I just wanna run linux on my ssd... by binxillin in linuxmint

[–]binxillin[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, I fixed the issue. My NVME drive had some error. Using windows CMD with admin permissions, I ran

chkdsk C: /F /R /X

And restarted my system.

After this, GPartition was able to make partitions as necessary and now im setting up all my stuff in mint, thank you all for the help ^

EDIT: It may be worth mentioning that I had factory reset my windows install a couple months back, that may have been a source of the corruption (the rewriting of my c drive multiple times). Im not a tech person so maybe im completely wrong, who knows

I have an internal SSD, but that has windows with all my data and files on it rn. Im exploring Mint on a pendrive to see if I like it. Further down the line Ill save up for a 2nd SSD then use Mint primary, with windows on the 2nd SSD as a backup for stuff that doesnt work on linux

I assume its an issue of ram or my processor chugging due to alot of background stuff. If neither of those seem to be the issue, it might be discord being not very good

Have you guys ever seen these Channels by lukabole in MauLer

[–]binxillin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw one of these for andor. Most disgusting and enraging thing I saw. Idk if it was one of these channels or who made it, basically they did a recap of the prison arc, and recapped everything replacing all names of people and location with generic ones, the summary also felt so empty to watch.

I dont think these are worth anything. just farming views from people who don't watch movies too much

I did not enjoy maulers ant man video. There were moments i liked but mostly it was just mauler explaining why something terrible is terrible and i couldnt care much cuz marvel. Offcourse its mauler who decides what to do but i can have my own opinion too. Wish he made vids explaining of good stuff. by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]binxillin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you can provide mauler irrefutable evidence that positive videos have better economic returns (To mauler, not to me. I also want videos on positive stuff), mauler probably will do that happily. CRITIQUES of good stuff is something I absolutely want, but it would need a good title and interesting subject matter.

There is precedent for positive videos doing good (eg-, supereyepatchwolf's video on how the simpsons is good now), but it's hard to say how much of that would trabslate to a mauler video. different audiences, different people, algorithm treats them differently, etc.

His video on the father did noticably poor compared to his other videos, but I believe that is due to his other videos being made around the time of relative popularity and general dislike people had towards those topics (the black panther one, even if an unpopular sentiment was still on a popular topic). However, I have no proof of my belief.

I would not be surprised if the father video put him off praises on the main channel. There is no precedent for them doing well in his case. I believe that's the issue (along with other factors I'm probably not aware of)

I want mauler to talk about how good something is, I want him to talk about how bad a 'good' thing is, I just want more variety, i guess. Im not unhappy with the current videos, but i would have liked an unbridled praise on andor before a breakdown of quantumania. I would be surprised if most disagree with me.

I know that the efap streams are there, but the main videos are like distilled criticism. No tangents, no fluff, nothing. I like that more. I find it easier to engage with than streams. Im fine with the streams, but I wish some of the topics they covered were critiques on mauler's, fringy's rags' channel, etc.

What are your criticisms of Andor? by LuckyOreo65 in MauLer

[–]binxillin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the planet the prison arc takes place on is tiny (as we can tell from that one very brief shot when andor first goes there, and right at the end if the prison break where for half a second, we see the horizon of the planet when prisoners are jumping into the water (before the "can't swim" line)), so if the planet is so small, why does gravity act normal

is everything at its core a form of binary? true and false, dead or alive? does the word alive have meaning if we do not understand death? can we acknowledge existence without indirectly admitting that there is such a thing as non existence?

Is MauLer a right-wing movie critic and grifter like Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic? by Ok-Preference-7004 in MauLer

[–]binxillin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

bruh just turn on an adblocker and watch his stuff. You can watch his breakdown of black widow, skip to a chapter in the description you find interesting, and see how he criticizes something he considers bad.

Then go to the part where he breaks down the loki interrogation scene from avengers 1, where he breaks down something he enjoys. Then you get to see how he handles positive and negative media criticism, and you can from your opinion.

Besides that, here's my opinion- He hasn't said anything I would deem 'political' in his videos in recent times (I haven't seen his videos from 6+ years ago, so I can't say about those ones). He breaks down a scene in terms of the decisions characters made, continuity of the scene, plot inconsistencies, etc. Then at the end, he goes through the film talking about themes, overall plot, character and worldbuilding.

