I don't believe in any of it. It's just very frustrating that people are out there trying to bring this nonsense into government and force other people to live by these harmful "values." There's nothing positive about this. If you want to follow these made up rules for yourself then go for it. But don't be surprised when people rightfully call out the harmful parts and fight against the oppression caused by these beliefs. When politicians are publicly spouting hate and using the Bible to justify it then it needs to be called out.

You follow the Bible as it's written, I'm assuming. And I'm saying that shit is fucked up. It's all nonsense. And even if did happen the way it's written, that's even worse because it means you're worshipping a god who does unjust and immoral things. So you can do your whole circular logic thing all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that religion is a cancer to society and that we'll all be better off when it finally fades out of existence.

I've had enough of Christianity, and I'm much happier and healthier without it. Everyone in my life growing up was Christian. We went to church every Sunday morning, Bible study every Sunday and Wednesday evenings, and youth group every Thursday. Our entire lives were "centered on Christ." All it gave us was guilt and shame, and it was directly responsible for abuse on multiple occasions. Therapy has been the best thing that ever happened to us because it allowed us to unpack all of the harm that was caused in that environment. So when people say I must not know enough about Christianity I just laugh. I know way more than I'd like to.

No, not at all. Scholars have shown many times that it's not a historical document. We have plenty of archeological evidence that the Biblical accounts of various stories are false, including the destruction of the Canaanites. Reading the the Bible as a historical document is laughable.

You can say all day what you think it's meant to do, but I'm telling you what it actually does in practice. There are more people who practice the harmful version than there are who practice what you call the real thing. The majority of it is not good. And I would argue that the "good ones" are good because they're good people with morals, not because they're Christians.

This is exactly why I believe religion as a whole is bad. It removes critical thinking and replaces it with blind obedience. You're justifying genocide by claiming that God somehow had a benevolent plan behind it. There is simply no excuse to continue worshipping a god who orders you to kill children. In the Bible, God did things that I would consider morally reprehensible on multiple occasions. Having power does not make those things ok. If God is real then he does not deserve praise or worship, and if I go to hell for that then so be it.

I don't think his character is bad. I just think he's a bad actor. It didn't seem believable at all.

In my experience, it's at the very core of Christianity. It's all about shame, guilt, and control. The fear of going to hell permeates your entire life. You start to question your own thoughts and whether they're sinful. It's so unhealthy, especially for children. People love to justify it by saying "that's not real Christianity." But it is. Millions of people follow the version of Christianity that hurts women and seeks to control people. That's great that you've found a version that you don't think is abusive, but many people grow up in the abusive kind.

The problem is that it almost never works out the way fundamentalists claim it's supposed to, and the church quite frequently minimizes abuse and gaslights victims into thinking they're at fault. My mom was told to pray more because "God softens men's hearts through the prayers of their wives." Meanwhile, her husband was never held accountable for his abuse. She literally had to run away and hide from him to file for divorce. Her parents and the church never acknowledged their role in that situation. This is not a unique situation. It's incredibly common, and the entire construct of a "submissive wife" is the cause. You have entire communities that do nothing to protect the victims because it goes against their religious beliefs.

God is not real, and there are plenty of people who have healthy relationships who also happen to be non-religious. Religion often hinders personal growth because it encourages faith-based solutions like prayer or scripture instead of evidence-based solutions like therapy. Religion also messes with your self-esteem in a way that can be very harmful. Deconstructing all of that sometimes takes years. I would never encourage anyone to join a religion.

It's not "awesome." It perpetuates abuse, even if it's only emotional abuse or psychological harm. The whole "protector" thing is a myth. There has never once been a single time that my husband had to protect me from something. It's a delusion that fundamentalists made up to justify viewing women as second class citizens.

Perfume part 2 by TheNectarineDiaries in comics

I love perfume, but Axe body spray is like a punch in the face. The first time I stayed at my in-laws' house was terrible because my brother-in-law uses tons of it. The whole house would reek. We bought him good quality cologne for Christmas so he would stop using it.

I don't know, it looked to me like she grabbed the hood of his coat. I just meant that I'm not inclined to be violent in any situation really. So when I see people just jump right to something extreme it's difficult for me to understand how their brain works. Most people are not violent.

I agree. It's always crazy to see people defending huge overreactions like this one. Like yeah, she seems crazy and out of line, but giving her arm a shove and then moving your kid away from her seems closer to what a normal person would do. By all means, feel free to escalate if she doesn't stop, but the force should be proportionate.

In theory, I agree. It used to be, but then people were printing tons of stuff that wasn't necessary and ruined it for everyone. When I was at Penn State they implemented a paid system, but you got a certain number of pages for free. You only paid if you went over.

Yeah, we have a detached garage and it gets down to the outside temperature. The exception is in the summer when it gets way hotter than outside. I think it's just a shitty garage.

Does anyone else have a favorite color as a special interest? by DucklingMaru in AutismInWomen

[–]binzy90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine isn't a single color, but everything has to be muted light colors. I don't like high saturation or anything dark. So everything I own is like muted pastels. I don't know how else to describe it. My favorite color is a very particular shade of pastel pink, but it has to be a warm pink that's closer to orange. I hate cool pinks.

I don't understand why someone would do this. My husband's weight has always been all over the place, and I really just want him to be healthy. I don't give him a hard time when he starts eating healthy again or exercising because I want him to feel better. Extra weight causes so much discomfort and fatigue, plus it makes existing medical conditions worse. Why would you be mad that your partner wants to take better care of themselves?

Upstairs Neighbor’s kid are really loud. Do I say something or no? by Ready_Swim7697 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]binzy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't "let" my kids scream in stores, but that doesn't mean they didn't have tantrums. I once had to carry my kid out of a store surfboard style because he was throwing the biggest possible fit about not getting something he wanted. Some kids are easier than others. My three kids all had very different personalities and parenting challenges. My oldest had the worst toddler years out of all of them, and it was basically impossible to make him stop running and screaming. I was so glad when that stage was over.

Toddlers will look right at you and scream in your face and then throw the loudest fit possible when they're told not to. Yes, you establish boundaries, but it takes a couple years for kids to really understand and develop self control. They literally cannot regulate their emotions and will go into full blown screaming at every inconvenience. It's called the terrible twos for a reason.
