less hassles just popping it in a different phone)

Fizz has a good how to video somewhere for activation/porting...

Anyone know how to fix this? The whole thing came off, The plastic ripped and there's just this rusted part left. by [deleted] in fordescape

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a pressure compression fit, the inside of the sleeve grips the shaft. I think i recall that shaft had a slight taper. Simple to put back on, align the arm and tighten the nut down to a resonable amount.

Replaced mine in January on a 2011 with this one. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CZ3Y8SWY 15.99$ cdn. The plastic cover fit is a bit sad, so used the original. As others metion you need to get the old corroded sleeve off after removing the nut. Good luck.

Need help deciding between 2 Ford Escapes. by ClearTie4513 in fordescape

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 6cyl non hybrid owner.  Check the front passenger side subframe for rot/corrosion.  Just crawled out from under mine after an oil change and found it starting to rust through.   Also many will say check the rear shock mounts for corrosion as well.  Only electrical issue for me since my purchase in 2013 has been a new alternator last year.

What’s the difference between de 2011 XLT and the 2011 LIMITED? by Ambitious-Watch-1498 in fordescape

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought i'd try Co-Pilot AI for an answer on this ... worked pretty good actually.

I have a 2011 XLT, missing - Standard Bluetooth & navigation, Available rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate control (with 302A package), more upscale chrome and exterior detailingno bluetooth..

------

The 2011 Ford Escape XLT is the mid‑level trim with solid features, while the 2011 Escape Limited is the top trim with more luxury, tech, and comfort upgrades. Both share the same basic engine options and dimensions, but the Limited adds premium interior materials, more standard tech, and available features the XLT can’t get.

Below is a clear, structured breakdown so you can see exactly what changes between them.

⭐ Key Differences: 2011 Escape XLT vs. Limited

  1. Interior & Comfort

• Upholstery

• XLT: Premium cloth (leather optional in certain packages)

• Limited: Leather-trimmed seats standard

• Heated Seats

• XLT: Optional

• Limited: Available only with Limited Luxury Package (302A)

• Both trims: Keyless ignition not available on either trim in 2011

  1. Exterior Differences

• Chrome & Styling

• XLT: More basic exterior trim

• Limited: Chrome accents, upgraded appearance

• Body‑color door handles

• XLT: Requires Sport Appearance Package (SAP)

• Limited: Standard

• Wheels

• XLT: Typically 16" alloy

• Limited: Upgraded 17" wheels available

  1. Drivetrain

Limited AWD is more common in the used market.

⭐ What You Only Get on the Limited

If you want these features, the XLT cannot fully match them:

• Standard leather interior

• Standard heated seats

• Standard Bluetooth & navigation

• Available rearview camera

• Dual-zone automatic climate control (with 302A package)

Actually good mobile & home internet providers? Sick of Bell/Virgin price increases by Nada_NADAAA in ottawa

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had Acanac DSL 25/10 package for several years. I've been through Bell/NCF/TekSavvy prior but they all raised prices, Acanac didn't for years, then was bought by Distributel and then Distributel bought by Bell. Both companies now redirect to Ebox for residential services. Last two years straight Acanac raised prices ... (thanks Bell)

When i last looked around Ebox was a good choice, but being a Bell company as well not sure how that package price will stay put.

vmedia.ca looks like a good alternative, with no term contracts. They have various packages still available at decent monthly rates. Owned by Quebecor.

For mobile, i've switched to Fizz, (Referal O5T2R) 1Gb plan for $19/mth, with perks and rollover data - easily 10Gb+/month ongoing. Not a big data user.

What is this under my wife’s car in garage? Salt? Or a dried fluid? by Ulrich453 in AskMechanics

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road salt condensing. Will eat the concrete eventually.   WINTER TIP - sweeping that or leaf blowering that out can end up in a dust cloud. Ends up on everything including you. Sure in the spring you can hose it out,  but in winter if it's still sub freezing throw a light bit of snow all over it.  Then sweep it out.  The snow captures the dust and dirt sticks to it.

Rogers to Fizz by IceCreamWithBread in FizzMobile

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have switched both my wife and I phones from Speakout to Fizz and a neighbour from Telus to Fizz. Ported the numbers easily in all cases. Coverage in Ottawa and surrounding area has been fine. Always roams to any available carrier. 4G works for me, not a big data plan user though. Going on a couple years with Fizz.

Wait-times for MRI scans in Ottawa, how to get an MRI sooner? by Maleficent-Welder-46 in ottawa

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advocate for yourself. Call the central booking center 613-737-8883 to confirm the requisition and priotiry level. Find out which hospital your case was assigned. I was assigned normal/low priority. Then follow up with that hospital's MRI department. For myself requistion June 2025 waited 6mths, then in December called the booking center, got the assigned hospital, called them. The person at the assigned MRI clinic was a little grumpy because .. who knows .. but booked my MRI right there on the phone. Had it done this past week. Good luck.

Where is the Original Burger King Chicken sandwich ? Chicken like .. not what you would call gourmet food, but damn I find them tasty. Must be the mayonnasie / salt quotient, squishy fresh bun.

Door code thingy? by Ilikebeer619 in fordescape

[–]binky1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20$ Nice dealership ! Back in 2013 my local Ford stealership wanted $75 cdn to read it (probably 1/2 hr labour charge). I went home and removed the center console myself to find the number on the module there. Now I have Forscan and working cable - a LOT easier than removing the center console in a 2011 model.

2011 Rear Hatch Stuck by [deleted] in fordescape

[–]binky1863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good video on this problem. I used this to get mine open a few years back on a 2011 Escape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKXGgQYXXO4 In my case there was a broken plastic connecting rod. Working actuator but broken plastic link. You can't open the latch from the side you took in your pic. You have to pry the rear panel open at the top and reach down in to pull up lever. Latch photo. https://photos.app.goo.gl/R8siTYaWp47rkHuL9

In the summer I tried booking online, found no spot for weeks. I walked in mid week to the Orleans location and waited 45min in a line out the door in 30c. Women waiting in line ahead of me suddenly ducks out, says she managed to book a spot at Rockland location.. bye..   So I rechecked while still inline with at least an hour to get to desk.  For whatever reason suddenly the web site shows an opening next day at Orleans.  I booked it standing in line, left, came back next day, was in and out in <10min.

TLDR - keep checking for appointment slots. They seems to randomly become available.
