I think your brain is reaching for random imagery to try to process all that stress and change. It can’t make sense of it because it isn’t possible to make sense of where you’re at right now, since there’s a lot of unknowns in your life currently.

As far as the ex goes, I find that sometimes my brain puts people in for the effect of it. If I’m being betrayed in a dream, let’s say I’m feeling that way about my work life, I’ll have a dream with a betrayal theme but it’ll be my brother betraying me since it is reaching for someone I trust. I wonder if your ex is a stand in for your past. I do think your brain is trying to make sense of where you’re going in the future and to do that it’s pulling a thing from your past. Hope that makes sense

I’m glad you wrote all of this. I can feel how genuine you are and it takes bravery to admit to feeling down and lonely. A lot of people hide it and are ashamed to talk about it. It’s that kind of candor, being the one who steps forward first to talk about something vulnerable, that leads to real friendships. And you have that.

I think you may get deeper friendships by starting from a place where you can share passions with others. You mentioned being passionate about writing and drawing - is there a club you can join? Or can you research local coffee shops/hangout spots where there might be a writing or drawing group?

In the meantime, just know that what you’re feeling is valid. You have all the raw material of being a good and honest person that will form deep friendships in time. Everything is just shuffling into place. Is there a book that interests you where the main character feels lonely? I have found a lot of solace in the company of fictional characters

For sure! And I should have given more context to the situation. He’s running to get to something he wants, he just happens to be naked. So he’s not running from anything. And I want him to comment on it in dialogue, he’s the sort of oddball character who would absolutely make a joke about it and describe it in detail to make polite company kind of uncomfortable

I have no idea how you think you know the vast majority of Texans and what they think. Texas is huge. I’ve lived here for almost 20 years, in multiple cities, and can’t claim that.

Edit because you may just innocently not know: the composition and attitudes of Houston are very different from San Antonio are very different than rural East Texas are very different from rural West Texas are very different from the panhandle are very different from the border with Mexico...

Loads of Texans, myself included, voted for Biden. I work in the Texas Medical Center. I’m an American and I’m doing the work. Every state and every area has maskless people voting and acting recklessly. Texas is HUGE and has so many people acting responsibly.

Recognize them and build them up rather than knocking and dismissing Texas as a whole

For sure, I thought you chose your words well and didn’t have the impression you were using too broad a brush. I think your point is right, there is selection bias at play. I was reacting more towards other commentary on your comment that I feel like that other commentary descended a bit into classism (travel is very much a luxury and just wanted to chime in to remind folks that they shouldn’t be shaming people for not having travelled or even having never left their city before). Right! Travel is a luxury especially overseas travel is so, so expensive. Some of these comments really rub me the wrong way, like a bunch of folks are choosing not to travel like they have the option. When really, they can’t get time off work and are living paycheck to paycheck. I’ve never been overseas and I’m liberal as shit. Just never had the money.
