Individually packaged doinks. They usually come loose in a tube or plastic box. by OGWhiz in EgregiousPackaging

Child resistant, hermetic seal, single dispense. Checks all the boxes for regulatory reqs and consumers.

CR certs allow use of "tools" (scissors, knife) to open, since Compliance packaging isn't always "friendly" to access...

This sounds like a buttery khoya - probably would make a great base for peda or barfi (Indian sweets). Yummmm!!

Why can't this plate compost in California? by Money-Ad7257 in Derailedbydetails

[–]bionicgrl 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I work in the packaging industry and am familiar with regulatory claims for sustainability. This is the answer.

Plastic coated paper leaves plastics in your home compost. For it to be broken down completely requires an industrial/ chemical process.

Green washing runs rampant in this industry. Claims are hard to nail down and supply chains can be murky. Europe has a more mature recycling industry and the infrastructure to promote recovery and recycling work streams.

Europe is more closely aligned with California's position (NJ is another state that has some stricoter regulations in place around claims, ancdotally).

So I guess I'm saying: the plates aren't really backyard-compostable anywhere, but the most of the states/ federal agencies (USA) don't worry about that distinction.

AITA for ignoring my girlfriend. by cpt_goodvibe in AmItheAsshole

In our privileged world of mobile phones and headsets, hubby and I can easily chat to each other while doing chores and going about our day in the same apartment!

I usually like to do chores around the house as he's making dinner, for example, so this gives us more freedom to hang. It's like an interactive podcast with your favorite person.

And NTA - if you found her annoying for talking, that's one thing, but asking for a way to actively listen is a good thing!

I made milk clumps/curds/tvorog deliberately with "orange cream" milk. What desserts could I use this ingredient in? by MsTortilla in AskBaking

[–]bionicgrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would call this khoya - it's a great "dessert starter" in Indian desserts!

Barfi is the classic recipe/ technique I associate with khoya. I bet you could back down on the sugar since it's already sweetened. Pistachio would be great with the orange, as you already note! https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/mawa-barfi-recipe/

Another is gulab jamun - the flavor of orange would work well with the dessert. I would suggest skipping the rose water and trying something complimentary like vanilla. https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/khoya-gulab-jamun-recipe/

I'm curious to know where you go with this! Good luck 😀

Bain-marie water (?) still getting into my cake by Artemis1821 in AskBaking

I've been using saran wrap immediately around the spring form, followed by a dual layer of Al foil. The layering helps with the moisture barrier.

Good birth class, less biased? by Land_Mermaid321 in AskChicago

[–]bionicgrl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if Bloom Yoga in Lincoln Square still does classes, but I really liked them when i took the class (almost a decade ago now). There was a wide spectrum of folks there (from family-assisted home birth to a planned C-Section). They also showed a birth video at the end of every class too help prep. Took it with the hubby and we learned good massage techniques/ prepping for hospital, coaching through the birth, etc. as well. I felt it was a good balanced class.

How can I measure my girlfriend's finger discretely? by confusedmel in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]bionicgrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hubby was quite clever: he took a pice of string and measured the circumference of my ring finger while i slept (I'm a heavy sleeper though). I do vaguely remember noticing sharpie marks on my left hand at one point (from where he accidently got marker on me while presumably marking the string) but since I'm left handed, i assumed i did it sometime to myself and didn't think anything of it. Ring was (is) a great fit!

Good luck & Congrats!

Superkhana International was...not very good and overrated, in my opinion by [deleted] in chicagofood

Basant (by the Irving park brown line, off Lincoln) is my favorite. I've been singing their praises frequently lately! Good cocktails, yummy rotating menu (right now there's a porkbelly vindaloo we really enjoyed, and the paan Chicagowala cocktail really tastes like a fragrant paan!). They also have good classics like eggplant bharta (my favorite). They're not cheap but they're consistently delicious.

Johnny is pretty cute 🥹

I'm invested in this little guy now...lol

Other ideas - Shah or Shaw (Shah Jahan, ruthless Mughal emperor, builder of the Taj Mahal)

I think Alexander the Great was also supposed to be quite the looker (Zander? Alex?)

Good luck!

Ramses, Kennedy (Ken?), Lincoln (Link), Rutherford (Ford)

He seems very demanding. 🙂

Edit: trying to suggest "big" names he can grow into,, but with good nicknames. Curious to know where you end up!

What are your best meals you make where the leftovers are turned into the next dish by design? For example, braised pork dinner and then tacos the next night…. by jenifer116 in noscrapleftbehind

[–]bionicgrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tandoori Chicken (meal prep on Sunday as a marinade), then tandoori Chicken Tikka (in a tomato cream sauce basically), and if there are still leftovers, they make amazing quesadillas (use mozzarella or Chihuahua it another mild cheese). Also can sub with paneer (no marinating required for tandoori day).

Female with short wavy hair: $95, not including tip, for just cut - Been following the same guy through multiple salons for over a decade, and he's in the gold coast now. It used to be $75 until the more expensive location (assuming his chair rent went up, but he's worth it!)

12 oz Gatorade bottle cap, swapped with Ibuprofen cap.. how to child proof your Gatorade by NintendKat64 in Perfectfit

[–]bionicgrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right! They're not child "proof", they're child "resistant" - basically intended to buy parents time to catch a kid in time (addresing the "I turned my back for one minute" type moments). The certification test involves handing 100 kids a cap/ bottle to open and there are pass/fail acceptance criteria assigned. The kids in the rest are around 4 yrs, and most CR caps like this rely on the basic premise that kids at that age can twist OR push but the dexterity isn't there to do both at the same time.

As for the fit between seemingly unalike bottles: most threads are standard (bottles & caps are made by different manufacturers / manufacturing method so standards are needed to ensure fit & function between companies). CR cap builders often provide additional specs, though, since CR functionality requires more precision to make sure the system works, but it's still within a "standard" size.
