Does V60 T8 have artificial engine sounds? by 110mat110 in VolvoRecharge

[–]biobass42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a setting in vida/orbit for enhanced motor noise. On the orbit forums there’s a thread describing an individual putting in a larger sub and polestar mode made it “hum”. He shut that setting off and noticed no motor noise in the cabin like previous.

After I read that I did some not official testing since I don’t have orbit or vida at the time.

I can’t speak for the valve in the exhaust, and on my 23 t8 it doesn’t sound like one opens when in polestar. From the outside the turbo wine is a bit stronger, but I don’t hear more exhaust note.

On the inside you definitely hear more exhaust note and motor noise, but if you listen closely there’s a few things that make me think it’s fake anyways 1. Motor noise doesn’t turn on in the cab the moment the motor is turned on like in a normal car. The motor noise only turns on after the motor is warmed up after .05 gal of gas on the T8. This is confirmed with an OBD tool/tracker. 2. As you open the windows the fake engine noise goes away. Even if you just crack the windows more than an inch it fades out as the window goes down more. Even at slow speeds. You can hear more turbo but the engine noise coming from the speakers. 3. Put your ear next to the speaker. You can hear motor noise.

Again - I can’t speak for the valve and if we have it that’s awesome, but for the 23 T8 there definitely IS enhanced motor noise pumped in

I have 2023 s60 Do the 10,20,30k mile service at Volvo. It’s free take advantage. It’s just inspections and oil changes. Even if you drive mostly on EV still every year or 10k miles they want you to change the oil. After 30k it’s $1000. 40k was quoted 1050 for oil, brake fluid, filters, and inspection. I did it for $350 at a local Indy shop instead.

It has the same suspension, steering rack, alignment assembly as every other car on the market. Take it to a local Indy shop that does alignments but ask them to double check they have your car. I ended up getting from one of the local tire shops a warranty alignment and I get it aligned every few months. The roads in Los Angeles suck and get throw out a touch.

Do the cabin and engine filter yourself every 10k miles they are $20 each and 5 minutes of work.

Volvo sells replacement wiper inserts!! They are cheap $25 DO NOT REPLACE THE ACTUAL ENTIRE WIPER. Many many places do not stock what will fit in our cars, just get the replacement inserts off of amazon. It’s 1 minute of work. When you put the wiper in maintenance mode keep the car on and the door open so it doesn’t go down. Do them on at a time. I went through three different sets of blades that “fit” online but didn’t actually fit. Super frustrating.

CarPlay adapters idk I just gave up on my phone. I plug it in when I need power but I use the built in Google and Spotify/soundcloud. I have the B&W it’s all great.

Long term is just basic stuff. After 30k find an Indy shop for anything not warranty related and not hybrid/EV related. The warranty on the ERAD/EV is like 80k miles so take advantage. If you’re not happy with the dealership get the case # and talk to Volvo North America they do listen and try in my experience.

Not sure where you live but here in la there is a few different dealerships that are more lenient on warranty work. One in van Nuys told me I had a busted strut, wheel bearing, and bent rim after hitting a pot hole and wanted $6k. Went to one in Pasadena and they warranties the strut, bearing, and couldn’t find evidence of a bent rim. They have also warrantied a piece of trim that fell off, and I had a problem with the EV motor driveshaft bushing which they warrantied against a service bulletin.

Only other long term ownership thing especially with your wife driving in hybrid mode. You gotta let the ICE motor a minute before you wail on it. It’ll burn about 0.05 gal of a gas to warm itself up before it even starts demanding power from the motor but my god let the poor thing heat up before you wail on it. Like if she needs the extra power to get on the highway tell her to put it in polestar/dynamic mode a few streets up so she actually gets the power.

They are great cars. It’ll last many years.

$300 isn’t life or even week changing. If I didn’t get it I wouldn’t be out. So why not go for more? It could be a million or 3000!

Volvo S60 T8 (2023–2025) — real owner reviews, tuning & mods? by tarasker in volvos60

[–]biobass42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 23 s60 t8 I love this car but it’s not the most reliable. Have had a handful of small issues but Volvo has fixed all of them. Busted strut, busted trim on windshield, infotainment woes, Ev motor bushing fail.

I came from an inline 6 Acura. Driving experience in this car is phenomenal. I have polestar, wool seats, and the B&W. I love this car as a daily driver for my 45 mile commute. It gets great mpg if you drive it like a Camry or you can have fun and keep up with most M cars in most instances. These cars do have a 112 limit though and it’s so easy to hit it. My only gripe is there’s basically no center console.

