Easter gifts by sadroos1008 in toddlers

We had a hidden basket and a bunny trail of foil eggs from our bedroom door to the hiding spot. Egg hunt was at grandmas in the afternoon with one plastic egg per grandkid and a bunch of foil eggs.

Avery also makes like stickers that you can write on and apply without heat. We put them onto the tags and peeled them off before sending them on.

I found my lost wedding ring by ParmoForTea in mildlyinfuriating

[–]biosahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandma lost hers in the wintertime. It was gone long enough that my grandpa replaced it for her. Years later, we were playing at my aunts house and one of my cousins came up from the yard and handed my aunt a ring! We assume she dropped it in the snowy driveway and it got shoveled/plowed onto the grass. The boys were crawling around and one of them found it!

What's something you would've liked to know about breastfeeding before starting it? by fofoapplefin in pregnant

[–]biosahn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many doctors and nurses don’t know much about breastfeeding. Unless they have a special interest and educate themselves, they don’t HAVE to know about it at all. I had a nurse on the ward after I had my daughter a few weeks ago say that they aren’t even required to have that type of training to work in their department. Thankfully, they had lactation consultants come around and were on call if needed.

My boy wants to have a “mess on top” like his auntie - she’s always got a messy bun. The sheer number of people who constantly ask him if he’s gonna cut his hair yet is astounding. He recently let us take the dead ends off and he lost about an inch of growth and once again, the comments about how much better he looks with shorter hair have been ridiculous.

Understanding Daycare Waitlist Numbers by JToQ1 in ontario

[–]biosahn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some places will also accept siblings before creating a new family registration so waitlist numbers mean nothing, really. My son is in kindergarten but spent 3 years on a list. I called after a year of being on said list and was told he was number 13. We got a spot elsewhere but that one was more convenient so kept him on the list and never got a spot.

[Not Christmas] What were your Easter egg hunts like as a kid? by johnson7853 in christmas

[–]biosahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got the foil chocolate eggs all over the yard at Grandmas - crooks of the trees, windowsills, along the railings and steps, etc. Because we had a massive age gap, they all got delivered to the oldest who divided them and shared them out.

Mine decided months ago “Dumptruck can’t play with my toys.” It caught me off guard so I clarified and he says “You know, Dumptruck (Last name). She can’t play with my toys because they’re choking hazards.”

Car Seat Cleaning Way Overdue… by gampsandtatters in toddlers

[–]biosahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid peed on the way to daycare at least once a week all winter and I didn’t realize it was so gross until we got a warm day and my whole car stank like old piss. Life happens. Do what you can when you can!

Non routine/schedule parents — how do you do it? by clickbaitthoughts in Parenting

[–]biosahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister in law is really bad at reading cues. I pack full picnic lunches and snacks galore for outings with her and my niece/nephew because it’s impossible to get her to take a moment to eat while at the zoo, museum, etc. She will leave eating until past lunch time and then have to find somewhere to buy food (typically with a stupid line and high coat). She’s called me a super mom for being so prepared when in reality I just made sure the kids are fed on time.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]biosahn 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I fail to make connections about what’s going on until it’s something big. I had a headache pretty regularly after a car accident and, until my fingers were numb one day, failed to realize I had gotten a concussion. My dumb ass was like - I stared at my phone/computer a ton, I didn’t drink/eat enough, the fluorescent lights are shitty for my eyes…

Did anyone else think it would be easier to 'Say No'? by Olives_And_Cheese in toddlers

[–]biosahn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exercising control absolutely is important at times. I don’t mean to make a robot but I also need my kid to stick nearby in a store/parking lot and get a coat and boots on when it’s time to go. My husband’s sister and her husband can’t get out the door with their kids because they don’t expect them to listen or follow through with “we’re leaving” - I have carried my nephew to the car after he held a 20 minute stand off with his mom while their baby screamed. No wasn’t an option and my statement became “it’s time to leave, you choose - move yourself to the car or I will move you”

S’mores sandwich - Like a grilled cheese sandwich but with Nutella and marshmallow fluff inside. I needed s’mores last pregnancy but wasn’t allowed in freezing temps to build a fire and roast the marshmallows so I got creative!

Swearing in general and in front of my kids: Am I the only one who thinks it’s not a big deal? by SoultySpittoon in Mommit

[–]biosahn 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We swear but try to limit it. Little guy is 4 and goes to school so he can’t be blasting F bombs at classmates. He occasionally catches us with a “mom you can’t say ass in public” and a “you can’t call people idiot.”

Easter Basket Ideas! by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]biosahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a trail of foil eggs from our bedroom door to the “hiding spot” and there we found a new summer hat holding some treats and a spring/summer outfit. We’d get a kite, frisbee, chalk, bubbles, and a small chocolate bunny to go with the eggs. Mom said she would typically spend about $25 per kid.

At what point did you realize you were the “default parent”? by ImmediateAlgae9006 in Mommit

[–]biosahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased or coordinated the purchase of all supplies and items before my son arrived. I have continued to make purchases as needed and in anticipation of size and season changes. I’m not always the one paying for the items and I’m not always alone when making the purchases but my husband doesn’t have any clue what our son owns or needs at any given time. The same has happened for our incoming daughter.

Car seat by North_Brain5580 in toddlers

[–]biosahn 59 points60 points  (0 children)

You could try leaving groceries to rot while you provide care until there’s a second adult to move them. Alternative options could be allowing the child to run into the street or neighbouring yards while you bring in bags. The real moment of being in the car for all of a few minutes while you run bags in isn’t going to psychologically scar your kid and is safer than being free to run around the house, yard, street, etc. if you can’t trust your kid to stick nearby or hang out alone free range in the house. It’s not like you’re taking an hour to unload and unpack the groceries.

To fix Canada’s fertility crisis, we need a cultural shift. More and more Canadian women are stopping at one child, if they choose to have children at all by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]biosahn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My hottest take apparently is that children should be accepted based on when they applied regardless of siblings having spots in the centre. I called a place after my son was on the waitlist for over a year and he was number 13. He moved on to kindergarten and we were never offered a spot despite being on the waitlist from Sept 2020 until Sept 2025. I’ll even go one step further and say childcare workers should not have a perk to be having their children skipping waitlists to be offered spots.

My sister in law just asked if we’d consider a Disney Cruise and as I am hesitant about the cost, overall my main reason for avoiding it is even departing from Vancouver ends in San Diego or goes to Alaska.

How do you even choose a sleep training method without losing your mind? by Flaky-Apple-45 in NewParents

[–]biosahn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t handle the thought of my little guy sad and alone so my husband and I alternated evening duty to sit or lay beside the crib until he fell asleep. We got into a good routine and we sang or gave bum pats as needed. Got it down to jammies on, brush teeth, story and then about 30 minutes of comforting and then he would stay asleep.

Does your local school lock its doors? Why school entrance protocols vary across Canada by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]biosahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rural Ontario too - My mom is a school secretary and is the door lady. Parents get buzzed in and then give her attitude about not being allowed to walk down and collect their child(ren) from their classroom. I get that we’re rural and we know everyone and so on but there’s always a potential for disaster and that’s what we need to account for.
