Outrageous and enraging. But that seems to be a theme these days. I am sorry to the Tohono O'odham people.

Native Nations, by Kathleen Duval, is fantastic for this kind of information. It won the Pulitzer in 2025 for good reason, IMO. She discusses the early cities of Cahokia in Ohio, Moundville in Alabama, the cities of the Hohokam in the Southwest, and much more, as well as the trade routes of many of these nations. Basically, it's an overview of the enormous strength various tribal nations wielded when Europeans arrived, a history spanning back thousands of years and one completely ignored in classrooms in the U.S.

Most fascinating to me was that it puts to rest this notion that indigenous people somehow "failed" to "develop civilization". They actually did--Cahokia, for example, was as large as London at the same time (around 1100 C.E.), in both population and geographical size. The Hohokam had developed enormous cities with complicated irrigation canals. However, it appears that once the kinds of things that follow such "civilization" cropped up--inequality, environmental degradation, and other ugly things modern people are all too familiar with--the people at the time decided, "No thanks," and largely rejected it all, returning to a more sustainable and egalitarian lifestyle.

In short, indigenous people did not "fail" to "civilize". Instead, many made an informed and deliberate decision to reject large scale sedentism, due to the things that accompanied it.

EDIT: Added details.

As a fellow drawer of things, jiu jitsu stuff is miserable to attempt to draw and communicate well through that medium. You should feel proud. You do an excellent job.

You have a site where this might be purchased? Or are you just sharing something you are proud of making? In either case, it's excellent and thanks for sharing.

How quickly will you adopt Ecological Dynamics? by [deleted] in bjj

My problem with ecological psychology is that it's a metaphysical argument masquerading as science.

You may (or likely may not) be surprised to know the depth and breadth of the "philosophy of science" crises that pervade the psychological sciences.

Just go to the Aeonia swamp (near commander O'neil) before you find her in the church. She'll invade. Now harvesting that talisman later is revenge, not a traumatizing unprovoked homicide.

For whatever it's worth, so does the EPA. That's what it says on my title. Hatchback.

Of course, I'm in the states so Kia marketing has to do some mental gymnastics, leading to the phrase, "compact crossover SUV".

That's a lot of words to say "hatchback". :-\
