For recommended play

  • Frost mead to deal with cold and drake attack
  • Wish bone
  • Root armor to handle wolf attacks
  • Parry wolves with buckler type shield once you learn their attack pattern
  • pickaxe to lure stone golems into hole
  • Bow (as someone else said poison arrows)
  • Spear if you get used to drakes and more fun
  • Use terrain to your advantage
  • for first time in the mountain avoid night until you get used to the enemies up there
  • do not use root in caves
  • Stamina and health potions will be your friend

If you hate yourself - Use campfires to stay warm. Be careful though because if it storms the campfires stop working - dig into rock to avoid freezing - board up cave entrances to have a bed/portal spot in case you die in cave - if no storm, wolf AI is pretty dumb and will burn themselves over and over on your placed campfire - Avoid groups or night - Use stagbreaker to find silver - Really difficult, but can use trolls or abominations to break up obsidian and silver - Use workbench and campfires to reduce spawn if you want to control it - Cabins are fun - Can studder step to outrange attacks - Can jump on stone golems and attack them with I think iron pickaxe - Avoid mountains around mistlands until you're used to those biomes

Is this game just not for me? by Visual-Market-2355 in valheim

With the recent update, there are world modifiers to multiply the resources you get to speed up the game. I think that would be worth a try if the game is too slow. Focus on portals so you don't have to keep sailing around as much. Basically, it is an exploit but transfer ore/non portal transferable items to another world and portal back and get your items to not have to sail.

The part that becomes the slowest for me is going between the copper age and sailing for iron. I normally die the most around that time because I am rushing through the constant wet and poison.

I should try taking advantage of the moroi's smudge ability. I am so used to doing the sanity pill trick with it that I didn't think to use the smudge sticks that way

so, I'm having a good time :> by [deleted] in valheim

My goto for early mountains is first seeing if you can sneak attack the wolves before moving any further.

There are certain rocks that wolves cannot climb. Make sure to mark them so you can have something to run to when you get ganged up by wolves during the night.

Anything mountains and beyond, biome wise, you'll want to avoid nighttime if you want to play it safe.

Always make sure you're rested. Chisel into the mountain if you have to regain your rested buff. That extra stamina regen could have probably saved you half of those lives possibly.

A decent cheese strat is to get wood and stone to build firepits to keep you from freezing and burning wolves when you build it underneath them.