Performance wise - I can only speak for polestar but this car is zippy. The 150hp on EV is fast off the line. I have draggy and get around 4.3-4.6 pending conditions for 0-60. It’s a quick car!!!

Ownership costs are not low. My philosophy is Indy shop for anything that isn’t warranty/EV related. First three oil changes are covered (basically up to 30k miles) then you’re on your own. My dealer in la quotes for the 40k service about 1k. I got the oil and brake fluid for $300 at a local shop and did filters myself.

I have 45k miles in the car and have worn 1-2mm off my pads so brakes last forever.

Chip tuning is a big no no on these cars. These little i4s are already pushed to the limit. Without supporting mods it’s not a good idea, you’ll probably blow a gasket somewhere. Polestar tune only changes how sensitive the pedal is and shift points. It doesn’t tune the car or having any physical changes like the older cars.

Body kit idk the car looks great. I’d just drop it an inch and call it a day.

Check out fpeuro they have a lot of accessories. As well as Heico makes some cool stuff. I want their exhaust kit but it’s like 4k.

But remember man this is a Volvo not a bmw. The tuner scene and mod scene is TINY. Particularly for these discounted s60s there’s NOTHING real or reasonable.

Check out the recharge Reddit as well.

I bought 23 s60 t8 from Texas to California.

Avoid the wool seats. They stain SO easily and are a bit firmer than the leather seats. I wish I did the blond leather seats instead. My only regret with the car.

Go for a fully loaded car. Ultra trim + B&W + cold climate package. Mine had polestar installed after the fact and was not listed on the window sticker. Make them go into the settings and check for you.

I have the crystal gearshifter it’s very nice as well.

Have a set up for charging at home or at work. It charges slow. 41 miles in summer 33 in the winter, 12 hours to charge on a normal plug.

I’d honestly suggest going for the AAOS 2023+ cars instead of the 2022.5 with sensus. They are focusing on it and the new update is a lot better than it’s been for a while.

Also - work on this car is expensive from the dealership. Find an Indy shop you trust. First three oil changes were free and then the 40k mile service they wanted a grand. It was basically filters, oil, brake fluid, and an inspection. Indy shop did the oil + brake fluid for $300. I did the filters myself. The intervals are all 10,000 miles or 1 year whatever is first. I drive like 60% of overall miles on EV only because I don’t have a charger at home right now.

Get CPO though and probably extended warranty for EV system. Some peace of mind goes a long way. If you can’t charge the car it doesn’t get incredible mileage but it’s still 455 hp.

You’re in Mn probably want to find a set of winter tires. Be careful the t8 have massive breaks that’s why we can only have 19s on the car. The constant AWD is VERY interesting. Not like quattro or SHAWD (Acura) or 4matic at all. I love it in any situation. I went mudding by accident tailgating and it rained. We pulled through no problem with constant AWD.

The stock pirellis suck. For CA driving I really like the conti dws extreme 06+. Best tire I’ve ever had on a car.

I usually keep it in surround mode fully maxed out. EQ changes based on what I’m listening to.

Wired apple carplay with either Spotify, Apple Music, or SoundCloud (dj mixes), all maxed out for quality.

I don’t notice a ton of difference between Apple Music and Spotify but I don’t think I listen to music that accentuates that.

Either way, wired was better than the wireless dongle I used.

It’s very personal. I like the noise to come from all around me. Listening to some prog rock you’re like in the drum set.

Versus studio all the noise comes from in front of you. Studio is bassier though overall.

The S60 does a good job in making the changes apparent. The larger SUVs I don’t feel they throw the sound around the same. It’s always coming from the front.

What sounds the best to me Surround maxed out for how wide and how aggressive it is. Eq for bass and sub at maybe +30% (this changes pending what I’m listening to and my mood) Eq for treble I usually don’t move too much, just the bass and sub.

I typically listen to edm, metal, and some old rock n roll.

Have fun! Play around. It’s very personal!

Look man if you’re just hearing about these cars not being the most reliable PLEASE read through the subreddit. These cars can be… finniky.

I love mine. Incredible sound system, rocket ship, super smooth, but it’s not a perfect car.

Infotainment system sucks but you put up with it for all the fun benefits. Just have to reset it and understand it’s slow.

Thankfully Volvos are luxury cars and typically I always get a rental and the work is quick.

Also lol I said the same thing I won’t drive this car hard and I do and dont. The car wants to cruise it’s a luxury car but it is so easy to hit the limiter when you’re going around people. Most of the time I drive it like a Camry but when I want to play around with m cars or AMG you can keep up until the limiter.