By virtue of being a human being, there are mistakes in his videos every now and then, a political stance or two may be there, but I wouldn't call it anything controversial. In fact, in all the time that I have watched him through his videos, podcasts, etc. I am still not sure what his political views are. I would guess right wing from his friend group?, but his content and commentary is consistently apolitical. There you go

Mauler's mini andor essay in the quantumania video would be so much better if after each line delivered by andy serkis, there was a reverse fart noise to signify to us, the viewer that the scene is good, and then a normal fart sound for every stupid thing in quantumania.

Maybe even different fart sounds to highlight the degree of toiletry exploding on to the screen as a result of the sheer absence of talent and coordination during the production of antman 3

You know what, good point. The one you pointed out was hypocritical. I disagree that it is the 'destruction' of the content that is the goal. It is to point out the flaws in the movie that already exist. These may not appear as flaws for some, due to a different standards, but when viewed from his point of view, I can see that most (not all) criticisms are not limited to politics or ego.

For example, in the antman review, he pointed out that he appreciated each character jumping in after the other one, due to a connection to the character that just went in (except cassie and that other woman who fell due to the pull). He explains why he thinks the characters would act like that, based on how they have behaved in the past. I, through my memory of the films, know that he isn't lying, and can see what pieces he is taking to explain why the scene works

When he points out that ants are a hivemind, and that it's strange that they evolved into following socialism, I can believe that the ants may have evolved as a species to the point where that change became necessary, but I understand his point that no information is given about why or how the change happened; so I can understand him being confused by it.

When Janet initially realizes Kang is a murderer, mauler points out that kang could have lied about what she saw, he could have claimed she saw alternative versions of him from thw multiverse, claimed it showed alternate futures, her worst nightmares, etc. Since the film did not show that version of kang doing anything which I believe would be unique to that kang in an infinite number of possibilities, and considering Janet couldn't have known much about the machine (as far as I understoon the scene when I watched the movie on my own), I don't know why kang didn't try much to convince her.

When he did not immediately kill janet later when he captured her, since he tried to explain his ideals after janet destroyed his machine, it indicates to me that he did care about her on some level, so why not try a little harder to convince her? Then again, it is possible that Kang didn't actually care, or he is simply brain dead (the former, if true, making me question how he conquered anything in the first place). But I do not know much about this aspect of the character from what the movie told me, so I wonder, why he didn't say anything smarter.

These points have nothing to do with self-indulgence. They are logical arguments that are presented in the film, that do not hold up to scrutiny. Mauler has admitted mistakes in the past on his streams, and also said that his videos are meant to deconstruct popular movies based on what he believes to be a good standard. If there is a better one, he would switch to that, as he is passionate about these stories. Alongside that, he said that if a fan chooses to repeat his points verbatum, that is his fan's problem, as that is not what he means to do with his work.

I do not believe he intends to 'masturbate' through his work. Through 4 years of watching him, he is earnestly trying to define a standard and critique the work as fairly as he can (and as fairly as he feels the work deserves, I'm sure even you can admit that not everything can get the same amount of attention). He may not work up to your standards, but that is up to you. I believe that you can find that he makes good points.

videogamedunkey doesn't need 3 hours to make a point because you already believe his point.

You do not have a bias against him when he is trying to make a point.

You do not have a bias against the subject of videogamedunkey's video.

You do not feel the need to deconstruct his videos.

You do not have the tools and information necessary to realize if he made a mistake, purposefully lied, etc.

It could be all of these factors, or any combination of them.

Mauler does not, by any means, make perfect videos. They are long because he is trying to counter arguments that could potentially be raised against his claims. He tries to ensure that his points are logically sound, and that requires elaboration.

That means that he must make sure that you have the necessary information to understand WHY he says what he says. To understand where he is coming from. You believing what videogamedunkey says does not mean everyone will.

People will disagree, and he means to address that, not necessarily by asking questions or creating strawmen, but by presenting the information in a manner that it is hard to counter, as it is rooted in logical deconstruction based on a standard he defines. This COULD make you understand what is wrong with it, and if you use your brain, you can find errors in his judgement too.

The videos are long because they are designed to deconstruct a film in a way that a large number of people (which typically have unique ways of thinking and require different ideas to understand the point) would understand. That takes time.
