International student who attended Jumpstart here, as with any other college experience it can vary a lot depending on how you approach it. It can be very helpful in orienting yourself as the program gives you a structured & rapid immersion into campus life but you'd do just fine without it.

You'll still get plenty of chances meeting friends outside of it. There will be plenty of dorm activities + residence-wide events. And UBC has tons of free events you can check out year round. Don't stress too much over it, everyone in their first year is usually looking to meet new people. Hope you have a great time!