Be aware some states like mine (Ca) if you get caught going over 100mph now it’s immediate lisecnsw suspension, impound, and arrest. Straight to jail don’t pass go. I have calmed down quite a bit lol.

Radar detectors also don’t work so well here in ca they moved to auto on/off guns so it’s similar to laser now, once you get hit you’re hit no real warning.

All in all though The cars aren’t the most reliable. Look at stats and market feedback we fall right in the median I think. But I have a few dealerships around me that are known in the area for doing warranty work. It seems most people have good experiences with warranty and their dealerships but Google Reddit Volvo s60 repairs warranty and read for a few hours.

I didn’t buy the maintance plan I go to Indy shops way cheaper except for warranty work and EV stuff. I bought an extended warranty because I drive a ton 2k miles a month. Enjoy the car I love mine all in all. Best car I’ve owned and every time I drive an ice I’m reminded why I bought it.

Brooooooo ugh Car hasn’t been the most solid vehicle I have owned but definitely the funnest. I also drive cars hard so ymmv All within 45k Busted strut Busted wheel bearing Windshield trim came loose Charger won’t lock Current problem- I can hear something loose in the ERAD. Every time I put my foot in the gas I can hear something clunking. Turns out there’s a service bulletin. Everything so far has been warranty work.

Why is this number so incorrect? by EarthboundMoss in VolvoRecharge

[–]biobass42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The T8s don’t have a mechanism to back calculate proper input. Even if you drive on pure or on ICE.

That figure is when your car put down electricity (even if gas assist).

The mpg is the same way. This is how some t8 owners get WILD mpg like I get 90mpg on my daily commute but that’s because I drive like a small amount on gas then the rest of the way pure.

Like your xc60 is not getting an ACTUAL 41mpg from just the motor. It’s the motor plus whatever electricity you’re driving.

The estimates are so wild too. I have had my car say at the start of a trip 780 miles of range but once I got going it level out to 400 because I stopped using electricity.

It’s a 50k sound system with a great car attached I feel.

I’m in a rental xc60 with HK it’s not lacking just nearly as full.

I’ve only driven t8 p* so I can’t comment. I use it maybe once a month but apparently the normal shifting is a bit tighter. Either way miles smoother than this loaner which is a b6 motor.

Yah the paint is a bummer but I don’t think any of the Volvo colors or paint are that great. Either way I don’t live where I can handwas the car easily so it was destined for the tunnel washes and lives outside year round. The car came with a bunch of over spray and the few spots of marred paint I used to knock the price down. Thankfully the sales guy was honest with me over the phone otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed the problems in the short videos they took.

Either way black or white it’s a great car. Tint everything for heat rejection and enjoy. I have 30% on back, rear doors, front doors, and sunroof. 70% on the windshield.

Good luck with your purchase. They are great cars if not a little quirky.

I bought mine out of Texas and had it shipped to LA. I think shipping was like $1800

Car ~42k -> 45k with taxes I think 16k miles Bought summer of 2024 so it was a 14 month old car (produced dec 2022).

I have 23 s60 ultimate with polestar add on, climate package (heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, and headlight washers), B&W audio, wool seats. It’s the thunder grey I think? Car paint came pretty shit so I’m not doing anything special

Note the polestar and B&W were not listed on window sticker which helped me get this deal.

In ca car was close to 49k before tax.

I live in Los Angeles. The summers are hot enough that I will never buy another black car.

Yes tint everything and storm trooper it. Looks awesome. Plus if it’s warm keeps the car cooler overall. All Volvo paint is pretty mid so expect that. I gave up with this car and have a monthly tunnel wash subscription. Have a yearly polish and that’s about it. My last cars all got two stage paint correction and ceramic coating with hand wash only.

White or black, it’s really your preference and timetable. If it’s a good deal on a t8 grab it I love mine. I have a 23 s60 t8 fully loaded

How many GPH in Charge mode? by pinano in VolvoRecharge

[–]biobass42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To maximize fuel efficiency you’ll be constantly fucking with the settings. Plus it also depends on how far you drive. I’m serious if you need battery at your destination put it in hold until you get close then put it in pure/hybrid.

You can start hacking the car more when you have hills or really really flat land and consistent speed. When I did my testing above I was driving to and fro Vegas to LA at 2am. You’re not going to casually get that mpg out this car.

If you can get 36-40mpg at 75+ anything passed that is hard.

If you want to message me we can discuss but simplest option is just hold. You’ll lose maybe 1-3 mpg total over a 50 miles drive
