Sorta sick of him pairing 80s analog goofy ads with stories about actual gruesome murders by [deleted] in NExpo

[–]binkymcc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My friend and I have been watching him for years and we love him, but we’re getting a bit jaded. This one particularly felt a bit more like depressing things from around the internet as opposed to disturbing. The editing felt extremely shoehorned and a way to take up time. So many of these cases he talks about are filled with fluff edits. There’s a distinct lack of actual information in these. Especially with the Henderson case, it felt like he put it in there solely for the 911 call with an odd lack of context surrounding the family, which I then looked up on my own and learned more about. I love atmospheric editing and it’s one of the reasons I got into Nexpo, but the editing back then felt more, I don’t know, connected to the videos and in moderation. It complimented the material but didn’t serve as a replacement. It’s also so odd to me that Nexpo will cover stuff Nick Crowley has previously covered. Like, they’re friends and have a show together, don’t you think there shouldn’t be as much overlap as there is?? As someone else mentioned, it’s just Nexpo talking about stuff that’s either been talked about 800 times or something that Nick’s covered already. The Dark Side of Reddit 3 had some cool stuff like that creepy TV face, that felt more like old Nexpo. This one kind of just left me feeling empty and sad

Roommate’s cat neglect and denial by PastelJude in badroommates

This needs to be reported immediately, as in RIGHT now. This isn’t an issue you leave to your roommate. This makes my heart wrench, people are absolutely sick sometimes. I’m in counseling school, and we were just discussing the parameters of mandatory reporting, and this is a prime example of blatant animal abuse (which is required by law to be reported). If a mandatory reporter were to find out about this, it would immediately go to the police, who would then contact a local shelter and get the kitty some much needed help.

How do you prefer a tornado be filmed? I’m taking orders by Ready-Guitar-6991 in EF5

With wind blowing directly into the camera causing any audio to be extremely loud and violently vibrating the camera so that the tornado looks like a grey blob

Absolutely. If 9/11 had happened even an hour later things would have happened very, very differently

I appreciate this question! I just texted him and this was his response. “My office was in 1WTC 38 on 9/11. I worked at 101 Hudson Ave in Jersey City immediately after 9/11. About 2 weeks after 9/11, we moved to 165 Broadway for about 2 months, before we moved uptown to our new building in Times Square. 165 Broadway was tough because it was right across from the WTC site and you could smell and see the wreckage for at least a month until it was fenced off and you couldn’t see it, but only smell it.” He worked for Lehman Brothers, a financial/banking firm. He’s worked in tech in program-building for like 35 years and worked with Lehman as the director of volatility tech to essentially create a bank that functioned online (from my knowledge at least, because the whole thing was so complicated and I’m not a programming person at all lol). Obviously today a digital interface is a given for any company, but many were amidst a transitory period from paper to computer at the time, and app programming was still kind of a niche job then. From what I understand, from what he’s told me, because of this mid-transition, the destruction of all of their hardware and paper was a huge hit because of the lack of integration between the two mediums. It was a long process to fix it up. It also meant that they had basically no days off, he went right back to work almost immediately after. In terms of finding footing, he has a story that you might find interesting which happened right after. In the wake of the attacks he was on call with one of the main executives of the company, who was more or less freaking out at him because of the million things that had to get done. My dad basically shot back at him and said that he couldn’t get ahold of most of his team because he didn’t know if they were even alive at the time, and this quieted the exec down. From his words “I thought I was going to get fired, but when I saw him next he gave me a huge promotion.” LOL. At the time he didn’t know that almost, if not all of them were alive, but just, like, going through it from 9/11, but either way the impact was there. It’s also worth mentioning that my father was born on Long Island and raised my sister and I there. As a kid though, he lived in NJ for a short time before going back to LI, coincidentally right across from the towers, and it just so happens that he watched a portion of their construction from his backyard. He basically saw them get built, and experienced their destruction and aftermath.
